SERIES PREVIEW: Calgary Hitmen vs. Medicine Hat Tigers -
It's an all-Alberta showdown in Round Two of the 2026 WHL Playoffs. The Central Division rivals from Medicine Hat and Calgary are ready to battle in the postseason for the first time in more than a decade. Calgary, which finished third in the Central Division, was the first Eastern Conference team to move on to the second round after completing a sweep of the Brandon Wheat Kings on April 2. The 2025 WHL Champion Tigers needed five games to move on after being stunned by the seventh-seed Regina Pats in Game 2 of their opening series. Medicine Hat took the regular season series against Calgary in dominant fashion with a 7-1-0-0 record, though four of those games were decided by a single goal and three required overtime or a shootout. The Tabbies are tied with the regular-season champion Everett Silvertips for most goals in the first round with 25, though none of the Tigers have surpassed three goals- yet. Hitmen down Wheat Kings in four, move on to Round Two of the 2026 WHL Playoffs -
The Calgary Hitmen whacked the Brandon Wheat Kings with a first-round sweep move on to Round Two of the 2026 WHL Playoffs. Brandon led Calgary 2-0 in a must-win Game 4 in Virden, Man., but the visitors stormed back with four unanswered goals to seal a 4-2 win. Alternate Captain Ethan Moore scored the game-winner in each of Calgary's four victories. But the five-game series doesn't capture how close the matchup truly was. Game 1 saw Eric Tu and Filip Ruzicka trade showstopping saves long into the night as Calgary prevailed 1-0 in triple overtime. Moore's marker sealed the longest 1-0 playoff game in the WHL's internet era. The rematch saw Calgary strike twice in the last 10 minutes, including a game-tying goal from captain Axel Hurtig, to force extra time, where Moore ended the match by hammering a powerplay rebound home for a 6-5 win. Hitmen star Julien Maze was in on all six of Calgary's goals, logging one tally and five assists, while Moore, 21, bagged a team-best five goals a

VP Sports & Entertainment presents: Hitmen Captain Hurtig inks three-year, entry-level deal with Calgary Flames -
Talk about a whirlwind 24 hours for Axel Hurtig. Fresh off of assisting the game-winning goal in the Hitmen's Game 3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings, Hurtig has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames. The Hitmen captain has logged six goals and 13 assists for 19 points and a +21 rating in 64 games in 2025-26. He's also picked up a goal and two assists in three games in the 2026 WHL Playoffs. https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2038458949624856581 The Hitmen selected Hurtig in the first round of the 2023 CHL Import Draft, and the Flames called his name weeks later with the 208th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft. Hurtig made the jump to North America for the 2024-25 season, helping the Hitmen reach Game 7 of the second round of the 2025 WHL Playoffs. Montreal Canadiens Organizational Players of March -
NHL Player of the Month: Cole Caufield Several Canadiens players had incredible performances in March, a month in which the team only lost five times, and four of those were to either the San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks. They played a lot of games of critical importance to the playoff race in the Eastern Conference and won every one of those games save a loss to the Detroit Red Wings. There were three legitimate candidates to claim this honour this time, but the winner is the one who led the league in a few categories. Cole Caufield has made headlines all season long for his timely goal-scoring, and no one scored more than the three game-winners he had in 14 games, tying him with five others. He sat alone atop the even-strength goals like with 10 of his 12 scored in those situations, and overall ended up one goal behind Pavel Zacha for the outright lead while playing two fewer games (and one in which he was too ill to take a regular shift).

Former Americans alternate captain Mutala named 2025-26 CW WHL Top Performer, reflects on U SPORTS career -
Sasha Mutala is flying high to close out his UBC Thunderbirds career. The former Tri-City Americans alternate captain has been named the 2025-26 Canada West/Western Hockey League Top Performer after a historic campaign for UBC. Mutala led the conference in scoring with 46 points (12G-32A) in 28 games, marking the highest point total by a Thunderbirds skater in 30 years and setting a program record for single-season assists. He was only held off the scoresheet three times this season, while helping UBC to a program record 23-win campaign. "It's truly an honour," Mutala said. "I know so many good players who have won these awards in the past, and it's very humbling to be recognized so much in such a short period of time. Team success breeds individual success. I was so lucky to play with two incredible players, with Scottie (Scott Atkinson, Edmonton Oil Kings) and Dougie (Chris Douglas, Red Deer Rebels) on my line... SERIES PREVIEW: (5) Brandon Wheat Kings vs. (4) Calgary Hitmen -
If the regular season series between the Calgary Hitmen and Brandon Wheat Kings is any indication, fans are in for a hotly-contested showdown in Round One of the 2026 WHL Playoffs. The fourth-seed Hitmen are back in the dance after a Game 7 heartbreaker in the second round in 2025. Despite seeing plenty of roster turnover with fan favourites like Ben Kindel and Carter Yakemchuk graduating to the professional ranks, Calgary has stayed consistent in a top-heavy Central Division. Four Hitmen players have surpassed 20 goals, including 2025 Pittsburgh Penguins selection Kale Dach and lights-out trade pickup Julien Maze. Maze, 18, is tied for ninth in goals among all WHLers with 38 (24 of which came with Calgary). General Manager Garry Davidson also added grit by bringing in power forward and Ottawa Senators prospect Blake Vanek from the Wenatchee Wild at the 2026 WHL Trade Deadline. Calgary has set itself apart with the second-best powerplay in the league with Dach and Maze at the hel

Regina Pats punch ticket to the 2026 WHL Playoffs -
Pitter Pat-ter! The Regina Pats have qualified for the 2026 WHL Playoffs with some help from the out-of-town scoreboard. Despite suffering a 4-2 setback to the Brandon Wheat Kings in their final tilt of the regular season, Regina clinched by nature of a 4-1 Moose Jaw Warriors loss to Swift Current on Saturday. This marks Regina's first trip to the postseason since 2023, when Chicago Blackhawks alternate captain Connor Bedard was leading the Pats' attack. The East Division underdogs have been steadily heating up in the second half of the regular season, highlighted by a 7-3-0-0 run from February 11, 2025, to February 28, 2025. Regina has three players who've cracked 20 goals in 2025-26, led by veteran Keets Fawcett's 30-goal campaign. Alternate captain Caden Brown leads the Pats in scoring with 61 points (28G-33A) in 64 games, while 2026 NHL Draft-eligible Zachary Lansard is cruising with 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points in 68 outings.
