2026 World U17 Hockey Challenge preview -Fourty-four CHL players head into Oakville with one goal in mind - to win gold at the World U17 Hockey Challenge. The 2026 edition of the tournament gets underway Sunday in Oakville, ON., where a pair of Canadian teams - Canada Red and Canada White - enter as favourites. They are joined by four international entries in Czechia, Finland, Sweden and USA. "It feels really cool and it is something I will alway remember for the rest of my life just putting the jersey on for the first time," said Kamloops Blazers and Canada Red d-man Mateo Ferreira. "I'm really looking forward to it and I think we have a great group so we're hoping to do some big things." A Canadian team has won the last three tournaments - Canada Red were victorious in 2025 while Canada White won the two iterations before that. The Hurricanes entered with a 6-7-0-0 record on the season and having won their last five road contests after opening their trip with a 4-3 overtime win in Red Deer against the Rebels last Saturday. Brandon pressed early in the game as they fired everything at Leif Oaten in the opening 20-minutes who was terrific in his tenth appearance of the season. Regina, Sask. — Two Regina Pats forwards will wear the ‘C’ for Canada at the 2026 U17 World Challenge, with Maddox Schultz named captain of Canada White and Liam Pue selected to captain Canada Red. The 16-year-old teammates return to the tournament after helping Canada White capture silver in 2025. This year, they will lead separate Canadian squads when competition begins Sunday, November 1. Schultz, a Regina product, recorded nine points (6G-3A) in five games at last year’s tournament as an underage player. He added another international medal this past August, helping Canada win gold at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup while tying for the tournament scoring lead with 10 points (3G-7A) in five games. The first-overall selection in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft has carried that success into the 2026-27 season, registering 14 points (4G-10A) in 10 games with the Pats. From Post Falls, Idaho, Nagle has played this season with the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL. In 12 games, Nagle has notched a goal and six points. Nagle (6’2, 174lbs) played last season with Okanagan Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep team, recording 10 goals and 43 points through 28 games. Nagle ranked second in team scoring. Regina, Sask. — Regina Pats forward Mathis Paull has been named to NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch List ahead of the 2027 NHL Draft, receiving a ‘C’ rating as a projected fourth- or fifth-round candidate. Paull, 17, is one of 54 WHL-developed players recognized on the list, which was unveiled Monday. The Vernon, B.C., product has recorded four points (2G-2A) in eight games with the Pats this season. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound left-shot forward is in his second season with Regina after tallying 13 points (7G-6A) in 55 games as a 16-year-old in 2025-26. His performance earned him the Nick Pappas Rookie of the Year Award as the Pats’ top rookie. Regina selected Paull in the third round, 48th overall, of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft. Samuel Karsay, Connor Bear and Maddox Schultz each recorded a goal and an assist, while Matt Paranych added two assists as the Pats improved to 5-4-0-1. Regina remained perfect on home ice at 4-0, having outscored its opponents 23-4 at the Brandt Centre this season. Tigers Fall To Royals 6-1 -Medicine Hat, AB - The Tigers welcomed a cross-conference opponent to Co-op Place for the first time this season as they took on the Victoria Royals on Saturday, October 10th. Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers have sent 2006-born forward Cam Parr to the Vancouver Giants in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2030. Parr, the 5-foot-10 left-winger from La Salle, Manitoba has played 233 games in the WHL. He was acquired via trade at the start of the 2025-26 campaign from the Spokane Chiefs after spending three seasons there. Parr's impact was immediate as his energy was hard to miss on the ice. In the first round of the 2026 playoffs, Parr scored the overtime winner in Game 5 to win the series against the Regina Pats. He has played 37 playoff games in his career, including a trip to the WHL Finals in 2025. The 20-year-old netminder made 29 saves against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Gardner spent three full seasons as a Blade after the organization drafted him in the third round (53rd overall) at the 202 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft. The Fort St. John, BC left his mark amongst in several major statistical categories in franchise history. Gardner's top ten all-time in franchise history in games played (126 - 7th), wins (69 - 5th), and shutouts (10 - 2nd). The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Ryan Oulahen (North Bay Battalion / OHL) will serve as head coach of Team CHL for the 2026 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Primaris, taking place December 1–2 in Chicoutimi and Québec City. The two-game series will bring together top 2027 NHL Draft prospects from the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) to face the U.S. National Under-18 Team.
