2026 player review Vincent Desharnais: -
When the San Jose Sharks traded a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Vincent Desharnais in March of last year, there wasn’t much to the deal. The idea was that the Sharks had acquired a depth 6/7 defenseman who would fill in when there was an injury. For a fifth-round pick far, far in the future, it wasn’t a hefty price to pay. So it was a surprise when Desharnais proved, midway through the season, to be one of the more reliable and steadfast defensemen within the Sharks’ lineup. In a season that included up-and-down play by other players on the blueline, the coaching staff has been able to rely on the 6-foot-7, 29-year-old to lock down the right side of the defense. While he will never be a scoring machine, he can effectively kill penalties with his long reach and clear out the front of the net. Two things that the Sharks seemed to be lacking at various times during the season. Desharnais’ 2025-26 production

Should the San Jose Sharks SIGN Alex Tuch or Target Other Top Forwards in NHL Free Agency? -
San Jose Sharks face major free agency decisions: will a top-tier forward spark a turnaround, or could a boom-or-bust gamble backfire? JD Young breaks down the free agency landscape, debating the merits of targeting Alex Tuch, Anthony Mantha, or Patrik Laine to bolster the Sharks’ forward group. With the prospect pool featuring Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Michael Misa, do the Sharks need an elite scorer, or is it better to be patient with rising stars? Key topics include Alex Tuch’s status as the class's top potential winger, the risk-reward profile of Anthony Mantha’s renaissance season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Patrik Laine’s power-play specialist appeal despite injury concerns. JD Young analyzes contract projections, roster fit, and whether San Jose should invest long-term or seize a short-term buy-low opportunity. If the Sharks don’t re-sign John Klingberg, then who plays on the right? -
Fear the Fin has started running through the player reviews, but we thought we would take a brief pause to take a deeper look at defenseman John Klingberg and who could replace him as many San Jose Sharks fans have called for at the end of this season. Klingberg was good for the Sharks … at times. At other times … well … fans had concerns. Many have hoped that they don’t see him back in teal again. However, that doesn’t solve the Sharks’ defensive problem. As of this writing (and I’ll admit that this article was penned in mid-May before I headed out on vacation), the Sharks have exactly two defensemen under contract who are expected to play in the NHL next season, and neither of them shoots from the right side. Dmitry Orlov can play on the right side. Sam Dickinson cannot. We think that Luca Cagnoni will play with the Sharks next season, but he’s not a right-shot. Eric Pohlkamp shoots from the right. We hope he&#
