The CHL Top Scorer Award is given out annually to the highest-scoring player in the Canadian Hockey League. It was first awarded in 1994. Markus Ruck of the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) captured the honour after leading the WHL and the entire CHL with 108 points during the 2025-26 season. The 18-year-old from Osoyoos, B.C., recorded 21 goals and a CHL-best 87 assists while posting a plus-45 rating in 68 games. His exceptional vision and playmaking ability helped drive a Medicine Hat team that led the WHL in goals, owned the league’s top power play, and finished atop the Central Division. Ruck’s twin brother, Liam, finished second in both the WHL and CHL scoring races with 104 points, making Markus and Liam the first siblings in CHL history to finish first and second in league scoring in the same season. 2026 Memorial Cup Final Player to Watch: Landon DuPont, Everett Silvertips -
Kelowna, B.C.- Landon DuPont is a guy built for the spotlight. The beams fuelled by his hockey peers, fans, pundits and NHL brass will burn brighter than ever as the freshly-turned 17-year-old hits the ice in the Memorial Cup Final with the Everett Silvertips on Sunday. "No butterflies, just excitement," DuPont said of the opportunity ahead. "It's cool playing at such a stage like this in such a big tournament like this. I remember being five up until last year, just watching the Memorial Cup, wishing I could play there one day. Being here, it's truly surreal." The WHL's first exceptional-status defender will need to bring his 'A' game against the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers, who are competing in their CHL-record seventh Memorial Cup title match. The Blueshirts dished the Silvertips a 6-2 loss in round-robin play, with DuPont picking up a lone assist on a powerplay goal. One Last Dance: Rangers One Win Away from Memorial Cup Glory -
For months, the Kitchener Rangers have been answering questions. They answered them when they were passed over as 2027 Memorial Cup hosts. They answered them when the pressure mounted atop the Western Conference standings. They answered them throughout a dominant playoff run that saw them lose just twice in 18 postseason games. Now, only one question remains. Tonight, the Rangers skate onto the ice for the Championship Final of the 2026 Memorial Cup, one win away from cementing their place as the best team in Canadian junior hockey. For a veteran group that has spent the season carrying the weight of unfinished business, this is the moment they have been chasing all year. Rather than sulk over being passed over as 2027 hosts, Kitchener responded by taking the harder road, earning their place on the national stage the only way they could: by winning the Ontario Hockey League championship. Now, only the Everett Silvertips stand in the way. The WHL champions are making their first-e

Carter Bear Is BUILT For Detroit 🔥 | Memorial Cup Final Preview -
Carter Bear and the Everett Silvertips are heading to the Memorial Cup Final after a dominant 6-1 victory over Chicoutimi. Bear once again stepped up with a goal and an assist, continuing an outstanding tournament run as he prepares to play the final game of his junior career. The more I watch Carter Bear, the more I believe he checks some of the most important boxes Detroit has been missing. Skill matters — but grit, passion, physicality, and compete level matter too. Bear brings energy every shift, creates chaos around the net, stands up for teammates, and has already shown chemistry playing alongside highly skilled players. DuPont scores twice in return, Silvertips rout Sagueneens 6-1 to advance to 2026 Memorial Cup Final -
Kelowna, B.C.- The Everett Silvertips will play for the Memorial Cup in the club's first-ever appearance at the tournament. Projected top 2027 NHL Draft pick Landon DuPont scored twice in his return to the lineup to seal a 6-1 win, while netminder Anders Miller denied 25 of 26 opportunities for a .962 save percentage. "In a game like this when you win or go home," DuPont said postgame. "No guy in that room wanted to go home. I think we did a good job showing up and just mentally... It's not hard getting up from your nap and heading to this game. It's pretty cool." As the teams settled into a nervy first period, alternate captain Jaxsin Vaughan drew first blood as the 'Tips capitalized on a costly Chicoutimi turnover. Lukas Kaplan stole the puck inside the Sagueneens blueline and immediately put it up to a lone Vaughan for a point-blank shot in the slot that was destined for the top corner. https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2060535392949194867 Utah Mammoth Thomas

