The Philadelphia Flyers have played (at least technically to some diehard skeptics) nine periods of hockey so far, and two overtime sessions. In those three games, they are 0-1-2, which, heading into Sunday’s slate of games around the league, good enough for a nine-way tie in the Eastern Conference. Most of the other teams with two points have played only two games, while some have only played once. And they probably didn’t truly deserve those two points they earned over the three games. Martone after Flyers' first two games: ‘I expect a lot more from myself' -
VOORHEES, N.J. — For all the hype around Porter Martone, this would probably qualify as a slow start.But it’s also just two games into an 84-game season. And the 19-year-old isn’t the only player on the roster who hasn’t played up to expectations. The Flyers are 0-1-1 and they’ve been outscored 10-2 and outshot 82-44.“I think just speaking for, not just me, but our group, not the start that we wanted,” Martone said Saturday after morning skate. “But for me, I expect a lot more from myself to contribute to this team and help this team win games. It obviously hasn’t been there the first two games. I think that’s a mindset of what I have to do to change my play, to just get back to kind of my bread and butter and just play to my identity.”Martone and the Flyers will try to get on track Saturday when they host the defending champion Hurricanes (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).
