Firebirds Name Jimmy Lombardi Captain -
FLINT – The Flint Firebirds and head coach Paul Flache announced on Monday that forward Jimmy Lombardi will be the Firebirds’ captain for the 2026-27 season. Lombardi is now the ninth captain in franchise history, taking the reins from Nathan Aspinall. “Since Jimmy became a Firebird, his competitiveness and work ethic have been second to none,” Flache said. “He leads by example every day, and his relentlessness is contagious. Combine this with the previous leaders who have influenced him, and we are in a great position with Jimmy taking on the captaincy role.” “It means a lot to wear the ‘C’ for Flint,” Lombardi said. “It’s such an honor, and I believe we have a very special group this year.” This will be Lombardi’s fourth season in Flint after being selected 29th overall in the second round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. It will take place before the Firebirds’ home opener on Sept. 26. FLINT - The Flint Firebirds have announced that the organization has signed forward Emry Lowe to a Standard Player Agreement. “It's a dream come true,” Lowe said. “I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to wear the Firebirds jersey. I am excited to work, learn, and earn everything that comes next.” Lowe was selected 57th overall in the third round of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection by Flint. The Brantford, Ontario native played for the Brantford 99ers AAA program. Last season with the U16 99ers, Lowe scored 29 goals and 27 assists in 30 games played. 2026 Panthers Prospect Profile: Cole Zurawski -
The Florida Panthers chose energetic, shoot-first forward Cole Zurawski in the sixth round (181st overall) of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, NY. During his draft season, Zurawski put up 24 goals and 22 assists in 63 games for the Owen Sound Attack during his second OHL campaign after recording 16 goals and 15 assists in his first year in the league, which was split between the Flint Firebirds and Owen Sound. The Attack acquired the then 16-year-old via trade on January 8, 2025. His 24 goals tied him (with Nicholas Sykora) for third most on the team behind Pierce Mbuyi and Tristan Delisle and his 46 points ranked fifth on the middling, but offensively-capable squad. FLINT - The Flint Firebirds announced on Tuesday that they have signed forward Cole Guizzetti to a Standard Player Agreement. “It feels great to sign with the Firebirds organization,” Guizzetti said. “I can’t wait to get the season started.” Guizzetti was drafted by Flint 52nd overall in the third round of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection. The Flint Firebirds and Sarnia Sting announced Friday that the Firebirds have acquired the rights to defenceman Nicholas Bogas from Sarnia in exchange for defenceman Landon Pickersgill and four draft selections. Bogas is a left-handed defenceman who played for the U.S. National Team Development Program last season.
