3 Flames first-round picks combining on a goal-scoring play is incredibly rare -
Earlier this week, something pretty unique happened for the Calgary Flames. In Tuesday evening’s game against the Los Angeles Kings, 2024 first-round pick Zayne Parekh scored his first NHL goal of the 2025-26 season. Assisting on his goal were 2021 first-round pick Matt Coronato and 2024 first-round pick Matvei Gridin. When it happened, I posted…

Should the Canucks make Zeev Buium an alternate captain next season? -
Let’s be clear. This isn’t a question being asked simply because he dropped the gloves and showed more fight than any of his teammates late in Thursday’s 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. But as the Vancouver Canucks struggle with the notion of rebuilding their roster and establishing a new locker room culture, it’s…

No Requiem for the Wicked: Blackhawks vs. Predators Preview -
Following a loss on Friday night, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Nashville Predators on Sunday afternoon — a team that was supposed to be at the bottom of the standings, but has snuck their way back into the playoff conversation. The Predators are currently in the second wild card spot with 73 points. That’s right: even though Nashville was supposed to be hanging out in the basement of the league alongside the Blackhawks, they’ve won three straight, have a 5-4-1 record in their last 10 games, and are making things difficult for the Pacific Division teams fighting for a wild card spot: the Los Angeles Kings (72 points), Seattle Kraken (71), and the San Jose Sharks (70). A part of Nashville’s recent success is positive regression towards the mean in shooting percentage. On the season, the Preds have been shooting at 8.48 percent at 5-on-5 — ranked 27th overall. In their last 10 games, that’s bumped up to 9.60 percent. Not an insane numbe

It was an opponent the Habs had struggled against for years, unable to penetrate the neutral-zone forecheck of a team with solid defensive structure, especially whenever the Kings were able to play with a lead and really clamp down defensively with no further need to press for offence. On that night, adjustments were made, the Canadiens ended up with 11 shots and two goals in the each of the final two periods, and claimed a needed regulation win after a couple of crushing losses in California. Sharks at Predators game 69: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are back on the road and hopefully able to get back in the win column today. San Jose pays a visit to the Nashville Predators this afternoon. It’s the key matchup on this three game road trip with the biggest playoff implications. A win today would be a four point swing in the playoff race, since Nashville has caught up to the Sharks and even jumped into the second wildcard spot. If San Jose wants to stick in this playoff race, a win today is essential. The Sharks get some key players back today. It looks like Igor Chernyshov is ready to play after taking a tough hit on the last road trip. Yaroslav Askarov won’t get the start today, but he might be on the bench in a backup role. Ty Dellandrea is on this road trip, though whether he’ll play or just be along for the vibes is yet to be seen. The Predators have been on a roll since Dec. 8, when the team was 32nd in the NHL. Most recently, the team has won four in a row and just beat the Chicago B

Sabres at Sharks game 67: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are back home tonight and looking for a bit of retribution after last week’s drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. The Sharks were humbled in Buffalo on March 10, losing to the Sabres 6-3 on a game that showed the Sharks have a lot to clean up in their game. Luckily for the Sharks, the team has a chance to make up for that loss tonight. The team can start with stronger puck management, specifically making smarter decisions with the puck. In Buffalo, Edmonton and Ottawa, there were a lot of turnovers that did not need to happen because the Sharks were trying to force plays. This specifically happened in their own end, leading to goals by the opposing team. Cleaning that up could help the Sharks get back on track. This will, of course, be a difficult test. The Sabres are still at the top of the Atlantic Division and remain one of the hottest teams in

Sharks at Canadiens game 64: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks visit the Bell Centre today for the team’s one and only regular-season visit to Montreal. If this game is anything like the last time these two teams played, it’s sure to be a barn burner. When the Sharks and Canadiens met on March 3 at SAP Center, the teams combined to score 12 goals, including six in the third period. While the Sharks ultimately came out on top, you can be sure that today won’t be a cake walk. Montreal is 6-1-3 in its last ten games, and the one loss was the loss at SAP Center. After a solid win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday, the Sharks are looking to turn this road trip into a successful outing and hopefully add two more points to the board. Those points would go a long way to keeping the Sharks in the wild card race. As of this morning, the Sharks have dropped out of a playoff position, thanks to a win by the Los Angeles Kings last night.