Memorial Cup: Saguenéens suffer semi-final loss -
The 2025-26 season is over for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Yanick Jean’s squad was defeated 6-1 by the Everett Silvertips in the Memorial Cup semi-final on Friday night. After a cautious start in which both teams were feeling each other out and looking to avoid mistakes, the game suddenly produced three goals in a six-minute span. Jaxsin Vaughan opened the scoring at 7:56 following a defensive-zone miscue involving Emmanuel Vermette and Tomas Lavoie. Lavoie redeemed himself in spectacular fashion at 12:01. He collected the puck at the left point, cut in to the left of goaltender Anders Miller, and beat him with a precise shot on the short side. However, less than two minutes later, Landon Dupont restored the Silvertips’ lead. The second period belonged to the WHL champions, who scored three goals. Carter Bear at 5:39, Zackary Shantz at 12:35, and Dupont with his second of the game at 18:38 put the contest out of reach for the Sags. Everett added a sixth goal just 45 seconds into t

2026 Memorial Cup Head to Head: Miller, Beckman looking for brick-wall performances -
Kelowna, B.C.- Eminem's 'Lose Yourself' is a perennial pregame anthem blasted in hockey rinks around the world- including Prospera Place in Kelowna. While netminders Anders Miller and Lucas Beckman have one opportunity, they'll surely face more than one shot in the 2026 Memorial Cup Semifinal on Friday night. It's all about the goaltenders with a berth in the title match against the Kitchener Rangers on the line. 2026 Memorial Cup Semi-Final Player to Watch: Matias Vanhanen, Everett Silvertips -
Kelowna, B.C.- In December of 2025, Silvertips Head Coach Steve Hamilton knew it was time for a talk with rookie forward Matias Vanhanen. Heading into the holiday break, the youngster had shown tremendous ability in his first season of hockey in North America, but his point totals were looking a little lopsided with seven goals and 37 assists. "We were just noticing early on- powerplays, especially- he was reluctant to shoot," Hamilton explained. "Everybody does their homework and does the pre-scout, and suddenly they're just taking away his passing options, and then as soon as he started to turn the corner and go downhill looking to shoot as well, now you can't just assume that he's passing, and it's made him even more valuable, more dangerous on the ice. He has a heck of a shot, you know. It's just trusting it. He's got all the weapons he needs. I think a lot of it is just mindset, too. 2026 NHL Entry Draft – T McGee’s Seven Round Mock -
We’re under a month away from the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, and it’s time to take a peek at some of the players that could fall to the Buffalo Sabres. Here’s a bumper seven-rounder from T McGee for your weekend reading. DBTB – A Seven Round Mock Draft? In this economy? Actually, I can’t stand that line, so let’s just say it was originally a Five Rounder but with inflation, it’s now Seven. Not that anyone noticed. No, all people want to talk about is the Sabres breaking the playoff drought…the Sabres winning a playoff series…almost winning a second one? Losing in OT in Game 7? That sounds about right. Doesn’t anyone care about the children? Seriously though, I appreciate that maybe, maybe, the days of worrying for weeks and months about who the Sabres will draft is past. As fans, we have bigger fish to fry. And honestly, I loved every second of the playoff run. But I, even in the thick of

Could Detroit Draft Carter Bear’s PERFECT Linemate? | Vanhanen’s Stock is EXPLODING -
The chemistry between Carter Bear and Matias Vanhanen was on full display once again as the Everett Silvertips shut out the Kelowna Rockets 4-0 at the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna. Vanhanen continued his incredible playoff run with another huge performance, scoring a goal and adding an assist while being named the game’s first star. After exploding for 12 goals and 12 assists during Everett’s WHL playoff run, Vanhanen now has 3 goals and 1 assist in just 3 Memorial Cup games. And here’s the crazy part… Last year, when Carter Bear was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round, Matias Vanhanen went completely undrafted. That won’t happen again. At this point, NHL scouts and general managers around the league are absolutely paying attention, and there’s a real chance Vanhanen is gone long before Detroit’s later picks. But IF he’s still available when the Red Wings step to the podium at pick #47 in the second round, should Steve Yzerman take the chance? Because the potential her

