Vanhasen toisen erän alussa tekemä 3-0-johtomaali syntyi huikealla tavalla. Silvertips blank Rockets, advance to 2026 Memorial Cup semifinal -
Kelowna, B.C.- It was Christmas in May at Prospera Place with an all-colour jersey matchup between the Kelowna Rockets and Everett Silvertips in the Memorial Cup round-robin finale. However, the Silvertips wouldn't give up a single goal, much less a lump of coal. The shorthanded Silvertips came out flying with a 4-0 over the Rockets to advance to the 2026 Memorial Cup semifinal. Everett has not lost consecutive games in 2025-26. Anders Miller denied all 28 shots he faced for his first Memorial Cup shutout and his sixth clean sheet of the 2025-26 season. "I feel like all the support I had going for this game has just, like, helped me motivate myself to come in there and just kind of play my game, trust my game," Miller said postgame. Matias Vanhanen and Kayd Ruedig each recorded a goal and an assist in the victory. Already entering the tournament without the services of team captain and Anaheim Ducks defensive prospect Tarin Smith, the Silvertips were also without

2026 Memorial Cup Head-to-Head: former Broncos teammates Gould and Kettles face off in round-robin finale -
Kelowna, B.C.- They're a long way from Speedy Creek, but former Swift Current Broncos Peyton Kettles and Rylan Gould are ready to get out of the stable and onto the ice with their new clubs at the 2026 Memorial Cup. The pair suited up for parts of three seasons with the Broncos before Gould was traded to the Everett Silvertips and Kettles was acquired by the Kelowna Rockets three games into the 2025-26 season. Kettles, 18, missed the bulk of the campaign with a shoulder injury that required surgery, but recovered in time to skate in the host squad's Memorial Cup-opening game. The 6-foot-6, 198-pound rearguard also signed his entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in November after being selected with the 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft. "It's definitely been a long journey, painful too, but just super excited to be able to be on this team and play in the tournament with the guys," Kettles said after Kelowna's match against Kit

2026 Memorial Cup Game 6 Player to Watch: Tij Iginla, Kelowna Rockets -
Kelowna, B.C.- The stage is set, and the stakes are high. Kelowna alternate captain Tij Iginla and his Rockets need a win against the Everett Silvertips to keep their season alive. From there, the sky is the limit. "It's do or die," Iginla said Wednesday morning. "We've just got to have our best game and put our best foot forward and come together as a group and get a big win." The Rockets feel they've built some momentum coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on Sunday. Iginla and alternate captain Mazden Leslie scored for the home side in the hotly contested affair. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound pivot also owns the second-most faceoff wins of any centre at the tournament with 36 in two games (55.4%). https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2058737396871823420 After two tilts against unfamiliar opponents from the OHL and QMJHL, there's plenty of history to draw on between the Rockets and WHL Champion Silvertips. 2026 Memorial Cup Game 6 Player to Watch: Julius Miettinen, Everett Silvertips -
Kelowna, B.C.- WHL Playoffs MVP Julius Miettinen and the Everett Silvertips need to do what they've done all season. Bounce back. The WHL Champions haven't lost back-to-back games in the 2025-26 regular season or playoffs. Now, they need to get back in the saddle against an old foe after falling 6-2 to the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers in Memorial Cup round-robin action. The Tips are going up against the very team they booted from the WHL Playoffs in the second round- the host Kelowna Rockets. Miettinen was a force to be reckoned with in that series, piling up four goals and two assists for six points in five games. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound centreman also won 71 draws against Kelowna for a 55.6% success rate at the dot. https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2043174117738946575 Miettinen, 20, was a force through the postseason with 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points and a +21 rating in 18 games, tying for first in the league in points, sole possession of first in

