And the Blackhawks are getting plenty of mentions this year. On Thursday morning, Scott Wheeler published his third annual “NHL Prospect Tiers” piece. I will say, the use of the word “prospect” is a bit of a misnomer; this is his ranking of the top 145 young players in the NHL and affiliated prospects. In doing some digging on other things, I found myself studying how the Blackhawks’ coaches deployed the forwards last season — and what it might mean in the coming year. Looking at which Blackhawks forwards had the highest percentage of their starts come “on the fly” last year was interesting. According to MoneyPuck, the Hawks’ leader was Landon Slaggert at 64.8 percent, followed by Oliver Moore (62.3), Ryan Donato (62) and Nick Lardis (61.3). Today we’re going to begin our series of previews looking ahead to the 2026-27 season for the Chicago Blackhawks. We’re breaking the previews up into goalies, defensemen and forwards. And we’ll start in the blue paint with the Hawks’ goaltending situation. There were plenty of holes in the Blackhawks’ performance last year, but there were also areas where we saw good growth and development. I would argue the biggest positive sign last year was the emergence of a legit No. 1 goalie in Chicago who could be a foundational piece to take the entire program to the next level(s). Spencer Knight showed that he’s ready to lead the depth chart and is good enough to win games the Hawks maybe shouldn’t. Having a legit No. 1 goalie is important. Two areas where the Blackhawks can help their goaltenders look better are allowing fewer shots on net and blocking more shots before they get to their netminders. Last year

The Flyers decided to keep their team largely in-tact and the front office led by Danny Briere decided to do more trimming around the edges.
