Royals open the 2026-27 season with win on the road -Kamloops, B.C. - The Royals opened the regular season tonight on the road at the Sandman Centre with a 4-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers. The Royals came out with fire in the first, with Hayden Moore scoring the first goal of the Royals’ season at 10:06, assisted by Caleb Matthews, to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Cole Preslusky had some big saves late in period to keep the 1-0 lead into the second. The Royals kept the momentum going in the second, but Blazers forward Andrew Thomson tied it up at 4:41 on the power play. Scoring chances continued at both ends, but it was Royals forward Cruz Waltze who answered with his first of the season to regain the one-goal lead at 14:04, with assists from Wyatt Danyleyko and Max Silver. Giants acquire Kovich from Silvertips for conditional pick -Langley, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants have acquired 18-year-old forward Nickolas Kovich from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for a conditional eighth-round pick in the 2029 WHL Prospects Draft. The trade was announced Saturday afternoon. The 6-foot-2, 187-pound Kovich, who hails from Richmond, B.C., spent the bulk of the 2025-26 season with the Richmond Sockeyes of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League (PIJHL), tallying 33 points (15G-18A) in 31 games. He also saw action in seven games with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Kovich was listed by the Silvertips on September 1, 2026. Cooper, a 2006-born forward hailing from Calgary, A.B., is entering his second season with the Royals. Cooper was acquired by the Royals via a trade with the Wenatchee Wild just prior to the start of the 2025-26 season. “Miles has been an important part of our team since he joined us last year, leading both on and off the ice.” said Royals’ Head Coach James Patrick. “When you look for a captain, you look for a player that is respected by his teammates, competes every day and leads by example, Miles checks all those boxes.” Originally drafted in the third-round of the 2021 WHL Draft by the Winnipeg ICE, Cooper has scored 143 points in 189 games in the WHL.