Rockets’ Smith bringing heart and heroics to final WHL season -
Kelowna, B.C.- When 16-year-old Shane Smith was getting his first reps in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers, he didn't just have championship aspirations. He also wanted to make a difference. "Coming into a bigger community, kind of looking up to Western Hockey League players when I was growing up, knowing the impact that they had on me and that I could have on the same kids... It's really huge for me, and kind of something that's always been with me since day one," Smith said. Indeed, some of Smith's most impressive stats have come off the ice. In 2023-24, his sophomore season, the Cessford, Alta. product led the Tigers with more than 200 volunteer hours. Smith was known for his regular school visits in the Medicine Hat area to speak to students about leadership, goal-setting and mental health- and to grab a stick for some floor hockey games. Memorial Cup: A second loss for the Saguenéens -
The Chicoutimi Saguenéens got off to a strong start, but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday at the Memorial Cup. The Saguenéens therefore conclude the preliminary round with a record of one win and two losses. They will now await the result of Wednesday’s game between the Everett Silvertips (1-1) and the Kelowna Rockets (0-2) before learning their fate. Two scenarios remain possible for the Sags: playing in the tiebreaker game on Thursday, or advancing directly to the semifinal on Friday. As for the Rangers, they have already secured a spot in Sunday’s final thanks to their perfect 3-0 record. The Saguenéens played an excellent first period, limiting the Ontario Hockey League champions to just five shots on Lucas Beckman. However, Kitchener came out flying in the second period, scoring twice in 3:37. Luca Romano opened the scoring at 1:38, and two minutes later, Sam O’Reilly pounced on a rebound from Jack Pridham to make it 2-0. Émile Ricard cut the deficit i

Engineering opportunity: Mattias Uyeda reflects on unlikely rise from Junior ‘B’ to the Memorial Cup -
Kelowna, B.C.- The journey to the Memorial Cup is a winding, arduous one. When it comes to building best-of-the-best teams, General Managers have tinkered and toiled, often for years, developing drafted talent into NHL prospects, scouring other leagues for potential free agents and trading for high-end stars in hopes of capturing their league trophies and getting a shot at the CHL's ultimate prize. But in the 2026 field, no one has had a season quite like Mattias Uyeda. Six months ago, the 19-year-old defenceman was back in his hometown of Vancouver, B.C., working away at his engineering degree at the University of British Columbia and playing for the Richmond Sockeyes of the Pacific Junior Hockey League, a club that has bounced between various tiers of Junior 'B' and 'A' under the BC Hockey umbrella. At 5-foot-11 and 181 pounds, Uyeda hadn't been drafted by a WHL team during his bantam hockey days. Frankly, at this stage, major junior just wasn't on his mind. Bu

Five moments that defined the Everett Silvertips’ season -
Kelowna, B.C.- The 2025-26 season is, undoubtedly, the greatest in Everett Silvertips history. And that's no small feat coming from one of the league's most consistent franchises. While the 'Tips bask in the glow of WHL Championship glory and gear up for their Memorial Cup debut, we're looking back on five key moments that helped make it all possible. A 'Tip' of the hat The Silvertips entered 2025-26 as the reigning regular-season champions, but had designs on winning it all from the get-go. Everett was hot out of the gates with three hat tricks in the first two weeks. After falling behind 3-0 in the second period to the Wenatchee Wild in the season opener, Zackary Shantz bagged his first career hat trick to force a shootout where Shantz, NHL Draft-eligible Matias Vanhanen and Nolan Chastko all lit the lamp to earn a 4-3 comeback win. Kelowna, B.C.- Julius Miettinen's favourite part of hockey? Winning. The Everett Silvertips centreman has done a lot of that lately. Miettinen, 20, is fresh off a statement playoff run that saw him post a league-best 27 points (14G-13A) and a +21 rating in 19 games en route to winning Everett's first WHL Championship and Playoff MVP honours. Miettinen has made WHL history as the first Finnish-born player to earn Playoff MVP honours, and just the second import skater, following former Kelowna Rockets star Leon Draisaitl, who picked up the hardware in 2014. https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2055507179806056470 Now, the 6-foot-4, 207-pound forward is aiming to pick up some points in Everett's second match at the 2026 Memorial Cup. 2026 Memorial Cup Game 4 Player to Watch: Carter Bear, Everett Silvertips -
Kelowna, B.C.- Time to Bear down. Detroit Red Wings prospect Carter Bear comes by his reputation as a quiet leader and fierce competitor honestly. The 19-year-old from Winnipeg, Man., is dialled in with a massive opportunity on the line on Monday night. Everett can secure a berth in the 2026 Memorial Cup championship match with a round-robin win against the OHL title-winning Kitchener Rangers. The Blueshirts have been idle since Friday, when they toppled the host Kelowna Rockets with a 5-0 win. Bear and the Tips are now tasked with trying to become the first team to get the puck past San Jose Sharks goaltending prospect Christian Kirsch, who made 24 saves for the first shutout of the tournament. Everett's top line of Bear, Seattle Kraken prospect Julius Miettinen and NHL Draft-eligible Matias Vanhanen will do their best to make life miserable for Kirsch and the Kitchener defence. Memorial Cup: The Saguenéens win in overtime -
Twenty-four hours after their loss to Everett Silvertips, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens bounced back in the right way and defeated the host Kelowna Rockets, 3-2, in overtime in their second game of the Memorial Cup tournament on Sunday night. Liam Lefebvre played the hero at 5:28 of the overtime period with his second goal of the game. The game carried major importance for both teams. The Saguenéens had dropped a 5-3 decision to Everett on Saturday, while the Rockets had suffered a 5-0 loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Friday. In Memorial Cup history, only one team has ever won the Canadian championship after starting the tournament with two losses: the Windsor Spitfires in 2009. Two goals were disallowed in the first period. The first came from the Rockets after Lucas Beckman was bumped before the puck crossed the goal line. The second was waved off for the Sags because Liam Lefebvre made a hand pass to Nathan Lecompte, who then scored. Lefebvre redeemed himself moments later. H

