Sharks at Blackhawks game 54: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are looking for redemption tonight after putting up a subpar effort in Calgary just a few nights ago. The Sharks are in Chicago visiting the Blackhawks for stop number three on the road trip. It doesn’t get easier from here, so this really feels like a game that the Sharks need to win. This is the first of three meetings between the Sharks and the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks are probably out of the playoffs with a 21-25-9 record and just 51 points, the Blackhawks are seventh in the wild card race right now. That’s not out of the mix, but it’s also not close. That said, a good run can make all the difference. Chicago is 2-6-2 in its last ten games. The Blackhawks have lost the team’s last two in a row, most recently a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. That said, there are bright spots in Chicago’s season. Connor Bedard has had a bounce back season. He’s 33rd in the league in scoring with 52 points in 42 games. Tyler Be

Quick Bites: Sharks take losing streak into Olympic break -
The San Jose Sharks arrived in Denver for their final game before the Olympic break looking to set the recent past aside. After three losses in a row, each of which felt like a lost opportunity to keep pace in the playoff race, the team was in search of something positive to take into the pause. However, an always severe challenge against the league’s best, the Colorado Avalanche, stood in their way. The last time San Jose faced Colorado in Denver, the team had no answers in a 6-0 loss. This time around, the Sharks put up a much better fight, but still fell 4-2 to the Avalanche. There’s no shame in losing to this Avalanche team; Colorado seems destined to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup. While the Sharks have broken through the phase of being placated by “mor

GM #56: Montreal Canadiens @ Winnipeg Jets -
The Winnipeg Jets have returned home from a 4 game road trip that saw the franchise continue to pick up points on a regular basis, as they went 2-1-1 to grab 5 of the available 8 points. Yet, despite going 7-3-3 since January 9th (getting 17 of the available 26 pts), the True Northers have only managed to close the gap on the Western Conference’s last wildcard spot by 2 points (were down 11 pts, but it is now only 9). At that pace, the Jets would need 65 more games in the regular season to take the smallest lead for that last post-season position. Unfortunately, there are only 27 contests left…. When it comes to Winnipeg’s remaining schedule, the conclusion to the regular season is pretty much split evenly between expected playoff and non-playoff opposition. From now on, the Jets will play 13 contests versus the NHL’s top 15 clubs and 14 against the league’s bottom 17 (minus WPG). That will probably allow our hockey

Blackhawks Bits: Rinzel, Korchinski called up to Chicago; Kaiser placed on injured reserve -
The Chicago Blackhawks called up defensemen Sam Rinzel and Kevin Korchinski on Wednesday morning. The move corresponds with the placement of defenseman Wyatt Kaiser on injured reserve. Blackhawks have called up Sam Rinzel and Kevin Korchinski and placed Wyatt Kaiser on IR.— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) February 18, 2026 Wyatt Kaiser was injured in the Blackhawks’ 4-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Feb. 4, their final game before the Olympic break. With Kaiser on injured reserve, that leaves a hole in the Hawks’ blueline. Even though his 5v5 underlying numbers are ugly (45.54 percent Corsi and a 42.87 percent expected goals share), Kaiser was partnered with Artyom Levshunov and provided steady defense despite his partner’s chaotic tendencies. Sam Rinzel was demoted to the

GM #54: Winnipeg Jets @ Florida Panthers -
The Winnipeg Jets have 29 games left to play in the regular season….so this nightmare of a season is far from over at this point. Fortunately us fans will get a little break from having to watch our hockey team struggle, as the Olympics will shut down the NHL for three weeks. Just matches versus the Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, & Montreal Canadiens to go before then. Once the league gets underway again, there will only be 10 days until the trade deadline is upon us, so GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will have to make the decision on whether the True North franchise will sell off assets in an attempt to set the Jets up for a better season next year. Entering Saturday’s action, Winnipeg is tied for the 30th in team points….though if you go by winning percentage like Tankathon uses in their mock lottery simulations, then the Jets are sitting in 28th (5th best odds). That would give them the following odds in

