Rebels legend Mathew Dumba retires after 13 seasons in the NHL -
By Cami Kepke - Decorated defenceman and King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner Mathew Dumba is hanging up his skates after 13 seasons in the NHL, the NHL Players' Association announced Friday. The 32-year-old suited up for five clubs over the course of his NHL career, but his journey to the highest level of hockey began in his home province of Alberta. Dumba, from Calgary, Alta., was selected by the Red Deer Rebels with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 WHL Prospects Draft. Notably, the top five selections from that draft all went on to play in the NHL, including Stanley Cup champions Derrick Pouliot and Chandler Stephenson and Toronto Maple Leafs alternate captain Morgan Rielly. As a 15-year-old, Dumba netted a pair of assists in six call-up appearances and saw limited ice in two playoff games, but burst onto the scene in his rookie campaign in 2010-11. The 6-foot, 182-pound defenceman scored Red Deer's first goal of the season and cruised to a 26-point (15G-11A)

Lindgren proving a perfect fit in Red Deer -
By DANNY RODE - Defence has always been a major part of Red Deer Rebels success. So, when they got an opportunity to select Zeb Lindgren in the 2026 CHL Import Draft they jumped at the opportunity. Lindgren, a 2025 draft selection of the New York Rangers, had all the ingredients needed to fit onto the Rebels blueline. The 19-year-old native of Umea, Sweden has the size – six-foot-one, 205-pounds, plays the game with speed and has a high hockey IQ. One of the few things Lindgren needed to work on was getting used to playing on a smaller ice surface. “It was a change for sure,” he said following practice Wednesday. “But I’m feeling better and better each game with my timing and everything. “We play more of a North-South game here and the guys do get on top of you quicker and you have to react faster and make plays faster so that’s what I’m working on.” Rebels assistant coach Mike Egener, who looks after the defence, agreed. “Play here happens quicker,” he said. “B

Andersen glad to help fuel early Rebels success -
By DANNY RODE - Red Deer Rebels star winger Poul Andersen wasn’t about to let his buddy Beckett Hamilton get away with anything. A week after Hamilton was named the WHL Player of the Week, Andersen stepped in to claim the award. Andersen put together an outstanding three-game road trip, accumulating eight points on six goals and two assists. Four of those goals came in a 5-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors. He also picked up a helper to make it a perfect evening. Andersen had a smile when asked about taking the honour a week after his linemate. “I had a feeling that would happen,” he said. Rebels head coach Brent Kisio was more than pleased to help the pair celebrate. “Those celebrations are hard to get in this league,” he said. “It doesn’t happen enough and even one of them to receive the award is great. Poul received recognition for how hard he played. He led us to a couple of wins there as did Hamilton the week before. “It’s great to see the two playing t
