(AP) — Igor Chernyshov scored his second goal of the game with 1:42 remaining in overtime and the San Jose Sharks beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-4 on Saturday night for their second straight win to open the season.The Kings rallied from two goals down in the third to tie the game and controlled play for most of the overtime. But San Jose came out on top when Chernyshov beat Anton Forsberg on a one-timer off a pass from Macklin Celebrini, who has five assists in two games.After not getting a win in the first five games the past four seasons, the Sharks have back-to-back overtime wins to begin this season after beating Florida 4-3 in the opener Thursday night.Tyler Toffoli, Kiefer Sherwood and Nolan Allan also scored for San Jose. Yaroslav Askarov made 31 saves.Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield, Erik Haula and Anteri Panarin scored for Los Angeles but it wasn’t enough to keep the Kings from falling to 0-2 on the season. Forsberg made 20 saves.

Just two games into the San Jose Sharks' new season, the long familiar "Beat LA" chants were being belted out at the SAP Center as they hosted the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night. The extracurricular activities didn't take long to begin, as Macklin Celebrini went after Adrian Kempe after the first whistle when the Kings forward ran into the net, narrowly missing a collision with Sharks netminder Yaroslav Askarov. The Sharks got the first power play when the Kings' captain, Drew Doughty sat for cross-checking. The Sharks' power play started off strong, but were unable to convert before the veteran defenseman exited the penalty box. The Sharks had a couple of scares around the middle of the period, as Igor Chernyshov got some attention from training staff after a hard pass from Darnell Nurse caught him in the skate, leading to some clear pain. Seattle Thunderbirds alumnus Tyrel Bauer made his NHL debut with the Winnipeg Jets last night when they hosted the Boston Bruins. Bauer played 5:58 and racked up nine penalty minutes in a 4-3 overtime loss to Boston. He was one of two Jets to make their NHL debut, alongside 2026 first-round pick Viggo Bjorck. Hailing from Cochrane, AB, Bauer played with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2017-2022 where he scored 12 goals to go along with 36 assists in 181 regular season WHL games. He added six assists in 29 playoff games, that included a WHL championship appearance in 2022, where the Thunderbirds fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings in six games. Bauer was an assistant captain in 2019-20, before spending two seasons as their captain from 2020 to 2022. The two-game series, bringing together top 2027 National Hockey League Draft prospects from the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, will be played Dec. 1-2 at Chicoutimi and Quebec City against the U.S. National Under-18 Team. The Team CHL staff is made up of those who led Canada to gold in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup tournament at Edmonton in August.
