Charlie Elick Six-foot-4, 205-pound defender Charlie Elick's bread and butter is his shutdown defensive play. The 20-year-old had one of his best offensive campaigns in the WHL with a six-goal, 14-assist run in 63 games with the Tri-City Americans. Elick was also named an alternate captain in his first full season with the Ams after being dealt from the Brandon Wheat Kings in a blockbuster trade in 2024-25. Drafted with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Elick signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Columbus in March of 2025. Oil Kings equipment manager Dean accepts role with NHL’s Edmonton Oilers -
Edmonton, Alta. – The Edmonton Oil Kings announced today that long-time Head Equipment Manager Rogan Dean has taken a new position with the Edmonton Oilers as an Assistant Equipment Manager. Dean, from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., is the longest serving staff member of the Oil Kings, having been with the club for the entirety of the team’s 19-year modern history, joining the club in 2007 when the team rejoined the Western Hockey League as a volunteer trainer’s assistant, before taking the full time Head Equipment Manager position the next season. McSweeney’s WHL Community Collective: Edmonton Oil Kings -
Tucked into a densely treed area just off Range Road 32 is the Duffield School. The Kindergarten-Grade 9 school's body of 285 students is nearly five times the population of the hamlet of Duffield. It's a lively hub for kids living in rural communities, and though it's small, its heart certainly outpaces its size. In early March, Oil Kings defencemen Rhys Pederson and Austin Zemlak made the 64-kilometre voyage to spend a day reading books to eager students. “I still remember how happy I was when I got to interact with junior hockey players as a young kid,” Pederson, who hails from Stettler, Alta., reminisced. "I have absolutely no doubt that going to these smaller communities leaves a lasting impact on the kids for a long time." One week later, it was the students hitting the road for the Oil Kings' annual Hockey Hooky Game. More than 17,600 people from 135 schools as far away as Grande Prairie packed Rogers Arena for the marquee match, which saw the Oil Kings defeat the Wenatche
