Illegal Curve Hockey Show -- March 28, 2026 -
The Jets split their two games at home defeating the Golden Knights before losing to the Avalanche. They'll head to Denver to conclude their home-and-home set with the Avs which kicks off four games on the road for Winnipeg which will basically determine if they can make a playoff push or not. Although even that may be generous as they have a number of teams they'll have to leapfrog. We will start off your Saturday with two hours of hockey talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show. Friday Morning Hockey Thoughts -
from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet,- Tuesday, led by intrepid Sportsnet Features producer Jeremy McElhanney, we drove to Buffalo. The Sabres are playoff-bound, so we taped a few pieces. The best thing about Buffalo right now is you feel the energy. Reporters covering practice were excited. It’s an awesome fan base, extremely deserving of late-April hockey. Josh Norris said that, during the first post-Olympic home game, he and Tage Thompson were next to each other on the bench. The crowd was so loud they couldn’t have a conversation. They started laughing, marvelling at the enthusiasm.- For much of this season, the Jets felt this year was a blip — not a true indication of who they are, especially due to Connor Hellebuyck’s early-season injury. But there has to be disappointment post-Olympics they got within striking distance of a playoff position and haven’t made a better push.- It’s now or never for the Kings. The San Jose Sharks are hoping to snap a five-game losing streak today with a visit to the St. Louis Blues. This is the second of three meetings between the two teams. The Sharks lost the last bout, a 3-2 loss in overtime on March 6 in San Jose. They’ll play once more in San Jose on March 30. The Blues are seventh in the Central Division, but have been doing better over the last week and a half than the Sharks. The team is 3-1-1 in its last five games and just a point behind San Jose in the standings. St. Louis will be without its top scorer, Robert Thomas, who is considered day-to-day. He has 46 points this season. Jordan Kyrou leads the Blues with 17 goals, though there are three different players with 16 goals apiece — Thomas, Pavel Buchnevich and Jimmy Snuggerud. Joel Hofer and Jordan Binnington have split time in the net this season. Hofer has the better record, 18-11-5 with a .910 save percentage. Binnington is 11-19-6 with a .872

Sharks Playoff/Lottery Hopes March 25, 2026 -
The San Jose Sharks are swimming in some uncharted waters. Not only is the team still a playoff contender, though its chances are dwindling dramatically, but the Sharks are also very much a lottery contender, putting the team in a very interesting position heading into the final few weeks of the season. As Sharks fans, that means there are two races to watch this time around. The race for the playoffs and the race to see who will have the best odds of picking first overall in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. Playoff Race Update It was a busy night for the contenders. As we know, the Nashville Predators continued to show a veteran strength, winning the team’s fifth straight game 6-3 over the Sharks. The Predators also gained ground on the Utah Mammoth, the current holders of the first wild card spot. The Mammoth lost in regulation to the Edmonton Oilers 5-2. And around the league, no one did the Sharks any favors. The Florida Panthers allowed the

Sharks at Predators game 69: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are back on the road and hopefully able to get back in the win column today. San Jose pays a visit to the Nashville Predators this afternoon. It’s the key matchup on this three game road trip with the biggest playoff implications. A win today would be a four point swing in the playoff race, since Nashville has caught up to the Sharks and even jumped into the second wildcard spot. If San Jose wants to stick in this playoff race, a win today is essential. The Sharks get some key players back today. It looks like Igor Chernyshov is ready to play after taking a tough hit on the last road trip. Yaroslav Askarov won’t get the start today, but he might be on the bench in a backup role. Ty Dellandrea is on this road trip, though whether he’ll play or just be along for the vibes is yet to be seen. The Predators have been on a roll since Dec. 8, when the team was 32nd in the NHL. Most recently, the team has won four in a row and just beat the Chicago B

Quick Bites: Sloppy First Period Hurts Sharks Playoff Chances -
Pregame: The Sharks started their 3-game road trip in Nashville tonight in front of a sold-out Nashville crowd. They needed to start this road trip with a win by playing urgently and confidently (spoiler alert: they did NOT). The Sharks went into tonight on a 4-game losing streak, while the Predators were on a 4-game winning streak. With the Sharks chasing the Preds for the second wild card spot in the West, it was imperative that they put their best food forward in what was the biggest game of the season so far.  First Period The game started quickly, but not in the way the sharks were hoping for. The Predators struck early after Dickinson fanned on a breakout pass that led directly to a 2-on-1 goal. There was hope though, as the 4th line played a gritty shift that saw all 3 forwards crashing the net in front of Saros and Gaudette scoring off a Mukhamadullin shot from the point.

The Lottery Race: Where Will the Jets End Up? -
After I clocked out for the week from my full time gig, I decided to spend a bit of time looking to see what the likelihood is the Winnipeg Jets will use their final 14 remaining games to move up or down in the standings. The recent losses to the Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins have made a playoff bid even more unlikely, yet the True Northers are still only 5 points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot. However, with three more clubs between Winnipeg and a playoff berth, there are many other contenders for the 8th spot. I will dive more into the chances for the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, or San Jose Sharks ousting the Kings for the post-season later, but lets just say that Los Angeles has by far the easiest schedule left to play…so they have a HUGE advantage. Before I go on with what I discovered, here is how the bottom of National Hockey League’s standings looked before action got unde
arcticicehockey.com

