Storm prospect Andrew Baker named GOHL Prospect of the Week -
TORONTO - The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) today announced that Guelph Storm prospect Andrew Baker of the Chatham Maroons is the GOHL Prospect of the Week, producing two goals, six assists and eight points in a pair of victories. Baker opened the season with a goal and two assists in Chatham's 4-1 road win over the London Nationals on Saturday. He followed that up with five points (1-4--5) as the Maroons defeated the Komoka Kings 6-2 in their home opener on Sunday. A 17-year-old from Woodslee, Ont., Baker was Guelph's 2025 ninth round (165th overall) pick from the Sun County Panthers AAA program, where he won ALLIANCE championships in 2024 and 2025. He was the PJCHL Stobbs Division Rookie of the Year in 2025-26, producing 34 points (13-21--34) over 42 contests with the Essex 73's. A panel of 32 accredited OHL media members has weighed in on the 2026-27 season. Each voter submitted a 1-20 ballot, with a first-place vote worth 20 points and descending from there. The average score appears in brackets beside each team. The 2027 Memorial Cup host Guelph Storm open the season atop the rankings, edging the London Knights. OHL Power Rankings will be published weekly on Mondays. 1. Guelph Storm (19.47) The Storm carry the heaviest expectations in the league, and they've earned them. Guelph added Ryan Roobroeck — 99 career goals and counting — and Ethan Czata from Niagara, brought in Owen Griffin from Oshawa over the summer, and kept the group intact around Tyler Hopkins and 20-goal sophomore Carter Stevens. With the defending Memorial Cup champion Kitchener Rangers hailing from the OHL, there’s no doubt an extra layer of motivation for clubs to make upgrades to keep the trophy in the league. That has been led by 2027 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota hosts Guelph who have made a plethora of moves to bolster their side ahead of next May. But - as you will see below - they aren’t alone: Ryan Roobroeck / Ethan Czata (Niagara → Guelph) The additions of both Ryan Roobroeck (CHI) and Ethan Czata (TB) will pay immediate dividends for Corey Stillman’s roster. After wrapping up the first four games of the 2026 pre-season, twelve members of the Guelph Storm will head out to various NHL camps and prospect tournaments. Ryan Roobroeck – Chicago Blackhawks The newly acquired Storm forward was originally selected in the first round (2nd overall) by the IceDogs in the 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In three seasons in the OHL, the 6-foot-4, 215 lbs forward has recorded 99 goals and 97 assists for 196 points in 176 regular season games. Roobroeck has added another 6 points (3 goals and 3 assists) in 5 career OHL playoff games. Roobroeck’s 99 career OHL goals leads all 2007-born players over the last three seasons. Thinking about the Blackhawks roster heading into the new season, my mind wandered to the penalty kill. Last year, the Hawks had one of the top units in the NHL; they were the best in the league before the trade deadline. I think we can safely assume the first two defensemen over the boards on the PK will be Alex Vlasic and Ian Cole this season. But, looking beyond those two, there are some questions. Wyatt Kaiser will likely see an increased role. But who will be the fourth defenseman killing penalties? Last year in Buffalo, Bowen Byram spent almost the same total ice time killing penalties (133:06 — 1:37 per game) as he did on the power play (131:02 — 1:36 per game). Assuming he’ll be part of the Blackhawks’ top power play unit, Chicago’s coaches may look at backing him off the penalty kill. And, considering Vlasic, Cole and Kaiser are all left-handed, there might be an opp

Three Former OHL Players Advance to NHL Officiating System -
The Ontario Hockey League is pleased to congratulate officials Nick Isaacson, Hayden Verbeek and Chris Martenet, who have been hired by the National Hockey League on minor-league officiating contracts for the 2026-27 season. All three arrive in the NHL officiating system after previously playing in the Ontario Hockey League before returning to the league as officials. Isaacson and Martenet were both selected to participate in the 2025 CHL/NHL Officials' Development Camp in St-Hyacinthe, Que. last November, where they worked directly with NHL officiating supervisors through classroom meetings, video review and game assignments. Less than a year later, both have earned the opportunity to advance into the professional officiating ranks. Flyers Top 25 Under 25, No. 10: Jett Luchanko -
As soon as the Philadelphia Flyers selected center Jett Luchanko with the 13th overall pick at the 2024 NHL Draft, it was a controversial decision. Instead of going with the online consensus of defenseman Zeev Buium or Finnish center Konsta Helenius, the Flyers went with the speedy, detailed center out of Guelph. Unfortunately, it’s not looking to hot but there is a world where his stock goes back up to some previous hype levels fairly soon.
