BMR Student-Athletes of the Month | January 2026 -
Every month, the QMJHL honors its student-athletes following a consultation conducted by the Director of the Education Program, Valérie Monette, with the League’s academic advisors. “These student-athletes caught our attention for their brilliance both on the ice and in school, says Monette. At the QMJHL, the League, management and players understand the importance of school and do everything in their power to combine studies and sport as best they can. Yes, we want to develop future professional hockey players, but above all good citizens.” These 18 deserving recipients were carefully selected by the league teams’ academic advisors, who play a key role in supporting student-athletes on their educational journey. They are first-hand witnesses to the considerable sacrifices made by these players in their quest for academic success. Congratulations to the 18 BMR Student-Athletes of the Month for January! _

Denmark follows with two, one more than France and Germany, while Finland, Sweden, and the United States will have none. Naturally, all eyes will be on Team Canada, which will count on three former QMJHLers, and three big names: Sidney Crosby of the Rimouski Océanic, Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads, and Brad Marchand, who split his junior career between Moncton, Val-d'Or, and Halifax. All three will play a key role for Canada in its quest for the gold medal. In fact, Slovakia will be relying on four former QMJHL players, not five, since Marek Hrivik (Moncton) is injured. That would be it for containing the dazzling third-year winger, who enters February on an 11-game point streak. Included in that run are eight multi-point efforts. The high point occurred on the 15th, when Veilleux scored his second hat trick of the season and added an assist against Saint John. The following night, versus Rouyn-Noranda, Veilleux scored a first period power play marker for his 200th regular season QMJHL point.