GM #55: Winnipeg Jets @ Dallas Stars -
The Winnipeg Jets have gone 2-1-0 on their road trip so far and will be looking to finish the trek on a positive note against their division rivals, the Dallas Stars. Both Central Division franchises are fighting for positioning in the NHL’s standings, but find themselves in quite different situations. The Texans are having another good season, but the dominance of the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild’s play post-Quinn Hughes acquisition have the Stars scrapping for 2nd place & home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. While the True Northers have a tough long road ahead if they want to work their way back into post-season contention, needing to gain 9 points on the Los Angeles Kings & Utah Mammoth just to get into a 3-way tie for the final wildcard spot. With 51 points through 53 games, Winnipeg holds onto the 27th worst record in the NHL, giving them the following odds in the upcoming lottery (via Ta

GM #51: Detroit Red Wings @ Winnipeg Jets -
With the 1 point the Winnipeg Jets picked up against Florida, the team had moved 6 points back from the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference. Yet the NHL’s action on Friday night saw quite a few of the other franchises in the race pick up victories, so they will enter today’s contest versus the Detroit Red Wings a full 4 games back (8 pts) of playoff contention. The True Northers are currently sitting with the 4th worst record in the league based on points earned, but rise to 5th when you go by points percentage, which happens to be the method our friends at Tankathon uses for their draft odds & mock lottery mode. Therefore, Winnipeg currently has an 8.5% shot at 1st overall, 8.6% at 2nd, a measly 0.3% shot at 3rd, no chance at 4th, 24.5% odds at 5th, the highest chance at ending up in 6th (44%), and the farthest they could drop is 7th (14.2%). Well, after the Winnipeg Jets dropped a 2-0 contest to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, they have remained with the 2nd best odds for the upcoming 1st overall selection in June (a 13.5% shot at 1st overall, a 14.4% chance at the 2nd pick, odds of 30.7% for the 3rd selection, and 41.7% of the time will end up in 4th). Once again I simulated the lottery via Tankathon and here is who got the top 5 picks this time: Vancouver Canucks (25.5% odds) Chicago Blackhawks (9.5% odds) Winnipeg Jets (30.7% odds) St. Louis Blues (39.7% odds) Calgary Flames (24.5% odds) This time the top of the draft played out much closer to the actual standings. GM #53: Winnipeg Jets @ Tampa Bay Lightning -
The Winnipeg Jets began their road trip with a win in New Jersey, but the competition will get more difficult in the second stop when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning. The True North victory didn’t result in our club gaining any ground in the wildcard race, as the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, & Seattle Kraken all won on Tuesday too. Therefore the Jets were in the 4th worst slot in the NHL team points percentage until the New York Rangers dropped another contest last night, leaving Winnipeg with the 28th position’s lottery odds before the action gets underway on Thursday. According to Tankathon, the would give our team the following odds if the lottery draw took place this morning: 1st: 8.8% / 2nd: 8.9% / 3rd: 0.3% / 4th: 0% / 5th: 26.2% / 6th:

Examining the Blackhawks’ recent power-play struggles -
The Chicago Blackhawks have one power play goal in their last 12 games. They had 33 opportunities on the man advantage during that time and were only been able to capitalize one time. Their power play currently ranks 20th overall with a 19.1 percent conversion rate. Before Connor Bedard was injured on Dec. 12, 31 games into the season, it was ranked 10th in the league at 22.2 percent. So, what happened? Power Play Numbers Well, reality for one. According to Natural Stat Trick, the Blackhawks rank dead last in expected goals share on the power play (86.13 percent). When their power play was ranked 10th in the NHL, their expected goals rate ranked 32nd at 82.51 percent. In those same 31 games, they were shooting at 20 percent — fourth in the league. That’s since dropped to 15.98 percent, which ranks 11th. The Hawks currently rank 19th overall in the rate of goals scored on the man advantage at 7.1 per 60 minutes. Before t

GM #48: Winnipeg Jets @ Chicago Blackhawks -
The Winnipeg Jets let a 5 game winning streak slip through their hands on Saturday when they let the Toronto Maple Leafs storm back from a 2 goal deficit to snag an overtime victory. That has unfortunately become a common theme for the True North franchise in the NHL’s 2025-26 campaign, leading to our hockey team sitting in the 2nd last place in the league. As a result of that, some of the Jets’ fanbase have started to turn an eye to the upcoming draft with the hope that Winnipeg can select a game changing player to uplift the future of the franchise. With tempting prospects like Gavin McKenna & Ivar Stenberg gracing the top of most mock drafts….who could blame them? So, with those people in mind, I have decided to add a new section to our preview that will feature an ongoing look at the odds GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will have the opportunity to draft someone in the top 5.
