It took a clutch powerplay goal from Memorial Cup champion Nathan MacKinnon with 36 seconds left to send the team to the gold medal game. Canada has now pulled off comeback wins in two consecutive matchups with Friday's victory and Wednesday's 4-3 overtime triumph against Czechia. On a very chilly Thursday in Manitoba, the defending President’s Trophy winners will be hosting the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Yet the NHL’s 2025-26 campaign has looked much different for the two franchises.
