Former Saskatoon Blades goaltender Evan Gardner earned his first career pro hockey victory on Sunday in a 5-4 win with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Cleveland Monsters. The 20-year-old netminder made 29 saves against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Odelein played 16 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. Odelein’s professional career began in 1986, when the Canadiens selected him with the 141st overall pick (then in the seventh round) from the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors. He didn’t debut with Montreal until the 1989-90 season, though he spent much of the year with the AHL’s Sherbrooke Canadiens.…

Byram Will Not Play in Buffalo Return Unfortunately, there is only one “revenge game” tonight. Former defenseman Bowen Byram will not play for Chicago tonight. Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill said Byram is tending to a family matter. That means Sabres fans will have to wait for Byram’s first game back at KeyBank Center since Buffalo traded him to Chicago this summer. Jordan Greenway is still expected to be in Chicago’s lineup and will face the Sabres for the first time since the trade. Byram’s absence forces Chicago to reshuffle its defense. Kevin Korchinski and Ethan Del Mastro will both make their season debuts after sitting out the Blackhawks’ first two games. Byram didn’t have the best first game, but I’m sure it will improve. The Chicago Blackhawks look to salvage something from their season-opening road trip when they visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. After what happened on Thursday night in Utah, something is setting the bar pretty low. The Sabres also aren’t off to a great start, either, having lost 6-3 on the road to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, although there were at least some positives for Buffalo after a terrible first period. Twice the Sabres cut the deficit to one in the second period but they never found the equalizer and Columbus eventually put the game away with two goals in the third. The Sabres will be looking to right the ship in their second game, especially since it’ll be their home opener (yes, the Blackhawks will be the opponent in yet another team’s first home game — gross).
