Porter Martone looked like he could do no wrong when he joined the Philadelphia Flyers at the end of last season. The rookie put up 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his first nine NHL games, and then scored the game-winning goal in each of his first two postseason contests, finishing the playoffs with five points in 10 games. For more than a decade, Jeff Kyrzakos and Brendan Taylor have been climbing the Ontario Hockey League coaching ranks simultaneously, and now, after years of sharing a bench, developing players and discussing what the future might hold, their journeys have come full circle. Kitchener, Ont. — The Kitchener Rangers announced today that Jeff Kyrzakos has been named the 26th Head Coach in franchise history. Kyrzakos steps into the role after serving as the Rangers’ Associate Coach and Assistant General Manager over the past three seasons. Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit have hired Brendan Taylor as the 11th head coach in team history, General Manager Dave Drinkill announced Wednesday.   “I want to start by welcoming Brendan to Saginaw,” said Drinkill. “He has earned this opportunity through his work ethic and a commitment to hockey. Brendan has worked his way up every step of the coaching ladder – nothing has been handed to him. He’s put in the time, continued to grow, and consistently proven himself by developing top-end NHL talent.”   Taylor, 37, arrives in Saginaw with ten years of coaching experience in the Ontario Hockey League. BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Steelheads have announced the signing of forward Stepan Kuryachenkov, the club's 68th overall selection in the 2026 CHL Import Draft, to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. The 2008-born forward was originally selected 59th overall by the Swift Current Broncos (WHL) in the first round of the 2025 CHL Import Draft. Kuryachenkov, a 6-foot, 176-pound forward from Ufa, Russia, recorded 28 points (12-16–28) as a 16-year-old with the Swift Current Broncos last season. He has also represented Russia internationally at the U16 and U17 levels. Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond commented after Kuryachenkov’s signing. "We are excited to see Stepan in the Steelheads jersey this season. He is a very skilled player that can really push the offence. He’s hard to play against and will compete for all 200 feet of the ice."
