The NHL Draft Lottery has hockey fans furious once again. The Toronto Maple Leafs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016… and immediately jumped up to the #1 overall pick. Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings stayed put once again after another year of brutal lottery luck. But, I think it’s just that. Luck. As much as it has people talking, the idea that the draft would be “fixed” would be a disaster for this sport. Still, over the last decade, Detroit has never moved up in the draft lottery. In fact, the Red Wings have dropped a combined 8 spots during that stretch.
