KELOWNA, BC – Three Kelowna Rockets have been named to NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2027 NHL Draft. Forwards William Matte and Colton Lien and goaltender Harrison Boettiger were each recognized on the list, released Monday. Matte, a 17-year-old forward from Calgary, Alberta, brings a rare combination of size and skill to the Rockets lineup. Standing 6-foot-7 and 216 pounds, the left-shot forward came up through the Calgary NW Flames program before joining Kelowna. Matte has two points (1G, 1A) in eight games this season. His breakout came in the Rockets’ 10-2 win over Swift Current on October 7, when he scored his first goal of the season on a rebound and added an assist on Jaxon Kehrig’s goal, earning third-star honours. Regina, Sask. — Regina Pats forward Mathis Paull has been named to NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch List ahead of the 2027 NHL Draft, receiving a ‘C’ rating as a projected fourth- or fifth-round candidate. Paull, 17, is one of 54 WHL-developed players recognized on the list, which was unveiled Monday. The Vernon, B.C., product has recorded four points (2G-2A) in eight games with the Pats this season. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-shot forward is in his second season with Regina after tallying 13 points (7G-6A) in 55 games as a 16-year-old in 2025-26. His performance earned him the Nick Pappas Rookie of the Year Award as the Pats’ top rookie. Regina selected Paull in the third round, 48th overall, of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. The T-Birds trek through the Eastern Division continues Friday in Brandon, Manitoba against the Brandon Wheat Kings. “We were certainly sluggish out there,” said head coach Matt O’Dette of his team’s subpar effort. “We didn’t play well; we didn’t compete hard and there wasn’t any aspect of our game that was good. It was disappointing.” After a scoreless first period Regina broke away with a five goal second period, scoring the first four goals over a six minute span. “Right now, we’re not showing the type of resiliency we need to show,” explained O’Dette. “Team’s in this league are good. By DANNY RODE - Jake Banicevic has made an immediate impression with the Red Deer Rebels. Banicevic joined the WHL squad after starting the season with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL. In his first four games with the Rebels, he’s accumulated three goals and a pair of assists. He collected an assist in his first game, Oct. 9 vs. Calgary, then added a hat trick to go with one helper in his third start, a 9-4 victory over the Victoria Royals this past Friday. The 18-year-old Banicevic is another of a strong list of players discovered by the Rebels scouts who are undrafted or playing at the Junior A level. Previously they’ve added the likes of Jaxon Fuder, Owen DeWitt and undrafted prospect Nathan Salisbury. Banicevic did have a previous taste of the WHL, attending the Victoria Royals camp. Wenatchee, WA - The Lethbridge Hurricanes completed the road trip sweep on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over the Wenatchee Wild at the Town Toyota Center. The Hurricanes entered having won two-straight games after wins in Tri-City and Spokane to begin their road trip and looked to stay perfect all-time against Wenatchee. It was a tentative first period which saw neither team find the net in the opening period despite Lethbridge outshooting Wenatchee 9-7. Winnipeg Jets’ Prospects: Early Season Update - I realize that it is pretty early into the hockey season to start wondering how our team’s prospects are doing….but with no games scheduled for the Winnipeg Jets over the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend, I had nothing else to think about. Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers have sent 2006-born forward Cam Parr to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2030. Parr, the 5-foot-10 left-winger from La Salle, Manitoba has played 233 games in the WHL. He was acquired via trade at the start of the 2025-26 campaign from the Spokane Chiefs after spending three seasons there. Parr's impact was immediate as his energy was hard to miss on the ice. In the first round of the 2026 playoffs, Parr scored the overtime winner in Game 5 to win the series against the Regina Pats. He has played 37 playoff games in his career, including a trip to the WHL Finals in 2025. A native of Prince George, B.C., Harrington has played in three full WHL seasons and is coming off a season where he had a career-high 28 goals and 57 points. In 195 WHL games, Harrington has scored 54 goals and added 79 assists to go along with eight goals and 11 assists in 29 playoff games. On the international stage, Harrington represented Canada Red at the 2023 U17 World Hockey Challenge, where he scored three goals in seven games. He was selected by the Flames in the second round, 36th overall, of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