However, the Silvertips wouldn't give up a single goal, much less a lump of coal. The shorthanded Silvertips came out flying with a 4-0 over the Rockets to advance to the 2026 Memorial Cup semifinal. Everett has not lost consecutive games in 2025-26. Anders Miller denied all 28 shots he faced for his first Memorial Cup shutout and his sixth clean sheet of the 2025-26 season. "I feel like all the support I had going for this game has just, like, helped me motivate myself to come in there and just kind of play my game, trust my game," Miller said postgame. Matias Vanhanen and Kayd Ruedig each recorded a goal and an assist in the victory. Already entering the tournament without the services of team captain and Anaheim Ducks defensive prospect Tarin Smith, the Silvertips were also without

2026 Memorial Cup Head-to-Head: former Broncos teammates Gould and Kettles face off in round-robin finale -
Kelowna, B.C.- They're a long way from Speedy Creek, but former Swift Current Broncos Peyton Kettles and Rylan Gould are ready to get out of the stable and onto the ice with their new clubs at the 2026 Memorial Cup. The pair suited up for parts of three seasons with the Broncos before Gould was traded to the Everett Silvertips and Kettles was acquired by the Kelowna Rockets three games into the 2025-26 season. Kettles, 18, missed the bulk of the campaign with a shoulder injury that required surgery, but recovered in time to skate in the host squad's Memorial Cup-opening game. The 6-foot-6, 198-pound rearguard also signed his entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in November after being selected with the 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Kelowna, B.C.- The stage is set, and the stakes are high. Kelowna alternate captain Tij Iginla and his Rockets need a win against the Everett Silvertips to keep their season alive. From there, the sky is the limit. "It's do or die," Iginla said Wednesday morning. "We've just got to have our best game and put our best foot forward and come together as a group and get a big win." The Rockets feel they've built some momentum coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Sunday. Iginla and alternate captain Mazden Leslie scored for the home side in the hotly contested affair. As a 16-year-old, Tomas Lavoie was considered by most the top prospect available at the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft. It was the first time Lavoie spoke to the men who would eventually help lead him to a Gilles-Courteau Trophy. “I had a really good feeling about them when we met back then, and I really liked the vibe that they were giving me and the things they were saying,” Lavoie said of a Saguenéens organization that was building itself back into contention. “To be with them this year, it's even more special. Silvertips drop 6-2 decision to OHL’s Kitchener Rangers in Memorial Cup bout -

FROM FIRST PIECE TO LAST LAP – Emmanuel Vermette’s long road to victory -
In the Summer of 2021, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens were ready to turn the page on a couple of seasons that featured both impressive successes and constant setbacks. With the cloak of the pandemic covering everything, the organization took its first step back to the top by investing its first pick in that year’s Draft – second round, 35th overall – on a kid who, like the rest of that year’s class of prospects, barely saw the ice over the previous year. That kid was Emmanuel Vermette. Now, the 21-year-old young man reflects on five seasons of growth in a blue and white sweater, how it all began, and how he got what he needed in taking those first tricky steps into the world of major junior hockey. “For me, as a power forward coming in at 16, not having played the season before, it was hard,” Vermette recalls. “It took me a bit more time than some others to adapt and be able to play my game. Sagueneens ground Rockets in overtime at Memorial Cup -
Kelowna, B.C.- The Kelowna Rockets brought the physicality and the opportunities, but found themselves grounded by the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Memorial Cup on Sunday night. Utah Mammoth prospect Tij Iginla earned Kelowna's first goal of the tournament, while Josh Banini made 26 saves in his tournament debut. Bolstered by a feverish crowd, Kelowna imposed its will on the Sagueneens through the early goings, but the team had had its apparent first goal of the tournament- a low wrister from Shane Smith- called off due to goaltender interference. Chicoutimi got a taste of the same disappointment after the QMJHL Champs had a goal of their own disallowed due to a hand pass, but broke through for real after a failed pinch saw Liam Lefebvre fly down the ice on a breakaway to fake and bury a backhand shot. Kelowna, B.C.- The Kelowna Rockets and Chicoutimi Sagueneens are ready to hit the Prospera Place ice in search of their first win of the 2026 Memorial Cup. While one team will be reduced to prey, the battle features at least two Predators. Rockets forward Hiroki Gojsic and Sagueneens defenceman Alex Huang both call the Nashville Predators organization home. Gojsic, 20, was tapped by the Preds with the 94th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound winger has collected 60 goals and 68 assists for 128 points in 184 games over parts of three seasons in Kelowna and averaged a career-best .75 points per game in 2025-26. He also added a goal and two assists in nine games in the 2026 WHL Playoffs, with his lone tally coming as part of a massive Rockets comeback for a 4-3 overtime win against the eventual-WHL Champion Silvertips in Game 4. Gojsic, from Langley, B.C., put pen to paper on his entry-level deal with Nashville back in the