GM #66: St. Louis Blues @ Winnipeg Jets -
With the surprising win on Saturday over the league leading Colorado Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets have managed to pull within 6 points of the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot. That spot is currently being held by the San Jose Sharks, who have played 1 less game than the True Northers, and our club still needs to pass 4 other franchises in standings before they could grab that last post-season berth. So there is a lot of work to be done with only 17 more contests left in the regular season. After effectively stifling the high powered Avs’ offense for large chunks of yesterday’s contest, Winnipeg will have another difficult test this afternoon when the streaking St. Louis Blues visit. The Central Division team has been excellent since the Olympic break concluded (7-1-1), yet they remain near the bottom of the NHL standings. Coming into today’s action, both the Jets & Blues are tied for the league’s 4th worst reco
arcticicehockey.com

GM #64: New York Rangers @ Winnipeg Jets -
Since both the Winnipeg Jets & Seattle Kraken lost on Tuesday night, our team remains 5 points back of the NHL’s Western Conference’s final wildcard spot…though the Los Angeles Kings have now joined the Kraken at 67 points, while the San Jose Sharks & Nashville Predators are just a single point back of that. So while the True Northers have closed the gap to a potential playoff berth…..they have yet to pass any of the clubs in their way. The Jets’ points streak came to an abrupt end, with a horrible performance against the Anaheim Ducks, so the coaching staff will be looking for a much better effort tonight. In the middle of a long homestand, the Canada Life Centre will host the visiting New York Rangers on Thursday evening, setting up a clash between two of the league’s worst franchises. Winnipeg (26-27-10) will be entering action on a 1 game losing streak and holding onto the 27th best record in the NHL (

GM #70: Winnipeg Jets @ New York Rangers -
Another very early game on Sunday has led to an abbreviated preview yet again….. WPG Jets @ NY Rangers Start Time: 11 am Central – Madison Square Garden Winnipeg (28-29-12) is in 27th place in the NHL with 68 points on the season, scoring 196 Goals For (tied for 24th) and allowing 217 Goals Against (tied for 19th). Mark Scheifele leads the Jets with 31 goals, 52 assists, and 83 points. Kyle Connor is tied for the goal scoring lead as well, while Gabriel Vilardi is 5 back with 26 goals. New York (28-33-8) has the 29th best record in the league with 64 points, scoring 196 Goals For (tied for 24th) and allowing 221 Goals Against (tied for 22nd). Mika Zibanejad leads the Rangers with 29 goals, 37 assists, and 66 points this year.
arcticicehockey.com

GM #71: Vegas Golden Knights @ Winnipeg Jets -
Up until now, the Jets have stubbornly remained in the wildcard fight, routinely picking up at least one point (only outright lost 4 of their past 16 contests). Despite Winnipeg often adding points to their year total, they actually have only managed to move from the 5th worst record to the 7th. However, since there are 5 teams with 2 or less points ahead of them in the standings….our hockey team could significant diminish the value of their upcoming 1st round draft pick over the remainder of the schedule. Yet Tuesday begins a tough stretch for the Winnipeg Jets, as they will have four games against clubs that have historically caused the True Northers problems…..the Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars, and today’s opposition, the Vegas Golden Knights. With only the easier Chicago Blackhawks in the next 5 contests, there is a possibility that the Jets could walk away with only 2-3 out of 10 potential points and stall their slow crawl up the st

GM #67: Nashville Predators @ Winnipeg Jets -
Too busy today to complete a full Winnipeg Jets’ preview for tonight’s game, so here is an abbreviated version… NSH Predators @ WPG Jets Start Time: 7 pm Central – Canada Life Centre Winnipeg (28-28-10) is in 27th place in the NHL with 66 points on the season, scoring 188 Goals For (26th) and allowing 202 Goals Against (11th). GM #65: Colorado Avalanche @ Winnipeg Jets -
The National Hockey League had a light schedule for Friday, with only two games on the books…yet both outcomes had an impact on our franchise. With the St. Louis Blues’ overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets fell from 27th to 28th in the standings and the Los Angeles Kings victory over the New York Islanders extended the gap to the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot to 7 points. So the True Northers fell back on a night they weren’t even playing…….and now they have to face the league leading Colorado Avalanche to try to restore their post-season hopes. The Avs have been the cream of the NHL this season, amassing a whopping 97 points and are pace for a total of 124 for the full campaign, which is 8 more than the President Trophy winning Jets had last year. The two franchises could not be more different this season…. Winnipeg (26-28-10) will be entering the action on a 2 game losing ski

Winnipeg Jets Sign Lucas Wahlin -
**photo above via the site of the University of St. Thomas – TommieSports.com and taken by Nick Wosika** The True North organization dipped into the undrafted free agent pool resulting from the conclusion of the NCAA hockey season (at least for the non-playoff teams). This time GM Kevin Cheveldayoff inked a 24 yr forward from the University of St. Thomas named Lucas Wahlin. The Minnesota-born winger signed a one year contract with the Winnipeg Jets, starting in the 2026-27 NHL season, but the right handed forward has agreed to a Amateur Try Out with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose for the remainder of their campaign. Like many other undrafted free agents the Jets have signed before him, Wahlin was the captain of his NCAA hockey squad and has scored at a point per game pace his last two seasons. Here is his career stats, via Elite Prospects:

Letters, March 25 -
My wife and I attended the Ottawa-Montreal PWHL game on Sunday, and there is truly reason to believe that this brand of hockey would likely be supported well by fans of all stripes, including older purists who love the game for its own sake. The atmosphere at the game approached the frenzy of a “white out,” and fans cheered every hit, two-on-one breakout, and each goal with aplomb.
