TORONTO — Ontario Hockey League (OHL) clubs will compete throughout November for the Moustache Cup, a Movember fundraising challenge that crowns the top fundraising team in the OHL and in the Western Hockey League (WHL), with proceeds supporting men’s health programs including Breaking the Ice, a mental fitness program for young hockey players. All 20 OHL clubs will turn the league’s usual competitive edge into a month-long push for men’s health — growing Mos, engaging fans and raising funds for Movember, the leading men’s health charity focused on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. At the end of the month, the top fundraising team in each league will be crowned Moustache Cup champion. The challenge builds on the OHL’s partnership with Movember, announced in September, that brought Breaking the Ice into all 20 OHL clubs. They called them 'Spada Family Road Trips' and they started when Guelph Storm defenceman Grant Spada was five years old. Spada, a draft pick of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, would bundle into the family car with mom Alison, dad Craig and older sister Lauren for the three and a half hour drive to a hospital in Pittsburgh every 21 days for a year. Alison had already had one surgery for her brain cancer in London, but now there were trips to Pittsburgh where she was part of a clinical trial. Two more brain surgeries would follow, one in London and one in Buffalo, plus many hours of radiation plus chemotherapy. "The kids were so young, they just got used to it I guess," says Alison over the phone from her home in Ridgeway, a small town just outside Fort Erie. Her last surgery was in 2018 and Alison hasn't needed another one or spent any time in hospital in eight years. "She's my hero and she's my inspiration," says Grant, 19, who gushes praise when talking about his mom. "All she's

And the Hawks actually flipped their usual script. We’ve talked about the Hawks playing a 55-minute game too often recently, but it’s seemed like the five “missing” minutes are either the end of the first period or the end of the third. Despite blowing a three-goal lead over the Kitchener Rangers, which included a game-tying goal 69 seconds shy of a win, the Guelph Storm managed to come away with two points at the Sleeman Centre Sunday afternoon. The tandem of Ryan Roobroeck and Owen Griffin sent the (mostly) 4,800 Storm fans home happy, with Griffin setting up Roebroeck at the side of the Kitchener net 2:41 into bonus hockey. Roobroeck had a hat trick to lead the Storm and now has 12 goals on the year, tied for tops in the OHL. Griffin finished Sunday with three helpers and currently leads the OHL in assists. Trenten Bennett Stands Tall in 1-0 Win Against the Soo -
FLINT — Jimmy Lombardi’s lone goal pushes the Flint Firebirds to a 1-0 victory over the Soo Greyhounds on Sunday evening at the Dort Financial Center. Trenten Bennett recorded a 29-save shutout in his first home appearance as a Firebird. HOW IT HAPPENED: Lombardi opened the scoring early in the first period on the power play. Nasean Faria picked up a failed zone-clear on the right point and sent the puck over to Lombardi. He dodged a Soo defender and sniped the puck over Greyhound goaltender David Vermirovsky’s glove to put the Birds up 1-0. The second period featured the Firebirds’ power play unit, with two penalties coming from the Soo. Flint tallied 12 shots in the second but couldn’t beat Vermirovsky to lengthen their lead. The Greyhounds recorded eight shots in the second but couldn’t find the back of the net as Trenten Bennett stood strong in net to keep the Birds' lead at 1-0 going into the third period. Byram Skating, Intriguing Visitors, Waiver Interest, and Other Blackhawks Bullets - The Blackhawks took an early lead against Montreal last night and the Canadiens immediately started grabbing, whacking, hitting, shoving and slashing the Hawks all over the ice. And it worked. That’s been the painfully clear book on the Blackhawks this season: Chicago’s speed can be a problem, but they can get bullied. When they get pushed around, they lose focus — and the puck. And when the Blackhawks’ power play is ineffective like last night (0 for 5 is ineffective in my opinion), taking penalties to get in an extra hit isn’t a big deal because the Hawks aren’t going to make their opponent pay for the infraction. The 2028 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota is headed to Québec City and to be hosted by a Remparts franchise filled with tournament history. One of the most iconic clubs across the CHL, both versions of the Remparts have hoisted junior hockey's most valuable trophy. The first iteration of the squad made three appearances and won in 1971 while the present day franchise has titles from 2006 and 2023 and also played in the 2003 and 2015 tournaments. The Blackhawks had a pretty tough practice on Monday, working