EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett Silvertips have signed goaltender Bennett Byers to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Byers, an '08-born Calgary, AB native, appeared in 19 games for CDA 18U Prep last season, posting a 7-11-0 record with a .928 save percentage and a 3.10 goals-against average. The 6-foot-1, 162-pound netminder appeared in two Preseason games this fall, stopping 18 of 20 in 31 minutes of work against the Portland Winterhawks and all 36 in two periods of a combined shutout against the Seattle Thunderbirds. "Our scouting staff did a great job identifying Bennett early last season," commented general manager Mike Fraser. "We've been impressed with his progression ever since. He had a very good training camp with us and he has earned this opportunity. We're happy to have him officially become a Silvertip." Bennett Byers is guaranteed a WHL Scholarship for every year he plays in the WHL by signing a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades concluded the 2026 Western Hockey League (WHL) preseason with back-to-back nail-biters against the Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats over the weekend. Saskatoon fell 5-4 in overtime on Friday on the road the the Art Hauser Centre against Prince Albert. Trailing 5-1 more than halfway through Saturday's tilt against Regina at SaskTel Centre, the Blades clawed back to tie the game 6-6 and force an extra frame. Regina won the game 7-6 with 59 seconds remaining in overtime. A big part of the near comeback was a five-point performance from 19-year-old winger Kazden Mathies. The third-year Blade scored a hat-trick and added two assists to finish the preseason with six goals and four assists in three games.
