Opening Weekend Primer -
2026-09-16 The real thing begins for the Halifax Mooseheads as the regular season is set to kick off in the QMJHL after a one-month training camp for the Herd. The Mooseheads start the year on the road on Friday night at 7pm against the Cape Breton Eagles at Centre 200 before returning to Halifax for the Scotiabank Centre Home Opener on Saturday night at 7pm versus the Moncton Wildcats. This Mooseheads team has seen its fair share of turnover following a 29-29-3-3 record in 2025-26 which placed the team in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Halifax had a quick elimination in the QMJHL Playoffs by losing in four straight games to the eventual Gilles Courteau Trophy Champion Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Head Coach Brad MacKenzie is back for a second year as the bench boss following four years as an Assistant Coach. He is joined on the bench by Associate Coach Josh Hepditch who is ready for a second season with the Mooseheads while Mark Lee was added as an Assistant Coach during the of

QMJHL 2026-27: Faces in different places -
Photo credit: JaimeLee Gouthro After a 32-year wait, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens finally broke through again in 2026 as they claimed the Gilles-Courteau Trophy. And while the Cape Breton Eagles were the biggest beneficiaries of that this offseason, a number of other Atlantic Canada squads have been fine-tuning their roster ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Lucas Beckman / Liam Lefebvre / Maxim Schafer (Chicoutimi → Cape Breton The trio of Lucas Beckman (OTT), Liam Lefebvre (LA) and Maxim Schafer (WSH) are all going to have a legitimate chance at a back-to-back QMJHL title. Through a number of moves, the trio wound up in Cape Breton where they will look to lead the Eagles to a first Q title. After he began the season in Rouyn-Noranda – where he won 31 games in 2024-25 – Beckman was sensational for Chicoutimi January onwards. He won 13 of his 15 starts, owned a .940 save percentage and a 1.52 GAA. In the postseason, he backstopp

Eastlink Community TV to broadcast 20 QMJHL Games -
The QMJHL is proud to announce that Eastlink Community TV will broadcast 20 regular-season games this season, the majority of which will take place on Friday nights (15). Eastlink Community TV also plans to broadcast games during the first three rounds of the 2027 playoffs. The first regular-season matchup will be broadcast on September 18 and will feature the Halifax Mooseheads against the Cape Breton Eagles, who are considered by many to be the team to beat in the QMJHL this season. The 20th and final matchup will take place on March 20 and will feature the Moncton Wildcats against the Mooseheads. “We’re really proud of our more than 20-year partnership with the QMJHL,” said Jeff Brown, VP Sales, Operations & Customer Experience at Eastlink Community TV. “Over that span of time, QMJHL fans have had the opportunity to watch the development of Q players who have gone on to become NHL stars including Sidney Crosby, Brad Marchand, and Nathan MacKinnon, on Eastlink Community TV. 2026 Panthers Prospect Profile: Louis-Antoine Denault -
With its final selection in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, the Florida Panthers took towering goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault in the seventh round (217th overall) with the pick the Panthers received from the Minnesota Wild for veteran defenseman Jeff Petry. After going undrafted in 2025, Denault attended development camp with the Panthers as an invitee and was one of three goalies the team took to the NHL Prospect Tournament in Wesley Chapel, FL in September, so he must have made a good impression before returning for his third season in the QMJHL. Denault played in 17 games (6-9-1) with the Quebec Remparts before he was dealt to the Newfoundland Regiment on December 27. Following the trade, he appeared in 25 games with his new club and posted a 16-7-2 record, 2.69 goals against average and .913 save percentage. The postseason saw Denault backstop the Regiment to a first round win over Cape Breton before they were eliminated in six games by the Blainv

Roster reduced by three at Goodlife Fitness Training Camp -
2026-09-06 The Halifax Mooseheads reduced the roster at Goodlife Fitness Training Camp by three players on Sunday morning when 16-year-old forwards Émrik Ménard, Jamie Calla were reassigned and 19-year-old defenceman Brenden Espenell was released after clearing waivers. The subtractions leave Halifax with 23 players, including 14 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders as the team prepares to announce the opening night roster for the 2026-27 season. Ménard was the top pick by the Mooseheads at the 2026 QMJHL Entry Draft when he was selected seventh overall at Scotiabank Centre. The native of Acton Vale, QC is a highly regarded piece of the future for the team but will get an opportunity to develop and play a full season in a prominent role at a lower level after he suffered a shoulder injury last season an

Islanders fall in overtime action against the Eagles in Montague -
Montague, PE — A first real look at the Islanders' bench Sunday afternoon as they hosted Cape Breton in a packed Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague. Returning fan favourite, Donald Hickey, got the start between the pipes for Charlottetown with Sam Berthiaume on the other end for the Eagles. It was an immediate physical start on the ice with pushing and shoving being the name of the game with three minor penalties and two misconducts being called within the first eight minutes. Cape Breton got a last minute power player opportunity at the end of the first after Nolan Duskocy went to the box for a check to the head. The Islanders managed to break away any opportunity the Eagles had with a strong penalty kill effort. First 20 minutes ended in goose eggs. The second period started with a big hit that led to 4 minor penalties only 27 seconds in. And it quickly became the battle of the crossbars with both goalies being saved in back-to-back shot attempts by the

OUR 18 – High flying hockey will be the theme in Cape Breton -
Since the 2025-26 QMJHL season concluded, the Cape Breton Eagles have done plenty of wheeling and dealing. They’ve also made it a point to relay one clear, concise message to the rest of the league; if you get in our way, it’s at your own risk. The forward group features such impact returnees as last year’s leading goal scorer Reece Peitzsche and brothers Romain and Eliot Litalien. Trades and signings have bolstered much of the rest of this group significantly. Coming over from the Shawinigan Cataractes are Boston Bruins draftee Cole Chandler and German sophomore Elias Schneider. Jack Broderick of Yonkers, New York has signed on with the Eagles flock after several fantastic offensive campaigns in the U18 and prep school ranks in the US. Then there are the trades with the defending champion Chicoutimi Saguenéens that have yielded Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Lefebvre and Washington Capitals draftee Maxim Schafer. 2026 Panthers Prospect Profile: Luke Coughlin -
The Florida Panthers selected left-shot defenseman Luke Coughlin in the sixth round (191st overall) of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Before being chosen by the Panthers, the mobile two-way blueliner played two seasons for the Rimouski Oceanic after being taken fourth overall in the first round of the 2021 QMJHL Draft. Coughlin was limited to just 37 regular season games during his draft year, totaling five goals and 14 assists. His 19 points were one more than he produced during his freshman season with the Oceanic, when he appeared in 55 games. Why are there so few games played? Coughlin broke his collarbone at the end of the 2021-22 season. After returning from the injury early in the 2022-23 campaign, he was sidelined again after suffering an ankle injury which required surgery. Returning to his stats – two of his five goals came on the power play and he registered 42 shots on goal, accumulated 16 penalty minu
