Alex Weiermair hails from a long line of alpine skiers, but while the Los Angeles product had planned on barrelling headfirst into the world of slalom, super-g and slalom, the Los Angeles Kings were putting together a special run. After watching the Kings lift the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2012, a then-seven-year-old Weiermair became infatuated with the sport and idolized players like Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown. Two years later, he was off to the races and representing Team California at the historic Brick Invitational in Edmonton, Alta., where he played against the likes of Connor Bedard, Brayden Yager, Andrew Cristall and Riley Heidt.