2026 Memorial Cup Game 3 Player to Watch: Vojtech Cihar, Kelowna Rockets -
Kelowna, B.C.- The 2026 Memorial Cup features one of the most impressive classes of import players the CHL has seen in years, and Kelowna Rockets forward Vojtech Cihar is certainly one to watch. In the past year, Cihar has gone from hearing his name called at the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles, where he was selected by the Kings themselves, to a lackluster start in the Czech Extraliga, a breakout performance at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, a fresh start in the Okanagan, and now, a chance to play for one of the most coveted trophies in the sporting world. "It's kind of crazy, I know," Cihar said. "I'm just trying to live my life and try to try to, like, be the best in every team I will be in." Cihar had just eight points (4G-4A) in 27 games with HC Energie Karlovy Vary before World Juniors, and the Rockets had acquired his rights in a blockbuster trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes (a move that also saw veteran Shane Smith make tracks for B.C.). Memorial Cup lookback: Rockets defend home ice with franchise-first Memorial Cup -
Kelowna, B.C.- Twenty-two years after the Kelowna Rockets won the Memorial Cup on home ice, memories of the Cinderella run still echo throughout Prospera Place. So much has changed, but so much is the same. The old scoreboard has been replaced by a sleek, high-tech jumbotron, then-captain Josh Gorges is behind the bench and alumni like Shea Weber are in the stands, rather than on the ice, but the passion never left. It feels like yesterday that a sold-out crowd nearly took the roof off the joint during the anthems alone, amping up netminder Kelly Guard with a rousing 'On GUARD for thee' during O Canada. Back on May 23, 2004, Guard was near-unassailable in the Memorial Cup final, a 2-1 win over the QMJHL Champion Gatineau Olympiques. Guillaume Fornier put Gatineau ahead on a third-period powerplay strike, but the Rockets mustered a comeback for ages. Just over three minutes later, Randall Gelech found the equalizer by snapping a rebound past David Tremblay and th

MAN OF CULTURE – Yanick Jean’s returned to the top full of learning experiences -
When Yanick Jean returned home to Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean 12 seasons ago to assume the role of Head Coach and General Manager of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, bringing a championship back to the region was obviously the top priority. After all, Jean knows the feeling all too well. He was a defenseman with the 1994 squad, the last Sags club that won a championship. Until around a week ago, that was one of only two Chicoutimi clubs to emerge from the QMJHL as title holders. Does Jean see any similarities between the club he toiled on the back end for and the one he cultivated on draft floors, in trade talks and behind the bench? “The chemistry is very similar,” Jean confirms. “Once you win, you’re brothers for life.” For Jean, the talent he currently has assembled in Chicoutimi is obvious to anyone who has ever watched a game or read a stat sheet. But it’s the atmosphere around this group that the 50-year-old from Alma, Quebec has worked particularly hard at nurturing as the Saguen

Carter Bear’s CONTROVERSIAL Hit Sparks Debate | Brent Solomon Wins The Clark Cup! | 7 Minute Wings -
The future of the Detroit Red Wings keeps getting more interesting. Carter Bear scored the GAME WINNING GOAL for the Everett Silvertips in their Memorial Cup opener as Everett defeated Chicoutimi 5-3. But the biggest talking point may have been the massive hit Bear delivered moments earlier — a play many fans and analysts believe should have resulted in a penalty. I’ll break down the hit, the controversy surrounding it, and why THIS is exactly the kind of player so many Red Wings fans are asking for right now. Bear plays with an edge. He competes hard, finishes checks, creates chaos, and changes momentum physically. Love it or hate it, this type of intensity is something Detroit has been missing. I’ll also congratulate Brent Solomon and the Sioux Falls Stampede after winning the Clark Cup Championship in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 double overtime victory. Solomon scored in the championship game and finished the postseason with 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points in 14 playoff games. An

