Byron Froese New contract with Lokomotiv Despite losing head coach Igor Nikitin to CSKA, Lokomotiv is keeping most of its core intact, and a further move in this direction is renewing ties with Byron Froese. The Canadian forward, at his first season outside of his native North America, scored 33 points for the Railwaymen in the regular season, adding another eight in 19 postseason appearance as he helped Lokomotiv rising the Gagarin Cup for the first time in its history. Froese?s new contract, a one-year deal, appears like a logical move for the Yaroslavl team, who now will be in front of the hardest of the tasks: repeat its success.

Kurashev a gamble who could pay off Kurashev was a restricted free agent who was not offered a qualifying offer by the Chicago Blackhawks last season. The forward did reasonably well two seasons ago when he was on a line with Connor Bedard in Bedard’s rookie season (2023-24). That season, Kurashev scored 54 points (18 G, 36 A). Trouble is, he was also a brutal minus-44.
