IceDogs Remain Undefeated at Home with Victory Over Colts -By Kiera Schaafsma NIAGARA, ONT - The IceDogs clinched a win against the Barrie Colts in Saturday night’s game at the Meridian Centre. Things were heated from the beginning as these two teams met for the second time this season. Connor Haffner made his first home start a win, making 31 saves on 33 shots, earning him the second star of the night. Our newest IceDog, Joey Banas, recorded his first goal as an IceDog. In the first period, Banas’ goal was called off, but he made up for it in the second period when he beat Matvei Nikonovich on the power play, taking advantage of the rebound off Ryerson Edgar’s shot. Banas earned himself the third star of the game. Ryerson Edgar had himself a night, earning himself the first star of the game with one goal and two assists. Ivan Galiyanov is the longest-tenured member of the IceDogs and is set to suit up in his 200th regular-season game for the team tomorrow night at the Meridian Centre against the Ottawa 67s. He says that, being in his fourth season with Niagara, he's got an opportunity to prove himself as a leader to both his teammates and the new coaching staff. "I help out by giving advice to younger guys. I've been here for a while now, so I understand how the league works. I've got a lot of experience. I have playoff experience. Just helping out with the younger guys, [and] I help the coaches to get everyone more comfortable," says Galiyanov. NIAGARA, ONT. – The Niagara IceDogs are proud to be represented across the American Hockey League as eight IceDogs alumni have been named to opening night rosters for the 2026-27 AHL season. The AHL’s 91st season gets underway Friday, Oct. 2, with 32 teams set to play 72 games apiece. Eight games are on the schedule for opening night, marking the league’s earliest start to a season since 2009, before 30 games take place across opening weekend. Riley Patterson will begin the season with the Abbotsford Canucks (VAN) after a standout final season in Niagara. Patterson recorded a career-high 84 points (40G, 44A) last season. Selected by the Vancouver Canucks 125th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Patterson signed his entry-level contract with the organization in September 2025. The left winger is off to a hot start, already closing in on his entire point total from last season just four games into the new campaign. Smith says that production is the result of a big summer of work, as he stayed in Niagara to train during the offseason. Smith also made an immediate impact in the IceDogs' home opener, scoring twice and adding an assist in front of the Niagara crowd. He says he loves playing at home, and getting the chance to put on a show for the fans is always a good feeling. This season has also brought a new coaching staff and general manager to Niagara. Smith says the team has bought into head coach Jake Grimes' approach. Coaching Staff Assistant Coach Reijo Ruotsalainen has stepped away after three seasons with Flint. He has decided to return home to Finland to spend more time with his family. Drafted by the IceDogs in the fifth round, 95th overall, of the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Haffner created plenty of excitement during his first season as an IceDogs prospect. “Connor has worked at his game, and it showed throughout last season and training camp,” said IceDogs General Manager Dale DeGray. Haffner excelled with the Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), splitting time in the crease with veteran goaltender Carter Vicente. In 26 games with the Cougars, Haffner posted a 14-6-5 record, along with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. “For a 16-year-old in that league to have those stats in that many starts is outstanding,” said DeGray.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 220 pounds, the 2008-born defenceman brings size and skill to an already physical IceDogs defence corps. IceDogs General Manager Dale DeGray describes Kramer as “A big defenceman with a hard shot and good feet that maintains solid gap control.” DeGray also highlighted Kramer’s ability to defend with his stick and transition the puck. “I also really like how he uses his stick to keep defenders on the outside and can move the puck quickly,” said DeGray.
