Aiden Foster scored twice in the victory, while Peyton Shore collected his first win as a Cougar, making 29 saves. BOX SCORE In an exciting opening period, the Cougars opened the scoring with a terrific short-handed goal from Aiden Foster. It started with a blocked shot by Corbin Vaughan that sent Foster in on a breakaway. Despite pressure from a Wheat Kings defender, Foster made no mistake, finding the back of the net at 10:49. A native of Prince George, B.C., Harrington has played in three full WHL seasons and is coming off a season where he had a career-high 28 goals and 57 points. In 195 WHL games, Harrington has scored 54 goals and added 79 assists to go along with eight goals and 11 assists in 29 playoff games. On the international stage, Harrington represented Canada Red at the 2023 U17 World Hockey Challenge, where he scored three goals in seven games. He was selected by the Flames in the second round, 36th overall, of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The wait is nearly over. The Prince George Cougars will open the 2026-27 WHL regular season with Home Opening Rivalry Weekend against the Penticton Vees at the CN Centre. The two-game weekend begins Friday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. and concludes Saturday, September 19 at 6:00 p.m. The weekend marks a rematch of the 2026 Western Conference Semifinals, when the Vees eliminated the Cougars in six games. Prince George, B.C. — Peyton Shore is bound for the Northern Capital. The Prince George Cougars have traded for the 6-foot-2, 179-pound netminder in a deal with the Red Deer Rebels. In return, the Rebels get a sixth-round pick (from Penticton) in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft. Shore, 18, is preparing for his third season in the WHL. In 2025-26, he posted a 4-12-0-1 record, a 4.71 GAA, an .859 save percentage and one shutout on a Rebels squad that eked into the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. The Rebels have acquired a sixth-round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft from the Cougars in exchange for 2008-born goaltender Peyton Shore. The pick acquired by the Rebels originally belonged to the Penticton Vees. Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades concluded the 2026 Western Hockey League (WHL) preseason with back-to-back nail-biters against the Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats over the weekend. Saskatoon fell 5-4 in overtime on Friday on the road the the Art Hauser Centre against Prince Albert. Trailing 5-1 more than halfway through Saturday's tilt against Regina at SaskTel Centre, the Blades clawed back to tie the game 6-6 and force an extra frame. Regina won the game 7-6 with 59 seconds remaining in overtime. A big part of the near comeback was a five-point performance from 19-year-old winger Kazden Mathies. The third-year Blade scored a hat-trick and added two assists to finish the preseason with six goals and four assists in three games. By Dave Dormer   Even though he’s lived in North America for the last couple of years chasing his dream of playing pro hockey, Mikhail Cherepanov is still experiencing some cultural firsts. His latest came soon after the 18-year-old Russian import arrived in Kamloops ahead of the Blazers training camp, when he joined his new teammates for an afternoon of baseball. It was his first time playing the sport. “It was a great experience,” he said with a beaming smile after the Blazers won their pre-season opener 4-3 in a shootout over the Penticton Vees. “It was so much fun because all the boys were there. I was a pitcher, then I hit the ball.
