Das Eishockeyteam aus Utah wird künftig unter neuem Namen in der National Hockey League auf Punktejagd gehen. Wie aus einer Aussendung des Klubs hervorgeht, wird aus dem "Utah Hockey Club" ab sofort "Utah Mammoth". Für die NHL-Franchise bricht damit "eine neue Eiszeit" an, wie der Klub auf Social Media verkündet. Der neue Name wurde in einem lange andauernden Findungsprozess ermittelt. In vier Umfragen, die 850.000 Stimmen einbrachten, wurde der neue Name ermittelt. Neben dem englischen Wort für Mammut und der Bezeichnung "Hockey Club" war zuletzt auch noch die Bezeichnung "Outlaws" (Gesetzlose) im Rennen. Der neue Name spiegelt nach Ansicht der Fans die Identität des Klubs am besten wider, weil während der letzten Eiszeit vor etwa 10.000 Jahren tatsächlich Mammuts in Utah lebten. In a twist from the norm, the NHL aired the pick live so that the viewing audience would know at the same time as the NHL. The audience watched as those ping pong balls bounced around. The Sharks looked good to win the first overall pick through two ping pong balls, but faltered with the third. When the fourth ball popped to the top, it was the New York Islanders that won the pick, jumping all the way from tenth place to first.