Sagueneens ground Rockets in overtime at Memorial Cup -
Kelowna, B.C.-  The Kelowna Rockets brought the physicality and the opportunities, but found themselves grounded by the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Memorial Cup on Sunday night. Utah Mammoth prospect Tij Iginla earned Kelowna's first goal of the tournament, while Josh Banini made 26 saves in his tournament debut. Bolstered by a feverish crowd, Kelowna imposed its will on the Sagueneens through the early goings, but the team had had its apparent first goal of the tournament- a low wrister from Shane Smith- called off due to goaltender interference. Chicoutimi got a taste of the same disappointment after the QMJHL Champs had a goal of their own disallowed due to a hand pass, but broke through for real after a failed pinch saw Liam Lefebvre fly down the ice on a breakaway to fake and bury a backhand shot. Kelowna, B.C.- The Kelowna Rockets and Chicoutimi Sagueneens are ready to hit the Prospera Place ice in search of their first win of the 2026 Memorial Cup. While one team will be reduced to prey, the battle features at least two Predators. Rockets forward Hiroki Gojsic and Sagueneens defenceman Alex Huang both call the Nashville Predators organization home. Gojsic, 20, was tapped by the Preds with the 94th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft. 2026 Memorial Cup Game 3 Player to Watch: Vojtech Cihar, Kelowna Rockets -
Kelowna, B.C.- The 2026 Memorial Cup features one of the most impressive classes of import players the CHL has seen in years, and Kelowna Rockets forward Vojtech Cihar is certainly one to watch. In the past year, Cihar has gone from hearing his name called at the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles, where he was selected by the Kings themselves, to a lackluster start in the Czech Extraliga, a breakout performance at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, a fresh start in the Okanagan, and now, a chance to play for one of the most coveted trophies in the sporting world. "It's kind of crazy, I know," Cihar said. "I'm just trying to live my life and try to try to, like, be the best in every team I will be in." Cihar had just eight points (4G-4A) in 27 games with HC Energie Karlovy Vary before World Juniors, and the Rockets had acquired his rights in a blockbuster trade with the Lethbridge Hurricanes (a move that also saw veteran Shane Smith make tracks for B.C.). Carter Bear’s CONTROVERSIAL Hit Sparks Debate | Brent Solomon Wins The Clark Cup! | 7 Minute Wings -
The future of the Detroit Red Wings keeps getting more interesting. Carter Bear scored the GAME WINNING GOAL for the Everett Silvertips in their Memorial Cup opener as Everett defeated Chicoutimi 5-3. But the biggest talking point may have been the massive hit Bear delivered moments earlier — a play many fans and analysts believe should have resulted in a penalty. I’ll break down the hit, the controversy surrounding it, and why THIS is exactly the kind of player so many Red Wings fans are asking for right now. Bear plays with an edge. He competes hard, finishes checks, creates chaos, and changes momentum physically. Love it or hate it, this type of intensity is something Detroit has been missing. I’ll also congratulate Brent Solomon and the Sioux Falls Stampede after winning the Clark Cup Championship in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 double overtime victory. Solomon scored in the championship game and finished the postseason with 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points in 14 playoff games. An

