Quick bites: Sharks jump on Oilers early, flop in overtime -
The San Jose Sharks could not have asked for a better start in Edmonton. Less than two minutes into the game, the team jumped out to a two-goal lead against the Edmonton Oilers, with Collin Graf getting the first point on the board just 26 seconds into the game and Adam Gaudette adding a second one 1:11 later. A Michael Misa goal midway through the first period put the Sharks up 3-0 and with a comfortable lead, the team was in good shape. Knowing its opponent, San Jose was not content to sit back on its heels and ride out the rest of the game. Looking at Natural Stat Trick’s Corsi Differential in All Situations, you can see that through two periods, the Sharks did a very good job of sticking with a much more skilled and well-rounded Oilers team through two periods of the game.

Quick Bites: Sharks take losing streak into Olympic break -
The San Jose Sharks arrived in Denver for their final game before the Olympic break looking to set the recent past aside. After three losses in a row, each of which felt like a lost opportunity to keep pace in the playoff race, the team was in search of something positive to take into the pause. However, an always severe challenge against the league’s best, the Colorado Avalanche, stood in their way. The last time San Jose faced Colorado in Denver, the team had no answers in a 6-0 loss. This time around, the Sharks put up a much better fight, but still fell 4-2 to the Avalanche. There’s no shame in losing to this Avalanche team; Colorado seems destined to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup. While the Sharks have broken through the phase of being placated by “mor

Sharks at Flames game 53: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
So far, the San Jose Sharks’ road trip is going okay. The team would have liked to get that extra point in Central Alberta, but three out of four potential points is a good way to start things off. This afternoon, the Sharks have a chance to make some headway in the playoff race with a win over the Calgary Flames. While it’s a bit early to be standings watching, here’s where the Sharks stand as of this morning.

USA, Canada women set to meet in gold medal round; Men’s quarterfinals set -
Checking back in on Olympic hockey, where the U.S. women are in the midst of an epic run that can only be described as dominant. Through the entire Olympics, teams have collectively scored just one goal against the Americans. That’s right. One goal. That includes America’s closest rival on the ice, Canada. America beat Canada 5-0 in the round robin play, a game Canada certainly remembers and will be using as fuel on Thursday. And that’s important to remember because the score from that game means nothing. This game starts with a clean slate. The winner takes home the gold. The loser goes home with silver. The U.S.-Canada matchup is the same matchup that’s occurred in almost every Olympics since the women’s tournament started in 1998 (in 2006, Sweden upset the U.S. in the semifinals and America end up winning a bronze medal). The U.S. women got here by defeating Sweden in the semifinals via another shutout. Goaltender Aerin Frankel stopped 21 shots and the U.S. w

Team Canada arrives in Milano Cortina, Women underway -
The women’s tournament is already underway, and the buzz in the Olympic village is the norovirus that appears to be making its way through the teams. Finland had to postpone the start of its games, as several of its players went into isolation to start the tournament. The Finns opened the games against the U.S. women on Feb. 7 and promptly lost 5-0, potentially feeling some of the after effects of the illness. Then there’s the Swiss, who also had several of its players placed in isolation after a player was diagnosed with norovirus. So far, Canada and the U.S. women’s teams have stayed healthy, but with all the teams playing and practicing in the same areas, it’s a definite risk. The U.S. women have opened the tournament with two wins. A 5-1 victory over Czechia to open the tournament and the aformentioned 5-0 win over Finland. The Canadian women are in the same pool as the U.S. women but have had the start of their tournament delayed.

Sharks at Oilers game 52: Lines, game thread and how to watch -
The San Jose Sharks are in Alberta today for the first of two matchups against the Canadian teams there. The Sharks play the first of this season’s games against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are 27-19-8 this season, but only 5-3-2 in the team’s last 10 games. Still, it’s good enough for second in the Pacific Division, just one point back from the Vegas Golden Knights, who sit in first. At the same time, the Sharks are five points back of the Oilers with three games in hand; a win tonight could help the Sharks make huge strides in the standings. The Oilers are led by Connor McDavid, who has 92 points in 54 games this season. He also leads the team with 33 goals. Leon Draisaitl is second on the team with 74 points in 51 games, a bit off his usual scoring pace. On the backend, Tristan Jarry is 15-5-2 this season with a .900 save percentage, while Connor Ingram is 5-3-1 with a .909 save percentage. Ingram is expected to start for the Oilers to

Quick bites: Sharks make quick work of Canucks -
In a season of disappointments for Vancouver Canucks fans, add last night’s game to the list. Things started out so promising, with the home team getting on the board 1:15 into the game. It looked like the team might give the home fans something to cheer about in a lost season. (Sorry Vancouver, Sharks fans can relate.) Instead, the San Jose Sharks, a few years ahead in the rebuild and fueled by those young draft picks acquired in said rebuild evened the score 36 seconds later. Macklin Celebrini one-timed a no-look pass from Will Smith to even things up. Celebrini stays HOT to tie the game 🔥 pic.twitter.com/fndAwVKnPP— Sharks on NBCS (@NBCSSharks)
