Buffalo Sabres Don’t Sleep on Bedkowski -
Big-checking defenseman will be a hit with fans The Buffalo Sabres ticked me off on Saturday, dealing away their 2nd round draft pick. Especially with several 1st round level players still on the board. Big, physical hockey players who play with an edge – that was the theme of Buffalo’s drafting this year. They had a primo opportunity to grab one of the best available. Alas, they made a deal with Pittsburgh instead that hopefully works out for the Sabres. Stay tuned on that one. The Blue and Gold found a rare gem (at least in these parts) in the 3rd round though. Meet David Bedkowski, a 6′ 4″ right shot defenseman who takes pride in his physical game. He loves to deliver bone rattling checks along the boards or a big open ice hit. Here is a quote from him on https://www.nhl.com/sabres “A big open-ice hit, it can change the course of a game, shift the momentum,” Bedkowski

Quick Analysis of every Sharks pick in the 2025 draft -
In recent Sharks terms, it was a relatively quiet draft day. During the General Manager Mike Grier era of the draft, there were trades to move up to grab the players that the Sharks had on the team’s board. However, this year, the Sharks seemed content to stand pat with the picks the team had. The Sharks didn’t make many moves, untempted, even though teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks were taking swings. Instead, the Sharks stood pat with the nine picks the team had and let the chips fall as they might. First round intrigue While the Sharks tried to offer some intrigue with the second overall pick, ultimately, the team went with what most pundits expected and chose Michael Misa, offering the Sharks a formidable one-two punch down the middle for many years to come. There has been quite a bit of chatter about who else could be traded as the Sabres try to get into ‘win now’ mode by addressing gaps in the roster with NHL-ready players versus stockpiling picks and prospects as they have done over the last few years. Defenseman Bowen Byram wants a bigger role but finds himself behind Rasmus Dahlin, and could be an enticing trading chip especially if a veteran gritty top six center is available. 2025 NHL Entry Draft: Preview, start time, TV schedule, and how to watch -
There hasn’t been a great deal of drama regarding which player is the top prospect this season. Matthew Schaefer began the season as a slight favourite, and despite his campaign being limited by illness and injury he showed enough to improve his stock while others who were regarded in similar esteem had their stumbles in 2024-25. At this point, it would be a surprise if the New York Islanders didn’t select him first overall. The process is going to be different this year as the NHL has gone to a decentralized format that no longer has all the teams’ representatives in the same place, but staying home to make their picks. It also means fewer prospects will be in attendance, so the typical routine of the prospects going to the stage to put on their new jerseys will have some breaks this season. K’Andre Miller Is A Trade Chip For The New York Rangers -
from Mollie Walker of the New York Post, Now that Drury opened up some cap space by trading Chris Kreider to Anaheim and decided to send this year’s 12th pick to Pittsburgh to complete the J.T. Miller trade — instead of deferring the transfer to 2026 — the rest of the Rangers’ offseason plans hinge on restricted free agent K’Andre Miller. It’s become increasingly clear the Rangers aren’t willing to commit to Miller long term. That classifies the 25-year-old defenseman as one of the organization’s top trade chips as it heads into a weekend that is sure to be filled with plenty of action around the NHL. Whether Drury can fetch a first-rounder for Miller is yet to be seen, as is whether the Rangers’ head honcho believes a Round 1 selection would be worth it in this draft class. Miller is eligible to receive an offer sheet when the free agency window opens Tuesday, which could become a factor in the Rangers’ timeline. It would presuma

NHL Mock Draft 2025: Montreal Canadiens select Carter Bear, Justin Carbonneau at 16th, 17th overall -
As has become tradition for Kent Hughes since taking over as the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, he approaches the day of the draft’s opening round with two first-round selections in hand. He’s typically used this as a chance to make a trade with that draft capital to help improve either the current roster (acquisitions of Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook) or his spot in the order (moving up to 21st to select Michael Hage last summer). While the GM would love to make another trade this year, especially with the team making the 2025 post-season and aiming to go even further next year, a combination of a rising cap to alleviate financial burdens on teams and several clubs now emerging from rebuilds may make that more difficult. He may end up using both selections he holds — back-to-back picks at 16th and 17th — to add more depth to an already solid prospect pool. As we do each year, we do a mock selection of the first-rounders the Hab
