For as much as Manitoba Moose defenceman Tyrel Bauer does for his teammates on the ice, he does just as much in the community. He was recognized by his teammates during the club’s end-of-season awards and now by the AHL, having been named the winner of the Yanick Dupré Memorial Award as the league’s Man of the Year. Bauer follows former Moose captain Jimmy Oligny, who won the award in 2023, meaning Manitoba has produced two winners in the last four seasons. The only other Moose player to receive the honour was Jimmy Roy in 2003. We caught up with him this afternoon to discuss being recognized by the AHL with this award. Saginaw, Mich.- Spirit GM Dave Drinkill announced Friday morning that the team has signed free agent defenseman Kade Meyer to a Standard Player Agreement. “Kade caught our eye last summer while playing for Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup,” said Drinkill. “He is very strong and plays the game hard with a competitiveness that you can’t teach. Kade skates very well, is extremely mobile, and is a great transporter of pucks up ice. We’re excited that the Meyer family picked Saginaw out of all their options for next season and can’t wait to see Kade on the ice.” A left-shot defenseman from Minocqua, WI, Meyer clocks in at 5’9”, 181lbs. Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor factored on 65 goals together this season, which is the most by any pair of teammates in the NHL. Scheifele became the franchise's points leader in a 4-1 win against the Nashville Predators at Canada Life Centre on Oct. 18, 2025. Well…my off-season here at Arctic Ice Hockey hasn’t began well, as it has almost been 2 weeks since my last article on the site. That lapse in time saw a few things happen involving the Winnipeg Jets organization, including the re-signing of bottom six forward Cole Koepke, the True North club getting unlucky at the Lottery Draft and falling to the 8th overall selection, and the Manitoba Moose being eliminated from the American Hockey League playoffs. All that skipped over because I decided to buy a new game for my XBOX and ended up discovering there was a 2 for 1 sale on. As a result, I have found myself playing a lot of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla & Anno 117: Pax Romana to the detriment of everything else. I wasn’t totally ignoring the hockey world, though I have watched surprisingly little of the playoffs to date. I certainly wasn’t disappointed that GM Kevin C