Silvertips down Chicoutimi Sagueneens 5-3 in Memorial Cup debut -
Kelowna, B.C.- The Everett Silvertips can add another first to their historic 2025-26 season. Veteran forward Jesse Heslop picked up a goal and an assist as the WHL Champions defeated the QMJHL-winning Chicoutimi Sagueneens 5-3 in their Memorial Cup-opening match on Saturday night. Fittingly, it was the longest-serving active Silvertip, Heslop, who scored the team's first-ever goal at the tournament. The Nanaimo, B.C. product got the cowbells rattling just 1:14 into the period with a no-look backhand shot that fooled Ottawa Senators prospect Lucas Beckman. "Jesse's a fabric guy around here and has been for a long time," 2026 WHL Coach of the Year Steve Hamilton said postgame. "Probably some symbolism in that. He's been here, he's been through some playoff disappointments, so obviously the year is special for him as well as the rest of the group." https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2058357972070445192 The Silvertips buzzed as they outshot the Sagueneens 8-0 through

Memorial Cup: the Saguenéens start with a loss -
Six days after capturing the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens opened their Memorial Cup tournament Saturday night with a 5-3 loss to the Everett Silvertips, champions of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The game got off to a rough start for the Saguenéens, as Jesse Heslop gave the Silvertips a 1-0 lead just 74 seconds into the contest. Christophe Berthelot responded eight minutes later, pouncing on a rebound from an Alexis Bernier shot. Then, at 5:39 of the second period, Alex Huang gave the Sags a 2-1 lead with a laser of a shot that beat goaltender Anders Miller over the right shoulder. But just 33 seconds later, Lukas Kaplan tied the game on a shot from the left wing that Lucas Beckman — beaten under the left arm — would likely want back. That goal proved to be the turning point of the game in Everett’s favour. The Silvertips increased the pressure and, at 13:55 and 14:45, scored twice in a span of 50 seconds to take a 4-2 lead. He's the first defenceman aged 16 or younger to hit 50 points in their rookie season since Hockey Hall-of-Famer Scott Niedermayer in 1989-90. Kelowna, B.C.- Julius Miettinen and Alexis Bernier first crossed paths on one of the biggest days of their lives. Miettinen, a beefy centreman from Helsinki, Finland, had burst onto the WHL scene with 31 goals in his first season with the Everett Silvertips. Seattle snapped him up with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the NHL Draft. In the third round, at 73rd overall, shutdown defenceman Bernier followed. "We had like a little family party afterwards," Miettinen recalled. "He's a good guy and a good player." Rockets deliver physical gusto, but fall to Kitchener Rangers in Memorial Cup opener -
Kelowna, B.C.- The 2026 Memorial Cup opener delivered heavy hits, ground-shaking tilts, and, ultimately, a 5-0 win for the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers over the host Kelowna Rockets. Five different skaters lit the ramp for the Blueshirts, while San Jose Sharks prospect Christian Kirsch posted a 23-save shutout in front of a sold-out crowd at Prospera Place. Pittsburgh Penguins defensive prospect Peyton Kettles made his return to the Rockets lineup after missing more than six months after undergoing shoulder surgery. The Rockets' blueline got another shakeup as alternate captain and 2025 WHL Defenceman of the Year finalist Mazden Leslie made his Memorial Cup debut at forward. Dylan Edwards, who finished third in the OHL Playoffs goals race with 14 tucks, logged the first goal of the tournament just under five minutes into the first period when a Carson Campbell shot ricocheted off the back boards and onto his stick, where he ripped it off the shoulder of Boettiger

TRUE BLUE – The Sags’ journey to the 2026 Memorial Cup -
With the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota set to kick off on Friday night in Kelowna, British Columbia, the field that began with 61 CHL clubs in September has been whittled down to four. This year’s QMJHL representatives, the 2026 Gilles-Courteau Trophy Champion Chicoutimi Saguenéens, join the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers, WHL title holder Everett Silvertips and host Kelowna Rockets in a final battle for junior hockey supremacy. The Saguenéens entered the season as strong championship contenders this year as Head Coach and GM Yanick Jean and his staff methodically built a well-balanced nucleus over a five-season span. The first addition to this building process, back in 2021, was current Sags captain Emmanuel Vermette. As the club began its climb up the standings, it also drafted or acquired top-end talent in the form of this season’s League MVP Maxim Massé, two-way forward Christophe Berthelot and, through a trade in the middle of the 2022-23 campaign, offensively gif
