Episode 54: Defensive Discourse | Tri-State Hockey Podcast -
Jonny Lazarus, Arthur Staple, and Mike Rupp are back for Episode 54 of the Tri-State Hockey Podcast to debate some of the biggest questions surrounding the Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and the Metropolitan Division heading into the 2026-27 NHL season. The guys react to the NHL Network’s Top 20 defensemen rankings, including Adam Fox being left outside the top 10, Matthew Schaefer landing at No. 7, Lane Hutson’s rise, Evan Bouchard, Charlie McAvoy, and more. Then, they break down Jason Demers’ early Metro Division predictions and give their own 1-through-8 rankings, debating where the New York Rangers and Islanders stack up against the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Plus, the crew answers your voicemails, including whether Dylan Larkin could be a fit with the Devils, what Detroit could possibly get back in a trade, whether Quinn Hughes would give New Jersey or Minnesota the better Sta

Contract Details, Tennis for 98, USA Goalies, Vegas’ New Logo, and Other Blackhawks Bullets -
The marvelous Sean McIndoe dropped a fresh edition of his Red Light Newsletter at The Athletic on Thursday. There wasn’t a lot of Blackhawks-specific content in it, but there was some fascinating and valuable minutiae in it that is worth sharing. McIndoe was asked if offer sheets could include other elements, specifically a no-trade or no-move clause. The answer to that is yes. Even if an offer sheet does not include one, the player can’t be traded for a full year if the initial team matches. But offer sheets can afford a player that option. Which brings us to his next point, which brought up Connor Bedard‘s new contract with the Blackhawks.

What Is Going On With Axel Sandin Pellikka? | Red Wings Have a Bigger Plan for ASP -
Friday livestream on my other channel https://www.youtube.com/live/CTHSuTsEhH0?si=YJpkaqM1fvVo5OFL What is going on with Axel Sandin Pellikka — and should Red Wings fans be concerned about his future in Detroit? A viewer recently raised the question after ASP was sent to Grand Rapids following 63 games with the Red Wings last season. With a logjam developing on the right side of Detroit’s defense, it’s fair to wonder exactly where Sandin Pellikka fits. But I think we need to look at the MUCH bigger picture. ASP just turned 21 in March and is entering only his second season in North America. He remains one of Detroit’s most intriguing young defensemen, and his offensive upside from the blue line could be enormous. Yes, there’s competition. Yes, there are areas of his game that still need to develop. But sending a 21-year-old defenseman to Grand Rapids doesn’t necessarily mean the organization is moving away from him — development isn’t always a straight line. Today on 7 Minute Win

If you’ve seen some of the clips I’ve shared here from Instagram over the past couple months, Frondell has been hard at work in a few places in Europe with other Swedish players getting ready for the coming season. Blackhawks Trade Tree(s) Tuesday: From Andrew Shaw to Bowen Byram -
When the Chicago Blackhawks drafted an undersized, overage Andrew Shaw in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, there wasn’t a lot of thought about him becoming an important part of two Stanley Cup championship teams and a fan favorite. You usually don’t find those guys falling to the 139th overall selection. But Shaw became that guy, authoring some iconic moments that included a header and loving shin pads. He emerged as a guy the Blackhawks needed at a time when they didn’t have a lot coming up thru the organization to help sustain their core. Shaw was eventually traded to the Canadiens, and then he became one of the guys who was brought back to the organization for a second run by Stan Bowman. That didn’t play out as well as anyone h

Simon Edvinssonin sopimusneuvottelut ovat pysähtyneet, sillä Detroit Red Wingsillä ei ole tällä hetkellä lainkaan GM:ää. Bobby Clarke turns 80: The best and worst of the Flyers icon -
On Aug. 13, 1946, Robert Earle Clarke was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba. He battled the odds, overcame diabetes, and became the face of the Philadelphia Flyers for the better part of the first half of the franchise’s roughly 60-year history. He’s also the only Flyers captain to lead the team to Stanley Cup, and leads the team in games (for now), assists, points, short-handed goals, and even plus/minus (+507). But for all of his greatness on the ice while playing for the club, there were also some miscues when he went from the ice to the front office. So, on the Hall of Famer’s 80th birthday, let’s look back at three of the best things Clarke did for the Flyers. And, on the other side of the coin, three of the things a lot of people would probably like to forget.

