The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is mourning the loss of former North Bay Centennials and Belleville Bulls forward Paul Rushforth, who died Friday at the age of 52. Rushforth skated three seasons in the OHL between 1991 and 1994, beginning his major junior career in North Bay before finishing with the Bulls in Belleville. He recorded 136 points (61-75—136) over 185 regular season games, highlighted by a 28-goal, 35-assist, 63-point campaign with the Bulls in his final season. He went on to enjoy a nine-year professional career. Following his playing days, Rushforth built a highly successful career in Ottawa as a real estate broker, becoming one of the region's most recognizable names in the industry. He was also a familiar voice to listeners across the capital as co-host of Newstalk 580 CFRA's Open House. The OHL extends its deepest condolences to the Rushforth family and to all who knew Paul. NORTH BAY, Ont. — Owen Loftus and Alexandre Saulnier of the North Bay Battalion are two of 31 Ontario Hockey League prospects invited to Canada’s under-17 development camp which opens Friday at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex at Oakville, Ont., Hockey Canada announced Tuesday.

Lappan was selected ninth overall in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, becoming the first defenceman and first American-born player chosen in this year's draft. "We were incredibly excited when Max was still available with our pick," said IceDogs General Manager Dale DeGray. "Every time our scouting staff met, we had him rated as one of the top two defencemen in the draft. We believe he's a player with tremendous upside and a bright future." NORTH BAY, ON. – The North Bay Battalion have announced the signing of forward Alexandre Saulnier to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.  Left shot Saulnier of the Ottawa Jr. 67's U16S was chosen 35th overall. A six-foot-two, 192-pound Ottawa resident, he had five goals and 19 assists for 24 points in 17 regular-season games and added 10 points, including six goals, in 12 playoff games. Saulnier turned 16 on April 16 after incurring a groin injury last season. “I think I bring a lot of energy, a guy who's hard to play against, who's in your face,” said Saulnier. “I think I bring a lot of physicality as a big guy.”

NORTH BAY, ON. – The North Bay Battalion have announced the signing of goaltender Owen Loftus to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.  The Battalion took Loftus of the Don Mills Flyers U16 AAA at No. 11 in the Priority Selection, held June 12-13 at Kingston’s Slush Puppie Place. In 50 games last season, Loftus posted a 2.00 goals-against average with nine shutouts and a record of 25-15-10. The Toronto resident, who's six-foot-one and 163 pounds, turned 16 on April 29. “I think the team's got a really good development plan for me,” said Loftus. “I'm obviously going to do my best, and ice time's not something that I know, right? It's something that'll just come from the work I do.
