Top Center Options, NHL Expanding in Houston and Atlanta? and Other Blackhawks Bullets -
Kalen Lumpkins at the Chicago Tribune made the cases for Anton Frondell and Frank Nazar to be the Blackhawks’ No. 1 center until Connor Bedard returns from injury. The one name I’ll throw into the mix that hasn’t been talked about or considered much outside of this space is Roman Kantserov. Remember: he played center primarily in Russia. There’s a chance he could see some action down the middle if he shows he’s more comfortable there early in camp. I’ll note again that Kantserov and Frondell are left-handed while Nazar and Bedard are right-handed. They could ultimately

We’re still in the midst of the hockey dog days of August, however, there were a smattering of interesting Florida Panthers tidbits on the interweb worth checking out. In The Athletic’s Ranking the best NHL players and prospects under 23 article, Cats forwards Sandis Vilmanis (ranked 133rd) and Simas Ignatavicius (ranked 138th) were placed in Tier 6 (Middle of the lineup player). Corey Pronman had this to say about Florida’s top two prospects: Vilmanis had a very positive season. He was quite good in the AHL and with Latvia’s senior team, and got extended time with Florida. He’s a fast, competitive winger who contributes at both ends of the ice. He’s not overly physical, but Vilmanis wins a lot of puck battles and always seems to be around the play. He has good hands, and while not overly creative, he can create chance

Five years. Five straight springs of watching someone else play meaningful hockey in April while the Flyers cleaned out their lockers early, while a fan base that used to define itself by playoff hockey learned to define itself by its absence instead. When the Chicago Blackhawks drafted an undersized, overage Andrew Shaw in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, there wasn’t a lot of thought about him becoming an important part of two Stanley Cup championship teams and a fan favorite. You usually don’t find those guys falling to the 139th overall selection. But Shaw became that guy, authoring some iconic moments that included a header and loving shin pads.
