This in from the Edmonton Oilers, news that they are holding on to their top performing minor pro goalie Connor Ungar, 24, with a new one-year deal. “The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Connor Ungar to a one-year, two-way contract with an AAV of $850,000. Ungar (6’2”, 205 lbs, 24) divided his 2025-26 campaign among three ECHL clubs as well as the Oilers’ AHL affiliate in Bakersfield. The Calgary native who originally signed with Edmonton out of Brock University in 2024 began the season with the ECHL’s Greensboro Gargoyles… His consistent play in (the ECHL) resulted in a pair of call-ups to Bakersfield beginning in mid-December. Ultimately making 13 starts with the Condors, Ungar enjoyed a 9-2-2 record with a 2.51 GAA and .923 SV%. He earned his first AHL shutout in January with a 25-save performance versus the Ontario Reign and rang up wins in his first six starts with the Condors.”

The Buffalo Sabres have set the ball rolling on what could be a momentous summer for the franchise by trading away defenseman Michael Kesselring and their 27th-overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft to San Jose Sharks, and getting back the 20th-overall pick. The Sharks had obtained that pick from the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Jake Walman in March 2025. Kesselring only featured in 34 games with the Sabres with injuries limiting his playing time and utility for Buffalo. He was arguably the centerpiece of the trade that brought him and Josh Doan to Western New York from the Utah Mammoth, but was overshadowed in impact by the son of star defenseman Shane Doan. He had two assists and averaged 13:24 of ice time. The defenseman was at the end of his two-year extension that he had signed with Utah and was set to be an RFA this summer.
