Norris, McLeod, Kulich and Krebs in the Middle Tage Thompson certainly took off in his career with a move to center. When the season starts in October, he will seemingly be affixed to the right side now. Due to last season’s injuries, the team wanted him to avoid taking draws, aggravating the problem. So he moved to the wing and performed well there for the most part. This opened the door for newcomer Josh Norris to take the number one center spot. This did not last long as we all know. Norris went out quickly with a lingering injury from earlier in the season. Rookie Jiri Kulich spent a good amount of time filling in there too and acquitted himself just fine. Ryan McLeod played the top center spot as well and did not look out of place. As expected though, none of them performed offensively at the level Thompson has over the past four seasons. One of them (Norris, Kulich most likely) will need to step up and become more of a force on the t

DBTB – Well, another Draft is long gone and in the books. And given the atrocious presentation of the “remote Draft” and the calls for it to return to its roots, I’m hoping this year’s Draft was merely a one-off. Not that the original is this wonderful spectacle like the NFL Draft, but it was better than that fiasco I just witnessed. Anyways, as everyone here knows at this point, the Sabres selected big right-shot defender Radim Mrtka with their first choice. And I would argue it was a good one, but not for those inclined to short-term gratification. Mrtka will take time. He’s huge (6’6 1/2) and only came over to North America for the first time at mid-season last year. He’s got a lot to learn on and off the ice. I’m guessing he’s on the same timeline as someone like Nikita Novikov, maybe a half-year quicker just due to his raw (but impressive) talent. Defensemen always take a little longer to fig

The 33-year-old forward, who had 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 80 games last season, has one season remaining on a two-year contract he signed with Detroit on July 3, 2024. Tarasenko has 662 points (304 goals, 358 assists) in 831 games for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers and Red Wings, and 73 points (49 goals, 24 assists) in 121 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Some of those contracts highlight the key stories of the past seven days. Two For Byram: The Sabres elected to take defenseman Bowen Byram to salary arbitration earlier this month, avoiding the risk of an offer sheet. But in doing so, they gave him the right to request a two-year deal that would take him right to UFA eligibility at 26. They didn’t need a hearing in the end but Byram got his two-year deal, one that will carry a price tag of $6.25MM. Byram is coming off his first full season in Buffalo which was a career year, one that saw him record 38 points in 82 games while also averaging a career-high in ice time at 22:42 per game. This price tag is certainly reasonable for an improving top-four blueliner although the short term on the contract won’t do anything to get rid of the trade speculation t