Silvertips down Chicoutimi Sagueneens 5-3 in Memorial Cup debut -
Kelowna, B.C.- The Everett Silvertips can add another first to their historic 2025-26 season. Veteran forward Jesse Heslop picked up a goal and an assist as the WHL Champions defeated the QMJHL-winning Chicoutimi Sagueneens 5-3 in their Memorial Cup-opening match on Saturday night. Fittingly, it was the longest-serving active Silvertip, Heslop, who scored the team's first-ever goal at the tournament. The Nanaimo, B.C. product got the cowbells rattling just 1:14 into the period with a no-look backhand shot that fooled Ottawa Senators prospect Lucas Beckman. "Jesse's a fabric guy around here and has been for a long time," 2026 WHL Coach of the Year Steve Hamilton said postgame. "Probably some symbolism in that. He's been here, he's been through some playoff disappointments, so obviously the year is special for him as well as the rest of the group." https://twitter.com/TheWHL/status/2058357972070445192 The Silvertips buzzed as they outshot the Sagueneens 8-0 through

Memorial Cup: the Saguenéens start with a loss -
Six days after capturing the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens opened their Memorial Cup tournament Saturday night with a 5-3 loss to the Everett Silvertips, champions of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The game got off to a rough start for the Saguenéens, as Jesse Heslop gave the Silvertips a 1-0 lead just 74 seconds into the contest. Christophe Berthelot responded eight minutes later, pouncing on a rebound from an Alexis Bernier shot. Then, at 5:39 of the second period, Alex Huang gave the Sags a 2-1 lead with a laser of a shot that beat goaltender Anders Miller over the right shoulder. But just 33 seconds later, Lukas Kaplan tied the game on a shot from the left wing that Lucas Beckman — beaten under the left arm — would likely want back. That goal proved to be the turning point of the game in Everett’s favour. The Silvertips increased the pressure and, at 13:55 and 14:45, scored twice in a span of 50 seconds to take a 4-2 lead. Kelowna, B.C.- Landon has landed. Sixteen-year-old Everett Silvertips alternate captain Landon DuPont has broken new ground throughout his junior hockey career. He's the first defenceman to be granted exceptional status to play in the WHL full-time as a 15-year-old. 2026 Memorial Cup Head-to-Head: Kraken prospects Miettinen and Bernier go from Vegas draft to Memorial Cup -
Kelowna, B.C.- Julius Miettinen and Alexis Bernier first crossed paths on one of the biggest days of their lives. On June 29, 2024, both young men heard their names echo throughout the cavernous Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the newest members of the Seattle Kraken organization. Miettinen, a beefy centreman from Helsinki, Finland, had burst onto the WHL scene with 31 goals in his first season with the Everett Silvertips. Seattle snapped him up with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the NHL Draft. In the third round, at 73rd overall, shutdown defenceman Bernier followed. "We had like a little family party afterwards," Miettinen recalled. "He's a good guy and a good player." Any rapport the pair have built in the following years will evaporate as they hit the ice for their Memorial Cup debuts on Saturday, as the WHL Champion Silvertips battle the QMJHL-winning Chicoutimi Sagueneens. Rockets deliver physical gusto, but fall to Kitchener Rangers in Memorial Cup opener -
Kelowna, B.C.- The 2026 Memorial Cup opener delivered heavy hits, ground-shaking tilts, and, ultimately, a 5-0 win for the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers over the host Kelowna Rockets. Five different skaters lit the ramp for the Blueshirts, while San Jose Sharks prospect Christian Kirsch posted a 23-save shutout in front of a sold-out crowd at Prospera Place. Pittsburgh Penguins defensive prospect Peyton Kettles made his return to the Rockets lineup after missing more than six months after undergoing shoulder surgery. The Rockets' blueline got another shakeup as alternate captain and 2025 WHL Defenceman of the Year finalist Mazden Leslie made his Memorial Cup debut at forward. Dylan Edwards, who finished third in the OHL Playoffs goals race with 14 tucks, logged the first goal of the tournament just under five minutes into the first period when a Carson Campbell shot ricocheted off the back boards and onto his stick, where he ripped it off the shoulder of Boettiger

TRUE BLUE – The Sags’ journey to the 2026 Memorial Cup -
With the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota set to kick off on Friday night in Kelowna, British Columbia, the field that began with 61 CHL clubs in September has been whittled down to four. This year’s QMJHL representatives, the 2026 Gilles-Courteau Trophy Champion Chicoutimi Saguenéens, join the OHL Champion Kitchener Rangers, WHL title holder Everett Silvertips and host Kelowna Rockets in a final battle for junior hockey supremacy. The Saguenéens entered the season as strong championship contenders this year as Head Coach and GM Yanick Jean and his staff methodically built a well-balanced nucleus over a five-season span. The first addition to this building process, back in 2021, was current Sags captain Emmanuel Vermette. As the club began its climb up the standings, it also drafted or acquired top-end talent in the form of this season’s League MVP Maxim Massé, two-way forward Christophe Berthelot and, through a trade in the middle of the 2022-23 campaign, offensively gif

