Weekend FTB: Leafs-ish Hockey! -
This weekend marks the return of Leafs hockey! Well, sort of. It's the annual Rookie Tournament, or Prospect Showdown, or Hockey Carnival, whatever it is called now I don't remember. I've been doing this so long I recall it changes names almost every year now. What matters is young prospects some signed and some not will play in Leafs jerseys and we get to watch! How do we watch? Well... that's a good question. These will be streamed by the teams, but the logistics of where you go for that and how good those streams will be is an open question. OUR 18 – Remparts look to continue their ascension -
It’s been a long road back to contention since the Quebec Remparts’ memorable 2023 Memorial Cup triumph. That time is soon arriving, however, with an exciting mix of talent and grit up and down the lineup. The club has leaned heavily on a defense first mentality as its inched its way back up the standings. This year’s Remparts should receive a welcome boost in that regard. Returnees include 2025 Philadelphia Flyers draftee Nathan Quinn and 2026 St. Louis Blues first-rounder Maddox Dagenais. They, along with sophomore Nikita Ovcharov, will be pivotal in all situations up front. Then, there is a group of newcomers who may be among the most explosive in the league this season. James Scantlebury is set to make his much anticipated ‘Q’ debut after being selected ninth overall at the 2025 QMJHL Draft and completing a commitment to the USHL’s Chicago Steel last season. Carter Meyer is aiming to roll into the league much like he rolled over the competition as an offensive leader with the U17
