Morning Skate: Relief -
The big news from the past week was the release of the Bruins’ 2025-2026 schedule, giving you a good idea of what days/nights you need to reserve for the foreseeable future. In keeping with Happy Gilmore’s announcement of the James Hagens pick, the B’s used Bill Burr to share some schedule highlights. I won’t post the entire schedule here, but the Bruins will open the season on October 8 in Washington, followed by the home opener a night later against the Blackhawks. Two things: It seems completely unnecessary to open the season with a back-to-back. I don’t have data to back this up, but I feel like the Bruins open just about every season playing either the Capitals or Blackhawks. Don’t fact check. Other highlights include the outdoor game against Tampa on February 1 and Brad Marchand returning to Boston with the Panthers on October 21. Elsewhere

The Ducks avoid arbitration with Lukas Dostal, the Canucks trade Dakota Joshua to the Maple Leafs, Yegor Chinakhov requests a trade from the Blue Jackets, and more in today’s NHL Morning Coffee Headlines. NHL.COM: The Anaheim Ducks avoided salary arbitration with Lukas Dostal, signing the 25-year-old goaltender to a five-year contract with an average annual value of $6.5 million. SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s a significant increase for Dostal, who earned an annual cap hit of $812,500 on his previous deal. It raised some eyebrows on social media, but he earned it by outplaying John Gibson for the starter’s job, resulting in the latter’s recent trade to the Detroit Red Wings. Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal (NHL Images). Dostal is a good goalie on a rebuilding team. Eric Stephens of The Athletic pointed out that his analytics are better than his traditional stats, with 14.3 goals saved above expectation. Which NHL teams improved the most this offseason? Ranking all 32 -
From most value added to least, here’s how each team has changed this summer. >Out: Emil Heineman, Logan Mailloux, David SavardIf you’re a Canadiens fan, it’s time to get excited. Only one team has improved more over the last summer externally and it’s likely that few teams will improve more internally, given the collective age of Montreal’s roster.AdvertisementThat doesn’t necessarily mean the Canadiens will improve over last year’s finish, but it does mean they are far less likely to regress with significantly more substance behind their results. The big get is Noah Dobson, who has the potential to be Lane Hutson’s Devon Toews. Dobson is a true top-pair defenseman, someone who adds tremendous upside to Montreal’s back end with his puck-moving ability. He’s a substantial get on his own, but the fact that it also means no more David Savard almost doubles the joy. Between the two, it’s a 16-goal swing. It’s a similar effect in giving up Emil Heineman for Dobson, and then trading for Zack

JP-sporten gör en djupdykning i SHL-lagens truppbyggen. 1. That’s where the prospect pyramid comes in, allowing us to split the Habs’ future pieces into tiers. Here’s how those tiers break down: Tier 1: Legitimate superstar talent.Tier 2: Top line/top pair for skaters, top-10 starter in the league for goalies.Tier 3: Top-six forward, #2/3 defenceman, or middle-of-the-pack starting goalie.Tier 4: Middle-six forward, second-pair defenceman, or bottom-10 starter in the league.Tier 5: Either surefire bottom-six/third pair p
