Introduction Getting closer to the top players in the organization, we find a group that is neither on a track to play in the NHL nor appearing hopeless to do so. These prospects have generally performed better than those we just discussed as Long Shots, with a larger base of skills to work with. Three of the players are from the 2026 NHL Draft class, but there is an equal number of off-season additions for the Laval Rocket. In both cases, they are new players to the project, which tends to make it hard to place them above players we have a few years of experience with. Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Royals announced today that they have acquired 2007-born defenceman Jonas Kohn from the Regina Pats in exchange for a 2030 fifth round selection. Kohn, who hails from Stillwater, Minnesota, played 39 games for the Pats in the 2025-26 season, scoring four points in that time. Prior to joining the WHL, Kohn, who stands at 6-foot-4, 212 pounds, played for Stillwater High in Minnesota High School hockey, scoring 39 points (9G-30A) in 47 games over the course of two seasons. “Jonas brings an important element to our defensive group with his size and strength“ said Royals General Manager Jake Heisinger. “He is difficult to play against and is real steady in his own zone. Karsay, 18, was selected by the Pats in the third round (146th overall) of the 2026 CHL Import Draft. The 6-foot-1, 179-pound left winger from Ilava, Slovakia, split the 2025-26 season between HK Spartak Dubnica in Slovakia's second division and HK Dukla Trenčín U20. In 11 games with Trenčín's U20 club, the 2008-born forward registered seven points (four goals, three assists). Karsay was also ranked 63rd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft.
