JOHN’S, NL — The Newfoundland Regiment won their first road game of the year midweek as they took down the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 6-3 on Wednesday night at the Centre d’Excellence Sports Rousseau. After a goalless opening period, Alexis Michaud got the scoring started on a Regiment powerplay 5:42 into the second to make it 1-0 Newfoundland. The second period onslaught from the visitors continued as Louis-François Bélanger, Maddex Marmulak and William Lundqvist got in on the scoring to make it 4-0 for the visitors after 40 minutes. Lundqvist’s goal marked the first in the QMJHL for the Swedish defenceman. Tyson Goguen brought it to 5-0 early in the third before the Armada clawed back a trio of late goals. ST. JOHN’S, NL — The Newfoundland Regiment took down the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in a 3-2 overtime win for the second straight day on Sunday afternoon at the Mary Brown’s Centre. Charles Laforest opened the scoring for the Huskies once again, this time 11:07 into the contest. After Maddex Marmulak replied for the Regiment seven minutes later, Jayden Pominville restored the visitors lead on the next shift to make it 2-1 Huskies after 20 minutes. Matthew Frost found an answer for Newfoundland nine minutes into the middle frame and from there neither team had a reply, sending these two into overtime once again this weekend. Marmulak wasted little time in 3-on-3 play setting this game as his second of the night 26 seconds into overtime sealed a 3-2 Regiment victory. The 2026-27 National Hockey League season gets underway tonight, and among the 32 teams, 82 former QMJHL players will begin the season in the NHL, an increase of 11 from last year. The Pittsburgh Penguins lead the way with seven QMJHL alumni: Sidney Crosby, Gabriel D’Aigle, Samuel Girard, Ryan Graves, Hendrix Lapierre, Kristopher Letang and Oliver Okuliar. The Mooseheads start the year on the road on Friday night at 7pm against the Cape Breton Eagles at Centre 200 before returning to Halifax for the Scotiabank Centre Home Opener on Saturday night at 7pm versus the Moncton Wildcats.
