Gold Lion: Blackhawks at Devils Preview -
The Chicago Blackhawks wrap up their road trip with a stop in New Jersey to face the Devils, looking to salvage something, anything, from a stretch that’s quickly gone off the rails. It’s been a while since the Blackhawks last saw the Devils — all the way back in mid-November — and the version of this team now feels pretty different from the one that was still hovering around the playoff picture at the time. The Devils spent the first couple of months flirting with relevance in the Eastern Conference race but they never quite found another gear, and they’ve been on the outside looking in since before the Olympic break. Lately, they’ve been respectable enough, going 6-4-0 in their last 10 games, but that kind of stretch doesn’t move the needle much when you’re chasing in a loaded East and with the team sitting nine points back from the final wild card spot. One major issue with the Devils this year is the lack of offensive finish outside of a

The Montreal Canadiens put in a similar effort versus the Nashville Predators, bringing an end to a mini streak of slow starts by holding their opponent to three shots in the opening frame, building a lead in the second, and coasting to a 4-1 win. Neither of today’s combatants had to expend a great deal of energy last night, and both Rod Brind’Amour and Martin St-Louis did a good job of distributing the ice time among all the skaters, with the highest deployment

Bottom Six Minutes: Ivan Demidov makes prey of the Predators -
While 77 points would barely have a team out of the basement in the Eastern Conference, for the Nashville Predators, it is currently enough for a wild card spot. Battling to hold on to their spot, they hosted the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night, a team embroiled in their own heated battle, and theirs being in the most competitive division in hockey right now. The Habs outclassed their hosts for most of the game, opening up a 4-0 lead, and nearly earning a shutout for Jacob Fowler if not for a horrible bounce off a stanchion that allowed a 4-1 final score. A big part of how they accomplished that convincing win was the young Ivan Demidov, who was all over Nashville. Ivan Demidov hits the post on his first try, then dangles and sets up Alex Newhook to make it 4-0 #Habs pic.twitter.com/7v2WzkxFRY— Mat

Canadiens @ Predators Top Six Minutes: Montreal caps 11-4-1 record versus Central Division -
It shouldn’t be a surprise that they could find a good singer in Nashville, but the anthems tonight were quite pleasant to listen to. First period After 16 shots against on Tuesday and 13 on Thursday, what can the Canadiens do in this opening period? The first line gets stuck in its own zone (maybe more fitting to say the top pairing did), but the second one gets some zone time and a shot. A better job from the top line on the next shift when Nick Suzuki knocks the puck out of mid-air and sends Juraj Slafkovský in a breakaway. Slafkovský tries to shoot against the direction he’s heading across the crease, but Juuse Saros makes the glove save. Two more scoring for the second line following an Ivan Demidov takeaway in the neutral zone. Some excellent work from Demidov once again as he hunts down the puck in the neutral zone and relaunches the attack. A few games ago we hea

Canadiens vs. Blue Jackets Top Six Minutes: Montreal sweeps three structured teams on homestand -
First period Well it’s looking a lot like the start versus the Hurricanes two days ago, with the Blue Jackets winning every puck battle in Montreal’s zone to maintain constant pressure. Jakub Dobeš has made four saves in the opening two minutes, although one of them was the result of a poor rebound he allowed. Passes are also an impossible thing for them at the moment, also like the previous game. Dobeš has become a third defenceman once again trying to break the forecheck versus his two blue-liners. Out of nowhere, the Canadiens get a two-on-one with Zachary Bolduc setting up Josh Anderson, but Jet Greaves makes the save. At Montreal’s end Adam Fantilli hits the post, then Juraj Slafkovský hauls down Kirill Marchenko after losing body positioning, and there will be an early chance on the power play for the Blue Jackets. Montreal gets through the penalty kill, and begins to c

In the end, it took Montreal going 7-1-2 in the final 10 games to cover off a season-ending six-game winning streak from Columbus to squeak into the post-season on the final day. The Canadiens were able to carry that improved form into the 2025-26 season and have been in a playoff spot for almost the entire season. That wasn’t the case for the Blue Jackets, as they went into the Christmas break with a 15-15-6 record, sitt

Canadiens vs. Hurricanes: Game preview, start time, Tale of the Tape, and how to watch -
Game 70: Montreal Canadiens vs. Carolina Hurricanes Start time: 7:00 PM EDT / 4:00 PM PDTIn the Canadiens region: TSN2 (English), RDS (French)In the Hurricanes region: FanDuel Sports Network SouthStreaming: ESPN+, RDS, TSN+ The Montreal Canadiens managed one shot in the first period when they played the Los Angeles Kings on the road on March 7. It was an opponent the Habs had struggled against for years, unable to penetrate the neutral-zone forecheck of a team with solid defensive structure, especially whenever the Kings were able to play with a lead and really clamp down defensively with no further need to press for offence. On that night, adjustments were made, the Canadiens ended up with 11 shots and two goals in the each of the final two periods, and claimed a needed regulation win after a couple of crushing losses in California. Two weeks later they

Now the Hurricanes are about to get a heavy dose of the Montreal Canadiens, playing the final two games of the season series in less than a week. Montreal took the first win between the two teams this year, and is therefore seeking to wrap up the season series with another victory tonight. The points are more vital for the Canadiens who have just a two-point edge on the Detroit Red Wings who sit outside of the playoff picture, so ev

Canadiens vs. Hurricanes Top Six Minutes: Montreal wins season series with Carolina -
First period Josh Anderson is back in the lineup, but his first shift doesn’t last very long as he gets sent off for interference a second after Phillip Danault won a defensive-zone faceoff. Nikolaj Ehlers, the hottest goal-scorer for the Hurricanes, tries to send a pass to Seth Jarvis at the top of the crease, but instead Mike Matheson deflects the puck behind Jakub Dobeš in his attempt to cut off the pass. The puck gets behind Lane Hutson and Taylor Hall turns it into a breakaway. Dobeš comes up with an important save to keep the deficit from growing. It’s all Carolina in the opening minutes. Now the Canadiens are getting into the offensive zone but can’t work the puck off the boards. One step at a time I suppose. Matheson has his stick ripped out of his hands on a Hurricanes zone entry. Oliver Kapanen comes over to help win the puck battle, but ends up slinging the puck toward his own

Bottom Six Minutes: Jakub Dobeš stars in pivotal Habs win -
Needing a win to keep pace in the Atlantic playoff race, the Montreal Canadiens hosted the top team in the entire conference on Tuesday in the form of the Carolina Hurricanes. After a horrific start saw them down two goals in the first period, they went on to score five unanswered goals, securing two points that didn’t seem within the realm of possibility in the early goings. At the centre of their comeback win was Jakub Dobeš, who stonewalled the Hurricanes after their two early goals.
