Oil Kings’ Stroeder scores twice on home ice, Canada flattens Slovakia 6-1 at Hlinka Gretzky Cup -
Edmonton, Alta.- Five Western Hockey League skaters, including Edmonton Oil Kings forward Kayden Stroeder, enjoyed a multi-point night as Canada rolled Slovakia 6-1 to improve to 2-0-0-0 at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. 2026 WHL Champion and Defenceman of the Year finalist Landon DuPont (Everett Silvertips / Calgary, Alta.) was named Canada's Player of the Game with a one-goal, one-assist effort. The 22-year-old stayed steady in his second season in the professional ranks, notching 11 points (3G-8A) in 52 games with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers before getting called up to the show.

Hockey Was Never the Same After Wayne Gretzky -
Hockey Was Never the Same After Wayne Gretzky. Before “The Great One” entered the NHL, hockey was dominated by intimidation, physical punishment, enforcers, and the belief that toughness mattered more than creativity. Then a skinny young player from Brantford, Ontario, arrived and completely rewrote the definition of greatness. Wayne Gretzky didn’t overpower opponents—he outthought them. His unmatched vision, anticipation, passing ability, and control from behind the net transformed hockey into a faster, smarter, more creative game. With the Edmonton Oilers, Gretzky helped build a legendary dynasty, won four Stanley Cups, scored an unbelievable 92 goals in one season, and became the only player ever to record more than 200 points in a single NHL campaign. This hockey documentary explores Gretzky’s historic records, his famous “office” behind the net, the Edmonton Oilers dynasty, and the shocking 1988 trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Kings. There hasn’t been a huge amount of turnover from the 2025-26 version of the Flyers to the one slated for training camp in September. NHL Prospect Watch: Edmonton Oilers -
In the lead-up to the 2026-27 hockey season, we’re diving into the WHL prospect pool for every NHL team. To be included in this list, a player must be recently drafted, signed to an NHL contract, or meet the NHL’s criteria for rookie status. Today, we're getting greasy with the Edmonton Oilers. Lafreniere, 19, tied for sixth in goals among all WHLers while helping the Kamloops Blazers clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2023. After logging two goals and an assist in the WHL postseason, the 6-foot, 183-pound winger made his professional debut with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors on an amateur tryout and notched a goal and two assists in eight regular-season and playoff games.