on a lot of physical battles for about an hour. Head coach Jeff Blashill was vocal during the practice, too. The Blackhawks have had a tough schedule to start the season, but that doesn’t change the fact that they need to start winning games. And a lot of things need to get cleaned up for that to happen against a schedule that really doesn’t get much easier in the coming weeks. Carolina did what they’ve done a lot over the past few years: they hounded the puck all over the ice and pressured anyone who had it into giving it up — and, more times than not, making a mistake in doing so. Islanders ink Storm’s Dravecky to entry-level deal -Vladimir Dravecky of the Guelph Storm has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New York Islanders. A native of Trinec, Czechia, Dravecky has one goal and three assists in four OHL games so far this season. He was selected by the Brantford Bulldogs in the first round, 50th overall, of the 2025 CHL Import Draft, but was traded to the Storm this offseason ahead of their hosting of the 2027 Memorial Cup. In his rookie campaign with Brantford, he recorded nine goals and 19 assists in 58 games to go along with three assists in 11 playoff games. On the international stage, Dravecky has represented both Slovakia and Czechia, but has represented Czechia over the previous three seasons. He won a silver medal at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and a silver medal at the 2026 World Juniors. He was selected by the Islanders in the fifth round, 141st overall, of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.

Yes, the Blackhawks’ season-opening road trip went about as poorly as possible. Yeah, they were more competitive in Buffalo — even without their No. 1 defenseman available. But they lost all three games, looked a hot mess defensively and generated almost no offense in the first two games of the trip. Now, the Hawks come home for a practice late Monday morning before hosting the St. Louis Blues to start the home schedule. It will be more than just another Blackhawks home opener on Tuesday night. It will be the return of Patrick Kane to the ice in the correct jersey. The soon-to-turn 18-year-old goaltender has shut out the opposition in both his games to date, stopping all 44 shots he's faced. The latest came Sunday, a 19-save shutout of the Kitchener Rangers. "It's a lot more fun knowing the boys can put a couple of pucks in the net every night," he said of the team's high-powered offence. Jovanovski said having a talented, veteran team capable of scoring in bunches hasn't changed his approach. "I still approach things the same way. It doesn't matter how the game's going," he said. Kingston, ON - As predicted, the Frontenacs bounced back on Friday night against the Peterborough Petes, winning in a 5-3 fashion. Now, Kingston closes out the weekend hosting the Erie Otters for the only time this season. It was an impressive performance up and down the lineup for the Frontenacs Friday night. Matthew Minchak was great, making 42 saves on 45 shots. André Mondoux and Matthew Henderon both joined the score sheet. Nolan Buttar, Nolan Snyder, and Landon Wright led the way offensively for Kingston in their third win of the season. Sunday, the Frontenacs host a young Otters team that has surprised many to start the season. Topp thrilled to be wearing the ‘C’ as Guelph Storm wins third straight by Tony Saxon -It was hard to tell who was happier, Rowan Topp or his parents Renee and Kevin. The fifth-year Guelph Storm defenceman was named the team captain after the morning skate Friday, and it was promptly followed by a call back to his parents on the family chicken farm in St. Anne's, halfway between Grimsby and Welland, a call captured by the team's social media team. "I think I might take that one, it's something I've been working towards for a while," Topp said when asked who was more excited with the news. "I'm so honoured. It's really amazing. But my parents have been such a huge influence in my life, I couldn't do it without them. My dad as well as my mom taught me about hard work. I'm grateful." Spitfires Hold Off Battalion for First Home Victory The Windsor Spitfires picked up a 3-2 win over the North Bay Battalion on Thursday, marking their first home victory of the season. Windsor came out with force in the opening period, capitalizing on two scoring opportunities, taking a 2-0 lead early on. Shawn Costello opened the scoring at 2:15 with the assist going to Jonathan Brown. Later on in the period, Andrew Robinson scored his first of the season on a shorthanded goal at 17:26 to double the lead. North Bay challenged the Spitfires in the second, scoring their first of the night at 12:29 off a goal from Evgeny Dubrovtsev. The Spitfires however held on to their two-goal lead when Bogdan Yakushevsky scored just over five minutes later to make it 3-1 heading into the third.
