Throughout the summer, we’ll be looking back at the QMJHL careers of our 20-year-old players, who will be moving on to new opportunities next season. Today, we feature the graduating players of the Cape Breton Eagles. Lewis Gendron A seventh-round pick of the Sherbrooke Phoenix in 2021, Gendron returned to Magog in the U18 AAA ranks as a 16-year-old before playing collegiate hockey and earning a seven-game audition with the Phoenix at age 17. The following season, he established himself as a full-time QMJHL player, recording 23 goals and 44 points before being traded to Cape Breton midway through the 2024–25 season. Gendron saved his best for his 20-year-old season, posting a career-high 56 points, the highest total among the Eagles. The Sherbrooke native concludes his Q career with 145 points in 193 games, and should play for Concordia University next year. Introduction The past couple of years this has mostly been an extension of the Top 25, with too many players showing NHL ability to fit into the official countdown. With the six graduating NHLers, the quality isn’t quite the same this year, and more in line with what this section of players has usually been: skaters with an NHL skill or two but not the full set required to crack a roster, and some unproven goaltenders. The Charlottetown Islanders have added Matt Anthony as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026-27 season. Anthony joins the Islanders after spending six seasons with the Cape Breton Eagles, bringing valuable QMJHL experience to Charlottetown.

QMJHL fans will have plenty of reasons to look forward to the 2027 NHL Draft. It’s always tough to say 11 months before the draft, but for some of the league’s top prospects for this upcoming NHL Draft will be at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, in Edmonton, from Monday through Saturday, August 8 in Edmonton. Who should you keep an eye on during this U18 tournament, which will be broadcast on TSN and RDS? We suggest you five players to watch who are expected to turn heads during the upcoming QMJHL season. The 2026–27 season will be dominated by Alexis Joseph. According to most experts, the Saint John Sea Dogs forward is set to become the third QMJHL player drafted in the top five of a draft since 2020, after Alexis Lafrenière (2020, 1st by the New York Rangers) and Caleb Desnoyers (2025, 4th by the Utah Mammoth). Saint John Sea Dogs forward Alexis Joseph has been named assistant captain of the Canadian team set to compete in the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, which will take place from Monday, 3 Aug. to Saturday, 8 Aug. in Edmonton. The Lachenaie, QC native will assist captain Landon DuPont (Everett Silvertips, WHL). The other assistant captain will be Maddox Schultz (Regina Pats, WHL). Joseph, along with DuPont, is one of only two players in the Canadian squad to have represented Canada at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship. Regarded by many as one of the top prospects for the 2027 NHL Draft, he recorded 60 points, including 24 goals, in 54 games during his debut season in the QMJHL. Throughout the summer, we’ll be looking back at the QMJHL careers of our 20-year-old players, who will be moving on to new opportunities next season. Today, we feature the graduating players of the Saint John Sea Dogs. Maxime Côté Côté, a Sherbrooke native, had the opportunity to be drafted by his hometown team, the Phoenix, in the 186th overall position in 2021. At the time, he was playing Midget Espoir hockey with the Triolet Harfangs. The following season, he moved up to U18 AAA with the Magog Cantonniers, while also playing one game with the Phoenix. He earned a full-time spot in the QMJHL in 2022-23, and after two and a half seasons in Sherbrooke, he was traded to Moncton midway through the 2024-25 season. He quickly found his footing with the Wildcats, recording 27 points in 33 games before adding six points in 19 playoff contests to help them capture the Gilles-Courteau Trophy. Côté then began his 20-year-old season in Gatineau before being traded t
