Blackhawks select forward Nathan Behm in third round, No. 66 overall

Following a pair of trades that sent both of their second-round picks out the door on Friday night, Blackhawks fans had to wait patiently for the team’s first selection on Day 2. When their turn finally came, Chicago used the pick to select Kamloops Blazers winger Nathan Behm in the third round.

The 18-year-old winger just wrapped up his second full season in the WHL, emerging as a key offensive contributor for the Blazers. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 202 pounds (as of the NHL Combine), the right-shot forward racked up 66 points (31 G, 35A) in 59 games, which more than doubled his point total from the previous season.

Behm, originally selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2022 WHL Draft, has grown into one of Kamloops’ most reliable scoring threats, combining size, skill, and an improving two-way game. Equally effective in transition and during set time in the offensive zone thanks to being a smooth skater, Behm’s ability to read the game and make smart decisions with the puck aligns well with the type of high-IQ, pace-driving forwards Chicago has prioritized in recent drafts. He’s a project player, like other players the Blackhawks have taken this draft and in the past, but he has a solid floor as a middle-six power forward with some top-six upside if he improves his pace and refines his defensive consistency and physicality.
