The pair dive into what separated Vegas in Game 1, the goaltending battle between Adin Hill and Frederik Andersen, early Conn Smythe Trophy candidates, Carolina's struggling top line, key adjustments heading into Game 2, and what the Hurricanes need to do to even the series. Later, legendary NHL referee Bill McCreary joins the show to discuss his new book, share stories from his remarkable officiating career, explain the differences between calling games in the regular season versus the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and reflect on some of the biggest moments and personalities he encountered throughout his time in the NHL. From Stanley Cup Final analysis

Bottom Six Minutes: Habs treat their fans to quite the run, with more to come -
As disappointingly as the 2025-26 season ended for the Montreal Canadiens, it was easy for many to focus on how badly the Carolina Hurricanes beat them in the end. A game one win breathed hope into the city, two consecutive overtime losses were a gut punch that left it breathless, and then the more experienced team just took over the series completely. We even learned afterwards of the the impending loss of franchise mainstay Brendan Gallagher. One of the toughest clips to watch in some time was him acquiescing that his time with the organization has come to an end, and so without a chance to go out on his shield, as we know would be his wish. With everything that has happened over the last few days, it is more than fair for fans to be disappointed, to be sad. But also, to be hopeful. Let’s not forget how we got here. This team returned to the playoffs ahead of schedule the season prior, and looked similarly stunned by the Washington Capitals

Letter Grades for the Players, 2025-26 Season – Part 2 of 2 -
After Great Team Success, How Do the Sabres Break Down Individually? Today we take a look at the individual performances of each player and assign a letter grade accordingly. Each Sabre graded must meet the 20 games played with Buffalo minimum. So no Konsta Helenius or Sam Carrick and several others. These grades are for the regular season only, not playoffs. We will split the eligible players into two randomly listed sections. This is part 2 of 2. Josh Doan (82-25-27-52 -4) Grade A Of the many pleasant surprises this season, Josh Doan’s performance stands out. He went from the other player acquired for Peterka to a vital cog in the Sabres’ offensive machine. He set career highs in games played, goals, assists, and points. His relentless forechecking and continuous motor made him a favorite in the locker room and throughout the fanbase. Alex Tuch (79-33-33-66 +24) Grade B+

The Buffalo Sabres return to the postseason didn’t go all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals like so many of us had hoped it would. Instead we have an expected and heavily favored Eastern Conference champions Carolina Hurricanes who have breezed through with a 12-1 record taking on a surprise quantity Vegas Golden Knights who got hot at the right time and then knocked out the overwhelming favorite and Presidents Trophy winners Colorado Avalanche in a sweep. Sabres fans have reason to dislike both teams and I won’t judge you for assuming hockey season is over. 2026 Stanley Cup Final schedule Game 1: Vegas at Carolina, 8 p.m. ET, Tuesday, June 2 (ABC, SN, CBC, TVAS) Game 2: Vegas at Carolina, 8 p.m. ET, Thursday, June 4 (ABC, SN, CBC, TVAS) Game 3: Carolina at Vegas, 8 p.m. ET, Saturday, June 6 (ABC, SN, CBC, TVAS) Game 4: Carolina at Vegas, 8 p.m.

2026 Memorial Cup Head to Head: One more game for tournament-leading scorers Vanhanen, Pridham -
Kelowna, B.C.- No matter how you slice it, history will be made in the 2026 Memorial Cup Final on Sunday afternoon. The Everett Silvertips will fight to become the 11th team in CHL history to win junior hockey's top prize in its tournament debut, while the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers are off to the big dance for a record seventh time. With the hardest trophy to win in hockey on the line, there's no better time to spotlight each team's top scorer. In less than 24 hours, NHL Draft-eligible Matias Vanhanen will be on a flight to Buffalo to take part in the 2026 NHL Combine. But first, he's hoping for one more flash of brilliance in Kelowna. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound winger leads all skaters with seven points (3G-4A) at the tournament, and hasn't been held off the scoresheet yet. Vanhanen, 18, even scored on the power play to get Everett on the board in an eventual 6-2 loss to the Rangers in round-robin action last Monday. https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2059087