Score: Sabres 4 | Kings 1 Shots: BUF 32 | LAK 27 Buffalo Sabres Goals: Thompson (Krebs, Samuelsson) Carrick (Benson, Metsa) Dahlin (Unassisted) (PP) Benson (Norris, Malenstyn) (EN) Los Angeles Kings Goals: Panarin (Kopitar, Kempe) Final Thoughts The Sabres continue their torrid pace with another win out west. It was a relatively even game heading into the third period until Edmundson crushed Benson along the boards. Benson, being a true hockey player, took the hit to give Carrick an open lane to the net and he buried the eventual game winner. The failed coach’s challenge gave Buffalo their only power play of the day which Cody Ceci ensured was a successful one. Dahlin was credited with the goal after a rebound bounced off Ceci to give the Sabres a two-goal

Flyers at Sharks game 68: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are getting ready to play another hot team today as the Philadelphia Flyers roll into town. The Flyers have won six in a row on the road, and are wrapping up the California swing with a stop in San Jose. The first two stops went well for the Flyers, a 3-2 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks and a 4-3 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings. While the Sharks appreciate the help in the playoff picture, the team would like to prevent the California sweep today. The last three games have not been kind for the Sharks in terms of playoff standings. The Sharks have dropped down to fifth in the wild card race with the Utah Mammoth still holding strong to the first wild card spot and the Los Angeles Kings taking over the second spot. The Seattle Kraken and the Nashville Predators have jumped in front of the Sharks in the race with 71 points apiece. The Sharks are a point back with 70. The only good news in all of this is that the Sharks have at least a game in

Sharks at Senators game 65: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks get ready for the second game of back-to-backs today. The good news for the Sharks is that the Ottawa Senators are also playing the second game of a back-to-back, albeit with a bit more rest. The Senators played yesterday afternoon against the Anaheim Ducks and were kind enough to do the Sharks a favor and beat the Ducks 2-0. Ullmark made 23 saves for the shutout. For those of you playoff race watching, that loss allowed the Vegas Golden Knights (F*** Vegas) to leapfrog the Ducks back into first in the Pacific Division.

Sharks Playoff/Lottery Hopes March 25, 2026 -
The San Jose Sharks are swimming in some uncharted waters. Not only is the team still a playoff contender, though its chances are dwindling dramatically, but the Sharks are also very much a lottery contender, putting the team in a very interesting position heading into the final few weeks of the season. As Sharks fans, that means there are two races to watch this time around. The race for the playoffs and the race to see who will have the best odds of picking first overall in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. Playoff Race Update It was a busy night for the contenders. As we know, the Nashville Predators continued to show a veteran strength, winning the team’s fifth straight game 6-3 over the Sharks. The Predators also gained ground on the Utah Mammoth, the current holders of the first wild card spot. The Mammoth lost in regulation to the Edmonton Oilers 5-2. And around the league, no one did the Sharks any favors. The Florida Panthers allowed the

Quick Bites: Sharks Drop Winnable Game to Oilers -
Every NHL game is important at this time of year, whether your team is in the playoff push or not so subtly tanking for the draft lottery, there is always something to cheer for. Some noteworthy lineup changes for this game injected some extra intrigue on top of the obvious Pacific Division playoff race. Edmonton Oilers’ superstar Leon Draisaitl will be out for the rest of the regular season with a lower body injury, and this was the Oilers first game without him. The San Jose Sharks scratched young defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin in favor of the veteran Nick Leddy. This one is sure to be a sore spot for fans, and I’ll get back to this later when I talk about the questionable lineup changes mid match. Game Overview: The Sharks struggle with consistency, whether that is from game to game or period to period. Inconsistency leads to losses, and that was the case again last night. The Sharks did score first, with Dmitry Orlov getting his second of the year b

