Rockets sign defenceman Dane Sorensen to WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement -
Kelowna, B.C. — The Kelowna Rockets have signed 2007-born defenceman Dane Sorensen to a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement. Earlier this offseason, the Rockets acquired Sorensen's rights from the Victoria Royals. Sorensen, 19, is a 6'1", 183-pound left-shot defenceman from Los Angeles, California. He spent the 2025-26 season split between the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL and the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL. In Sioux Falls, the blue-liner established himself as a physical presence, posting 91 penalty minutes in 41 games. After moving to Brooks, he recorded a goal and eight assists for nine points in 12 regular-season games before taking his play to another level in the postseason. Sorensen added a goal and four assists for five points and 32 penalty minutes in 13 playoff games, averaging close to 19 minutes a night during the Bandits' championship-clinching final series against the Nanaimo Clippers, helping Brooks claim the 2025-26 BCHL title. Grading the Montreal Canadiens’ 2026 NHL Draft class -
Gleb Pugachyov 26th overall | Chaika Nizhny Novgorod, W, 6’3″ 224 lbs.Grade: A I like that the Montreal Canadiens traded up and got a player they wanted and didn’t think would be there two picks later. This pick is addressing an organizational need: a big, physical player who can take up the reins from Josh Anderson down the line. When it comes to Gleb Pugachyov, there is a lot to like with him. What stands out to me is the fact that he isn’t a player that necessarily gets you to the playoffs, but he gets you through the playoffs — and he loves the playoffs. There is also the fact that he had a few KHL games this season. While the point total isn’t much (three in 13 games), the hit count certainly is; in the MHL he had close to two hits a game, but in the KHL he was close to three per game. It could be easy to hit against your peers especially with a size advantage, b

Royals’ 2026 NHL Draft Recap -

Getting to know Montreal Canadiens 57th overall pick Timofei Runtso -
The Montreal Canadiens seemed very keen on selecting Timofei Runtso, trading up four spots to select the defenceman. Runtso was in his second year of draft eligibility, having been passed over after playing in the NAHL in 2024-25, an environment he says wasn’t the best for him to show what he was capable of. Making the move to the WHL this season, his game hit a new level under brighter lights. He contributed 44 points for the Victoria Royals, and many of the scouts who watched him say that total should have been significantly higher. On a team with zero NHL-drafted prospects led with a point total of 56, Runtso’s 44 almost doubled the total of the next defenceman on the team, and he was one off the team lead in assists. Freshman Focus: Augustana -
Breaking down Augustana's incoming freshman class. 2026 Freshman Focus: Augustana University Matthew AuchinclossTue, June 23, 2026 at 11:01 p.m. UTC·4 min readAs the summer continues along, incoming recruiting classes are rested and ready for their first taste of collegiate action. We shift our focus to the freshmen entering their respective institutions this fall. All entry years are from College Hockey Inc and are subject to change. Players are listed alphabetically by last name. After so nearly making the NCAA Tournament last year, Augustana is reloading for another push. The loss of star goaltender Josh Kotai to the NHL’s New York Islanders is significant, but the Vikings return plenty of veterans and add some budding stars in a strong freshman class. Erick Comstock — Defenseman, Watertown Shamrocks (NAHL) Comstock will be one of the smallest defenders in the NCAA next season at only five-foot-six. That is likely why he’s going to college beginning at age 21 and has

Warriors, Winterhawks complete trade involving blueliner Griffin Darby -
Moose Jaw, Sask. - The Moose Jaw Warriors have acquired 17-year-old defenceman Griffin Darby (2008) from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a 2027 CHL Import Draft first-round pick, a 2027 fifth-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2028 sixth-round pick. “Adding Griffin gives us more depth on our blue line. Griffin makes a good first pass, plays a good two-way game, and can play against top players,” said General Manager Jason Ripplinger. “He will bring experience, character, and leadership to our dressing room.” Darby (6’0, 176lbs) was originally a first-round pick of the Winterhawks at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