Moritz Seider & Lucas Raymond: The Red Wings’ Foundation Going Forward? -
The next Detroit Red Wings GM will inherit plenty of difficult decisions — but Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond could make two of them pretty easy. Both young stars are receiving recognition around the hockey world. Seider was recently named the Top Defensive Defenseman by The Hockey News, while Raymond was ranked the #20 winger by NHL Network. Today on 7 Minute Wings, I’m taking a closer look at what that recognition says about both players — and why I believe Seider and Raymond could be two cornerstone pieces for whoever takes over in Detroit. There are plenty of questions surrounding the direction of this roster, but these are two players the next GM may have an opportunity to build around for years to come. Are Seider and Raymond the foundation of the next era of Red Wings hockey? If you were the new GM, would these be the first two players you build around? NCAA DIV I Hockey Programs: https://www.collegehockeyinc.com/mens-teams-and-conferences/ CHL.CA https://chl.ca The landscape of junior hockey has changed — and the impact is becoming impossible to ignore. DuPont is leaving Everett for the University of Michigan in his pre-draft season. If he ultimately becomes the first overall pick in the NHL Draft, we could see a second consecutive year in which a potential No. 1 selection left the CHL for the NCAA before being drafted. But DuPont is only part of the story. Five of Everett’s seven leading scorers from last season are heading to the NCAA. That raises a much bigger question: Is the CHL simply losing players — or is it beginning to lose some of its best and most important players? We’ll look at what happened in Everett, what it coul

David Carle & Red Wings Talk | Morning Cuppa Hockey -
On this summer edition of Morning Cuppa Hockey, Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen are joined by Denver Pioneers head coach David Carle for a wide-ranging conversation on the future of college hockey. Carle discusses constantly being linked to NHL coaching openings, why he remains committed to Denver, how he handles those rumours with his players and administration, and the family culture the Pioneers have built. They dive into Carle’s proposal to overhaul the NCAA recruiting calendar, age-based eligibility changes, the ideal number of games for a college hockey season, experimenting with Thursday and Friday games, growing hockey in the United States through the NCAA, his own future in the sport, and how Denver continues to recruit and develop elite talent. After the interview, Jonny and Colby break down Denver’s player development and sports science model, the problems with recruiting players too young, whether college hockey needs a commissioner, the disappearance of NHL bridge deals and

What Steve Yzerman Is Leaving Behind in Detroit | The Red Wings’ Next GM Has a Head Start -
Steve Yzerman may be on his way out, but the Detroit Red Wings organization he leaves behind looks very different from the one he inherited in 2019. When Yzerman took over, Detroit was facing what amounted to a near-total teardown. Today, only Dylan Larkin and Michael Rasmussen remain in the organization from the roster Yzerman inherited. In this episode of 7 Minute Wings, I’m looking beyond the wins, losses and playoff drought and focusing specifically on the players Yzerman drafted and developed during his tenure. Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, Simon Edvinsson and an increasingly important group of young players and prospects could give Detroit’s next general manager something Yzerman largely didn't have when he arrived: a foundation already in place. That doesn’t mean the rebuild is finished. It doesn’t erase the mistakes that were made. But as the Red Wings continue their search for their next GM/President, I think it’s worth asking what that person will actually inherit. Is Detroit

Friday Florida Panthers Offseason Caterwaul -
The Florida Panthers fell from fourth to eighth in The Athletic’s yearly NHL contract efficiency rankings. Dom Luszczyszyn had this to say about the Cats, who still received an A- grade after a tough, injury-riddled season: The Panthers are still in the top 10 after a rough year, but don’t rank as highly as they once did. Age, injuries and some recent extensions signed that were just fair (Eetu Luostarinen, Niko Mikkola) play a role, but it has more to do with the rest of the league catching up than anything. Florida’s average positive value and total surplus are both nearly identical to last season; other teams have just begun to score higher. A return to form for the team as a whole should help Florida’s standing going into next season, but the relative age of everyone means it’s not exactly a given. With the rest of the East on
