All he did was grab the attention of the coaching staff to the point they kept their eye on the talented six-foot-three, 185-pound netminder out of Edmonton. He played last season with the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the AJHL where he was solid in 34 games finishing with a 3.21 goals-against-average, a .902 save percentage and a 17-14-1 record. He was named to the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s North All-Rookie Team. He impressed enough that the Rebels signed the 18-year-old on June 3. LETHBRIDGE, AB – Thursday Night Hockey in the Windy City saw the Red Deer Rebels continue their preseason with a road tilt versus the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It was a solid effort from start to finish for the Rebels as they skated to a 4-1 win for their first victory of the exhibition season. Nolan Schmidt opened the scoring for the Rebels when he crashed the crease and jammed the puck home for his first tally of the preseason. Lethbridge tied it a couple minutes later when a shot from defenceman Owen Berge banked off a Rebels defender and past netminder Nathan Salisbury. It was a 1-1 game through 20 minutes. Poul Andersen scored his second of the preseason in the first minute of period two as he tucked a deke past Hurricanes starting goalie Leif Oaten. RED DEER, AB - It was a successful end to the preseason Friday night for the Red Deer Rebels as they doubled up the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2 at the Marchant Crane Centrium. The Rebels earned their second win in as many night following Thursday's 4-1 win in Lethbridge to finish preseason play with a 2-1-1-0 record. Rookie Paxson Madill opened the scoring for Red Deer late in the first period when he tucked a backhand deke past Edmonton goalie Ethan Simcoe. Luc Trevors made it 2-0 with a fantastic individual effort that finished with a toe drag and snipe past Simcoe for his second goal of the preseason. Edmonton finally solved Rebels goalie Matthew Kondro in the opening minute of period three on a shot from defenceman Josh Lee. Former Saskatoon Blades forward Fraser Minten has signed a seven-year, $50.4 million contract with the Boston Bruins. The deal was announced by Boston on Tuesday, carrying an average annual value of $7.2 million. The Vancouver, BC native suited up for 36 games in the Blue and Gold during the 2023-24 season, becoming a fan-favourite in a short period of time. Minten was acquried by Saskatoon in November 2023 in a blockbuster trade with the Kamloops Blazers. The 6-foot-2 forward scored 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points during the regular season with Saskatoon. Minten added eight goals and six assists in 16 playoff games, helping the Blades reach Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final in 2024. OWEN SOUND, Ont. - The Owen Sound Attack closed out the home portion of their pre-season schedule with a second consecutive shootout loss, this time to the Brampton Steelheads, 4-3. With the Attack missing six players away at NHL Rookie Camps, the younger members of the teams core step up and challenged the Steelheads all night long. Finding the back of the net for the Bears were Max Delisle, Max Fransen and Cameron Merrick. Keaton Ardagh, Troy Patton and Peter Green answered for the Steeleheads with Kieran Witkowski scoring the shootout winner.
