T McGee’s First Mock Draft of the 25-26 Season -
DBTB – Welcome to a new Draft Year!  Optimism is boundless at this point in the season, which goes not only for the NHL but all the leagues on down from the pinnacle of hockey.  And this season’s class looks to be pretty strong.  Not unlike last season, this year is heavy on talented wings and defenders, and thin at the center position (and very thin, at this point, in net).  But this draft has something last year’s was noticeably missing: a future superstar.  Gavin McKenna is that guy.  The Showhorse from Whitehorse is a showstopper.  He had 97P in 61 games, most of those games as a 15-year-old.  In the WHL.  That’s pretty damn good.  But just because he wasn’t done, he went and put up 20P in 7 games at the U-18 Worlds.  Why not?  So pretty good, right?  Hold my beer (well, root beer, as he wasn’t old enough to drink).  Last season, he put up 129P in 58 games, led his Medicine Hat Tigers to the WHL title, and dominated the playoffs, whe

Quinn Hughes For The Hart -
from Andrew Leal of The Hockey News, The NHL is graced with multiple elite defensemen who could be considered game breakers. The Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar and ’ Quinn Hughes can easily be associated in that category. Last season, Makar finished sixth, and Columbus Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski finished seventh in Hart Trophy voting. Hughes ended up in 12th, but that is partly due to multiple injuries that kept the Canucks' D-man off the ice and ultimately forced him to miss the 4 Nations Face-Off. However, despite being sidelined for a total of 14 games, Hughes was on a similar scoring pace to when he recorded 92 points two seasons ago. He went on to score 16 goals and registered 60 assists for 76 points in 68 appearances. Furthermore, he led his team in scoring, putting up 26 points more than right winger Brock Boeser, as a defenseman. Regardless of the incredible talent from the back end in the NHL, a defenseman hasn’t won

Avalanche’s Prospect Pool Ranked Among the Worst in the NHL -
Yesterday I wrote about the competition for a roster spot among the Avalanche’s prospects. It’s not a challenge for top six ice time up front or 18+ minutes on defense. It’s mid-level prospects — mostly overaged — fighting for an opportunity to gain the coach’s trust as a depth forward. It’s guys like Zakhar Bardakov, […] The post Avalanche’s Prospect Pool Ranked Among the Worst in the NHL appeared first on Colorado Hockey Now.
