2026 Montreal Canadiens Top 25 Under 25: The Projects (42-35) -
Introduction Getting closer to the top players in the organization, we find a group that is neither on a track to play in the NHL nor appearing hopeless to do so. These prospects have generally performed better than those we just discussed as Long Shots, with a larger base of skills to work with. Three of the players are from the 2026 NHL Draft class, but there is an equal number of off-season additions for the Laval Rocket. In both cases, they are new players to the project, which tends to make it hard to place them above players we have a few years of experience with. The two returnees in this section moved up from the last year, and some of the newcomers could experience something similar in their future. #42 Parker Trottier Forward – 18 – Regina Pats (WHL)

NHL Prospect Watch: Minnesota Wild -
In the lead-up to the 2026-27 hockey season, we’re diving into the WHL prospect pool for every NHL team. To be included in this list, a player must be recently drafted, signed to an NHL contract, or meet the NHL’s criteria for rookie status. The Powerhouse Minnesota Wild's contingent includes a pair of WHL Goaltender of the Year finalists who have already inked their first pro deals. Caedan Bankier Twenty-three-year-old Caedan Bankier showed he was about more than just points in 2025-26. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound centreman notched 20 points (10G-10A) on an Iowa Wild team that struggled to score, but he did tie for sixth in goals among Wild skaters, while nabbing two game winners and converting three of five shootout attempts. While Iowa just missed out on the AHL playoffs, Bankier did earn a one-year, two-way contract that will take effect in 2026-27. 2026 Montreal Canadiens Top 25 Under 25: Graduates, departures, and newcomers -
Introduction The Montreal Canadiens surprised everyone with a late-season run to just squeak into the playoffs in 2024-25, claiming their berth on the final day of the season. Last year, there was no such drama surrounding a playoff spot. A fairly weak schedule to begin the season allowed them to build an early cushion, helpful when some goaltending issues led to a poor month of November. Montreal knocked off the two Atlantic teams that had finished above them, requiring seven games in each series. They arrived to the third round having played six more games than the Carolina Hurricanes, and after a commanding win in Game 1 their play rapidly declin

How Flyers starting goalies have historically fared in their second season -
When he was signed last season, nobody could’ve fathomed how big of an impact Dan Vladar had on the Flyers. Originally considered to be competition for Sam Ersson, Vladar worked his way into a long-term extension while also making Ersson quite disposable. He was remarkable in year one. Now, that year is over and done with, and the second year is all that matters. Over their history there have been 67 Flyer goaltenders. But there have only been a select few to have essentially been the proverbial number one in their first two full seasons with the club. While not going back to the start of the franchise, we’re going to take a look at roughly the last three decades, and how these seven netminders looked in the second year of the tenure with Philadelphia. Buffalo Sabres Open Thread, Wk of 7/27 -
Is Buffalo’s Inactivity Due to Lack of Trying? I doubt GMJK is sitting on his hands at this point but it sure does feel like it. The fans never got that big trade that seemed to be looming before the draft. We are now in the slowest point of the NHL’s year but trades still go down occasionally. Sabres rumors have died down too, even though a few have the team linked to kicking the tires on Kirill Marchenko of the Blue Jackets. He would be a huge addition to the team and an instant Alex Tuch replacement. He would also be costly. I’m guessing at least three good assets, with one of the young trio of forwards being involved, surely. The calendar is about to flip to August and we all know what that means, Blue and Gold fans. That’s right, the friggin’ rent or mortgage is almost due and the monthy bills follow soon after. Were you expecting a formal invite to the Buffalo Sabres’ team BBQ?

Elick was also named an alternate captain in his first full season with the Ams after being dealt from the Brandon Wheat Kings in a blockbuster trade in 2024-25. Drafted with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Elick signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Columbus in March of 2025.