Prince Albert, Sask. – For the first time in franchise history, the Everett Silvertips are WHL Champions. The Silvertips run to the WHL Championship was a dominant one, beginning with a four-game sweep of the Portland Winterhawks to open the 2026 WHL Playoffs. The second round featured another five-game triumph – this one over the 2026 Memorial Cup-host Kelowna Rockets – and led into a four-game sweep of the expansion Penticton Vees in the WHL’s Western Conference Championship. Through 18 games, the Silvertips went 16-2, including an even 8-1 at home and 8-1 on the road. The impressive postseason came on the heels of a second consecutive Scotty M

Rivals Today… Griffins Teammates Tomorrow? | Bear, VanHanen & Christensen Turning Heads -
The WHL Finals are turning into a fascinating glimpse at the future for the Detroit Red Wings organization. Carter Bear scored the game winning goal as the Everett Silvertips pushed ahead to a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Prince Albert Raiders. Bear continues to show why so many people are excited about his future and why Detroit fans are paying close attention. Meanwhile, Matias VanHanen just keeps producing. Another goal and another assist as his stock continues to rise during this playoff run. If VanHanen is still available when Detroit makes their second round pick, should Steve Yzerman take the swing? His star continues to rise, so there’s no guarantee he’ll still be available at this point. But if he is…. And here’s where things get REALLY interesting… With the new AHL/CHL transfer agreement beginning next season, one 19-year-old player per NHL team can now move directly from the CHL to the AHL. VanHanen would qualify. That means in a wild twist, Carter Bear and Matias Va

We’re consistently getting hits in and doing the things that we do well. “We had more of an attack mentality, played on our toes more. That’s what we did and it worked, so that’s our goal for tonight.” In 16 postseason appearances, the 18-year-old product of Beausejour, Man., has secured 14 points (3G-11A). 2026 WHL Championship – Game 3 Player to Watch: Brock Cripps, Prince Albert Raiders -
Prince Albert, Sask. – It isn’t very often a 16-year-old defenceman carries a heavy load during the WHL Playoffs, but that’s exactly what Brock Cripps is doing for the Prince Albert Raiders. And he’s about to take on more in Game 3 with teammate Daxon Rudolph serving a one-game suspension. Cripps, the rookie from Victoria, B.C., has played an integral role for the Raiders during their postseason run, recording 19 points (4G-15A) in 17 games. “It means a lot to get that trust from all the coaches and just playing that huge role is definitely a lot of responsibility, and I’ve tried to do a good job taking that on,” Cripps said following Game 2. “Hopefully I can keep it going.” The presence of a 16-year-old on the blueline during a WHL Championship isn’t all that unfamiliar in Hockey Town North. In 2019, it was rookie Kaiden Guhle logging important minutes, helping the Raiders to the franchise’s second WHL title. Cripps, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound, right-

With an opportunity to take a series lead in Game 3, Vanhanen will once again be a focal point for the Everett offense. “It’s finals so you just want to win every game,” Vanhanen said prior to Game 3. “We have a good team, that helps a lot. I play with the best players in the league, that’s been awesome, so I just try to enjoy that.” In seven games this spring, Vanhanen has recorded multipoint efforts. Yzerman’s BIG Swing? | Pettersson, Robert Thomas & Alex Tuch are targets, but who will come? -
The Detroit Red Wings need help, and they have a Lot of cap space. With the NHL salary cap jumping from $95.5 million to $104 million dollars next season — the largest dollar increase since the salary cap era began in 2005-06 — Steve Yzerman suddenly has approximately $32 million dollars in projected cap space to work with. The problem? Detroit desperately needs a legitimate top six forward… and ideally a true top six center. In today’s 7 Minute Wings, we break down three major names connected to offseason speculation: 🏒 Alex Tuch 🏒 Robert Thomas 🏒 Elias Pettersson Alex Tuch could become the top UFA target on the market, but would he choose Detroit over Stanley Cup contenders? Robert Thomas feels like the PERFECT fit for the Red Wings… a proven top six center with term remaining on his contract. But his trade protection could make any deal impossible. And then there’s Elias Pettersson. Just a few years ago, Pettersson looked like one of the NHL’s elite centers with 39 goals and 102 po
