Five unanswered goals flipped the game around, however, as the Springfield Thunderbirds roared back for a 7-4 victory. A wild first period saw the Thunderbirds jump out to a 2-0 lead. Alek Kaskimäki opened the scoring 4:37 in, taking a pass on the left-wing side, cutting to the goal, and beating Dylan Garand by the right pad.