GM #64: New York Rangers @ Winnipeg Jets -
Since both the Winnipeg Jets & Seattle Kraken lost on Tuesday night, our team remains 5 points back of the NHL’s Western Conference’s final wildcard spot…though the Los Angeles Kings have now joined the Kraken at 67 points, while the San Jose Sharks & Nashville Predators are just a single point back of that. So while the True Northers have closed the gap to a potential playoff berth…..they have yet to pass any of the clubs in their way. The Jets’ points streak came to an abrupt end, with a horrible performance against the Anaheim Ducks, so the coaching staff will be looking for a much better effort tonight. In the middle of a long homestand, the Canada Life Centre will host the visiting New York Rangers on Thursday evening, setting up a clash between two of the league’s worst franchises. Winnipeg (26-27-10) will be entering action on a 1 game losing streak and holding onto the 27th best record in the NHL (

GM #65: Colorado Avalanche @ Winnipeg Jets -
The National Hockey League had a light schedule for Friday, with only two games on the books…yet both outcomes had an impact on our franchise. With the St. Louis Blues’ overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets fell from 27th to 28th in the standings and the Los Angeles Kings victory over the New York Islanders extended the gap to the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot to 7 points. So the True Northers fell back on a night they weren’t even playing…….and now they have to face the league leading Colorado Avalanche to try to restore their post-season hopes. The Avs have been the cream of the NHL this season, amassing a whopping 97 points and are pace for a total of 124 for the full campaign, which is 8 more than the President Trophy winning Jets had last year. The two franchises could not be more different this season…. Winnipeg (26-28-10) will be entering the action on a 2 game losing ski

GM #68: Winnipeg Jets @ Boston Bruins -
Too busy today to complete a full Winnipeg Jets’ preview for tonight’s game, so here is an abbreviated version… WPG Jets @ BOS Bruins Start Time: 6 pm Central – TD Garden Winnipeg (28-28-11) is in 27th place in the NHL with 67 points on the season, scoring 191 Goals For (26th) and allowing 206 Goals Against (13th). Mark Scheifele leads the Jets with 31 goals, 52 assists, and 83 points. Kyle Connor is tied for the goal scoring lead as well, while Gabriel Vilardi is 5 back with 26 goals. The True Northers have been below .500 on the road this year (11-15-5) and that could be impactful with 10 of their final 15 contests being outside of Manitoba. Boston (37-23-8) is in a tie for 10th place in the NHL with 82 points on the season, scoring 224 Goals For (12th) and allo

The Lottery Race: Where Will the Jets End Up? -
After I clocked out for the week from my full time gig, I decided to spend a bit of time looking to see what the likelihood is the Winnipeg Jets will use their final 14 remaining games to move up or down in the standings. The recent losses to the Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins have made a playoff bid even more unlikely, yet the True Northers are still only 5 points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the Western Conference’s final wildcard spot. However, with three more clubs between Winnipeg and a playoff berth, there are many other contenders for the 8th spot. I will dive more into the chances for the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, or San Jose Sharks ousting the Kings for the post-season later, but lets just say that Los Angeles has by far the easiest schedule left to play…so they have a HUGE advantage. Before I go on with what I discovered, here is how the bottom of National Hockey League’s standings looked before action got unde

GM #71: Vegas Golden Knights @ Winnipeg Jets -
Up until now, the Jets have stubbornly remained in the wildcard fight, routinely picking up at least one point (only outright lost 4 of their past 16 contests). Despite Winnipeg often adding points to their year total, they actually have only managed to move from the 5th worst record to the 7th. However, since there are 5 teams with 2 or less points ahead of them in the standings….our hockey team could significant diminish the value of their upcoming 1st round draft pick over the remainder of the schedule. Yet Tuesday begins a tough stretch for the Winnipeg Jets, as they will have four games against clubs that have historically caused the True Northers problems…..the Colorado Avalanche, the Dallas Stars, and today’s opposition, the Vegas Golden Knights. With only the easier Chicago Blackhawks in the next 5 contests, there is a possibility that the Jets could walk away with only 2-3 out of 10 potential points and stall their slow crawl up the st
