Sharks at Ducks preseason game 1: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
Holy cow everyone, we’re back! Game one of the preseason is here and if it feels like it’s early, that’s because it is. This is a condensed preseason because then 84-game, that’s right, I said 84-game season, is starting in just a few weeks. The Sharks have four preseason games to start things off and given that this is an away game, we won’t see many of the top liners headed down to Southern California to face the Anaheim Ducks. While a team has to play a certain number of veterans in each game, they usually try to keep that number to a minimum to avoid the wear and tear on the shoo-in players. Of course, injuries are going to make that a little tougher this preseason than in others. The Sharks are dealing with some bumps and bruises early on, especially to players who were expected to at least compete for a potential spot in the line up. Adam Gaudette was the latest to be listed as day-to-day. He’s not on the trip.

Quick Hits as We Prepare to Kick Off the Season We are getting close, Sabres fans. Off the heels of their first playoff appearance in forever, the 2026-27 season is inching closer. Many NHL pundits, YouTubers and NHL fans are expecting a drop-off from Buffalo. I do too—to an extent. I doubt the Sabres reach 109 points again, but I still expect them to be a good, competitive team and probably finish second or third in the Atlantic Division. Look around elsewhere, though, and you will see some much more pessimistic predictions. Fourth place seems to be the common expectation, with some projections dropping Buffalo all the way to seventh. The losses of Alex Tuch and Bowen Byram certainly factor into that, but I think there is also a widespread belief that last season was simply a one-year fluke.