DBTB – A Seven Round Mock Draft? In this economy? Actually, I can’t stand that line, so let’s just say it was originally a Five Rounder but with inflation, it’s now Seven. Not that anyone noticed. No, all people want to talk about is the Sabres breaking the playoff drought…the Sabres winning a playoff series…almost winning a second one? Losing in OT in Game 7? That sounds about right. Doesn’t anyone care about the children? Seriously though, I appreciate that maybe, maybe, the days of worrying for weeks and months about who the Sabres will draft is past. As fans, we have bigger fish to fry. And honestly, I loved every second of the playoff run. But I, even in the thick of

BUFFALO – Long before he gave the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens fits in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Zach Benson’s high-octane game rankled opponents. We will split the eligible players into two randomly listed sections. This will be part 1 of 2. Owen Power (81-8-21-29 +9) Grade B Power made some strides this season with his defensive game, especially late in the year. (and on into the playoffs) He provided a bit more physicality into the middle pairing and seems to close the gap quicker on his opponent with tighter coverage. His offense fell off to just 29 points but I feel that will bump up again soon as he rounds out his game. Lots to like here as Power continues to grow. Beck Malenstyn (81-7-7

Canadiens vs. Hurricanes Top Six Minutes: Habs fall once again in overtime -
First period Montreal has been able to clear the puck out of the defensive zone a few times, but that’s about the extent of their play through the opening two minutes. They haven’t found a lane to move the puck through yet. Kirby Dach tries to throw a big hit on Jaccob Slavin in Montreal’s first excursion into the offensive zone, but bounces off his hip and crashes into the boards. Dach seems to be alright at least. Jake Evans chips the puck past Jalen Chatfield and tries to keep skating after it but gets hit instead. That’s an interference penalty to send Montreal to the power play. The top unit is unable to generate anything, but Zachary Bolduc gets a scoring chance by going to the net and picking up a blocked shot from the slot. Frederik Andersen makes the stop. Mike Matheson jumps up to keep the play alive and has the puck come to him as he’s drifting back to the blue line. He sends

Sabres vs Canadiens: Player of the Series and Stats Analysis -
Buffalo’s postseason run ended in heartbreaking fashion with a Game 7 overtime loss This article should have been written and published a few days ago, but I wanted to take the time to step away and process all the feels following the disappointment of the Buffalo Sabres getting knocked out on Monday night. That still hurts. There is no other way to put it. After a grueling, chaotic, and utterly unpredictable seven-game war against the Montreal Canadiens, the Buffalo Sabres’ first playoff run in 15 years came to a crushing end in overtime of Game 7. It’s a bitter pill to swallow for a young team that showed immense heart, especially after fighting back from a 3-2 series deficit with a historic 8-3 blowout in Game 6 to force the winner-take-all finale at KeyBank Center. Ultimately, the bounces didn’t go Buffalo’s way when it mattered most, and the Canadiens’ opportunistic 5-on-5 play and high-danger finishing proved to be the differenc

They got that by holding the Montreal Canadiens to two goals and claiming the win in overtime on a perfect shot from Nikolaj Ehlers off the post and in. The win was important for the Hurricanes, but it was far from a staggering blow to the Canadiens. From the moment he joined the Canadiens (or returned, one might say), Phillip Danault has found a way to contribute to the Montreal team’s success. After keeping Colten Ellis, Sabres open to using three goalies again: ‘It worked’ -
BUFFALO – It felt like goalie Colten Ellis’ stay here would be brief. Perhaps after filling the backup role for a couple of weeks as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen recovered from an injury, the Sabres would place the rookie back on waivers or trade him. But Ellis looked sharp in his first NHL action and fit in well, giving the Sabres extra depth at a critical position and the ability to try different things. Shortly after Luukkonen ...
